EASTER SUNDAY

Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. It is celebrated on Sunday, and marks the end of Holy Week, the end of Lent, the last day of the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday), and is the beginning of the Easter season of the liturgical year. As we know from the Gospels, Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day following his crucifixion, which would be Sun-day. His resurrection marks the triumph of good over evil, sin and death. It is the singular event which proves that those who trust in God and accept Christ will be raised from the dead. We welcome to our Church family the following who became full members of the Catholic Church last night:

Keith Back, Daniel Beers, Susan Cecil, Daniel

Clemons, Melissa Layman, Rochelle Douglas,

The Significance of Easter and it's link to Divine Mercy

Happy Easter Sacred Heart! This is my third Easter with you as

my parish family…and today we celebrate the greatest day of the

entire Church year, EASTER. Why is the Resurrection of Jesus

so important? St. Paul says:

"“If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and

your faith is in vain."

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

The Resurrection above all constitutes the confirmation of all

Christ's works and teachings. All truths, even those most inacces-

sible to human reason, find their justification if Christ by his Res-

urrection has given the definitive proof of his divine authority,

which he had promised.

In simple words, the resurrection of Jesus is the Proof that God is

real and that everything that the Church teaches is real.

The catechism goes on to say:

The Paschal mystery has two aspects: by his death, Christ liber-

ates us from sin; by his Resurrection, he opens for us the way to

a new life. This new life is above all justification that reinstates us

in God's grace, "

On Good Friday we celebrated the sacrifice of Jesus life on the

Cross which freed us from sin, but the Resurrection gives us the

life of grace, to become Holy!

Every Sunday is a celebration of Christ's death and Resurrection,

and what a better way to celebrate this reality than by receiving a

plenary indulgence next week on Divine Mercy Sunday. The Sun-

day after Easter is called Divine Mercy Sunday. It was started by

John Paul II. Jesus appeared to a nun (St. Faustina), in Poland, in the early years of the 20th Century:

Jesus, when he appeared, requested this Feast of Mercy and desig-

nated that that the Sunday after Easter be a Feast of Mercy. He

promised to pour out a whole ocean of graces on that day. Jesus

promised the total forgiveness of sins and punishment for a soul

that would go to Confession and then receive Holy Communion.

The official Vatican explanation of the Feast of Mercy is as fol-

lows: According to Jesus, the Feast of Mercy is to be celebrated

on the first Sunday after Easter. Jesus is showing to us the close

connection between the Easter mystery of man's redemption and

this feast. The Feast of Mercy is to be not only a day designated

for the worship of God's mercy, but also a day of grace for all

people, particularly for sinners. Jesus attached great promises to

this feast. Next Sunday we will have Confession all throughout

the Masses and then we will have a Eucharistic Holy Hour from 2

-3 ending with the singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 and

Eucharistic Benediction at around 3:30. I hope many of you will

experience God mercy and love that come from the Lord's Resur-

rection! See you next week,

In Christ, Fr. Larry
