Confraternity of the Holy Rosary

This weekend we had the privilege of hav-ing Fr. Basil Cole speak on the power of the Rosary. We are starting a "Confraternity of the Rosary" chapter at Sacred Heart Parish.

October 7th is the Feast of the Holy Rosary. We have this feast day because in 1571, Pope Pius V asked the Confraternity of the Rosary to pray for the success of Christian forces during the Battle of Lepanto. The Christian forces were vastly out-numbered by the Turks. Weather and circumstances miracu-lously changed to favor the Christian forces and the Battle of Lepanto was won!

The Rosary Confraternity is a spiritual association (of the Cath-olic Church); the members of which strive to pray the entire Rosary during the course of each week. They form a union of hundreds of thousands of the faithful throughout the world who, along with their own intentions, include the intentions and needs of all its members, while they in turn pray for them.

What is the obligation? Members of the Confraternity make one single promise. Pray the Rosary three times a week while re-membering the intentions of all the members of the Confraterni-ty of the Most Holy Rosary….It takes about 20 minutes or so to say a rosary. Twenty minutes to praise God, to glorify God through His Son, and to glimpse the Son’s life through the eyes of His mother. It takes no special equipment, very little time and can be prayed by anyone, anywhere, any time. Yes, it is a hum-ble and powerful prayer.

On Monday there will be a conference on the Confraternity and all those who have not already filled out the membership cards that were in the bulletin this weekend will be able sign up and reap the spiritual benefits of the Confraternity. I would like at least 100 members after this weekend…Don't let our Lady down!

“Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the

world.” Pope Blessed Pius IX

In Christ, Fr. Larry
