With several exci ng academic programs to choose from, a breathtaking

campus and na onally-recognized athle cs facili es, UCF off ers a college experience unlike any other.

And the men’s golf program has always helped to lead the way. Here’s the simple rundown of what the program has accomplished since 1979.

- In 31 seasons, the Knights have won the conference championship seven mes and made 14 NCAA tournament appearances.

- UCF par cipates in the most pres geous collegiate golf event in the country, the Isleworth Collegiate Invita onal in Windermere, Fla.

- The program annually hosts the Rio Pinar Invita onal and has won the tournament tle for three consecu ve years.

- UCF is home to one of the top training facilia es in the na on in the UCF Golf Prac ce Facility.

- The UCF Prac ce Facility features hi ng bays and a state-of-the-art video system to analyze each player’s swing, as well as a six-acre short-game area, plus a driving range.

Bryce WallorBryce Wallor was named UCF’s head coach on July 23, 2009. Less than one year later, Wallor had the Knights back in the postseason, compe ng at the NCAA Regionals in Santee, Calif.

Wallor’s fi rst campaign at UCF was clearly a success. His team, which featured several new contributors, came together at the right me, playing its best golf at the end of the

2009-10 season. The Knights won their home tournament in March, posted a domina ng performance in winning the Conference USA Championship tle and concluded the year with a strong showing at the NCAA Regionals.

UCF used a total team eff ort and hard work to achieve its success. Six diff erent Knights recorded top-10 fi nishes during the campaign and three diff erent golfers garnered individual accolades from C-USA for their play.

The hard work paid off for the team at its home event, the Rio Pinar Invita onal. UCF concluded the 18-team tournament in Orlando at 850 (-14), 19 strokes ahead of second-place Charlo e. Four Knights fi nished the event in the top-10 individually, led by Brad Schneider, who ed for second at 5-under 211. The fi eld included seven of the top-75 squads in the na on.

Two events later, Wallor’s team led from wire-to-wire at the C-USA Championship in nearby Sorrento. The Knights fi nished the event at 6-under 858, 18 shots ahead of Rice and Southern Miss, who ed for second place. With the tle, the Knights earned the league’s automa c bid to the NCAA Regionals. Three Knights – Schneider, Nuno Henriques and Connor Arendell – ed for second individually as four of the fi ve UCF golfers recorded top-10 fi nishes.

UCF fi nished the year with an impressive performance at the regionals. In its fourth-straight postseason appearance, the team fi nished sixth out of 13 squads in California. Devin Spies, who ed for 14th, and Schneider, who ed for 18th, posted top-20 showings.

Both Henriques and Schneider were named to the All-C-USA Second Team following the league championship. Reid Mar n was also recognized by the conference when he earned all-freshman team honors.

Wallor took over the helm of the UCF program a er fi ve successful seasons as an assistant

Head Coach - Second Season with the Knightscoach at Tennessee. During his me with the Volunteers, Wallor helped the program make fi ve trips to the NCAA Regionals, with the squad advancing to the NCAA Championship on three occasions. In 2009, the Vols placed second at the NCAA Northeast Regional and then fi nished 12th at the NCAA Championship.

In July 2008, Wallor was promoted to Tennessee’s director of instruc on/player development by head coach Jim Kelson. Tennessee claimed eight tournament championships during Wallor’s tenure, including the Southeastern Conference tle in 2007. In 2008-09, the Vols recorded fi ve

top-three fi nishes. The team concluded the year ranked 11th in the Golfstat NCAA Head-to-Head Standings. A pair of Tennessee golfers – David Holmes and Chris Paisley – earned PING All-America honors. Wallor mentored fi ve All-America golfers at Tennessee.

A er the 2007-08 campaign, he was selected as a fi nalist for the Jan Strickland Award, which is presented to the top assistant coach in the na on by the Golf Coaches Associa on of America. In 2009, Wallor was a semifi nalist for the award.

From 2000-02, Wallor served as the head coach at Connec cut, where he helped the Huskies improve 47 spots in the na onal polls. He also worked as an assistant coach at Davidson from 1999-00.

Before star ng his coaching career, Wallor was the director of golf instruc on at the Narraganse Country Club in Narraganse , R.I., and the Highland Ridge Golf Center in Mansfi eld, Conn. Addi onally, he served as the teaching professional at the Dana Radar Golf Ins tute in Charlo e, N.C., and as an assistant professional at the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando. Wallor also spent me as a sales representa ve for the Golfers’ Warehouse in Cranston, R.I.

Wallor was a student-athlete at Rhode Island from 1993-98, helping the Rams qualify for the NCAA East Regionals four mes. He was team captain as a senior and took medalist honors at the 1997 Bob Toski Invita onal. Wallor, who worked as a volunteer assistant coach at Rhode Island in 2002-03, graduated with a bachelor’s of arts in communica ons in 1998.

A er concluding his collegiate career, Wallor won the 2002 Rhode Island State Open and competed on the 2003 New England Professional Golf Tour.

2009-10 Season Highlights

• Knights claimed the tle at the Conference USA Championship, recieving an automa c bid to the NCAA Regionals.

• The Knights won their third-consecu ve tle at their home event, the Rio Pinar Invita onal.

• Five Knights earned Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll Status.

• Two Knights - Nuno Henriques and Brad Schneider - were named to the All-Conference USA Second Team.

• Reid Mar n was selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.


Toby RaglandA er joining the UCF staff as an assistant coach in August 2009, Toby Ragland helped the Knights achieve immediate success. The Knights peaked at the right me during the 2009-10 campaign, claiming the Conference USA Championship tle and earning a spot in the NCAA Regionals.

Ragland mentored two All-C-USA Second Team performers – Nuno Henriques and Brad Schneider. He also worked with Reid Mar n, who was recognized by the conference when he earned all-freshman team honors.

Ragland joined head coach Bryce Wallor in Orlando a er concluding an impressive collegiate career at Florida. Ragland par cipated in three NCAA Championships while with the Gators.

As a senior in 2008-09, Ragland ed for the team lead with 32 rounds played. He recorded a pair of top-fi ve fi nishes. The Jacksonville na ve helped Florida advance to the NCAA Championships by tying for third at the NCAA Southwest Regional.

During the year, he took medalist honors at the Gator Invita onal. A er the victory, he earned Golfweek Player of the Week honors and was also recognized as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week. Ragland also ed for third at the Golden Ocala Collegiate as a senior.

While in Gainesville, Ragland competed in 41 tournaments. He posted a 73.74 career stroke average and had 37 rounds of even or under par.

Assistant Coach - Second Season with the Knights

Ragland posted top two-10 performances as a junior. He competed in seven events and boasted a 73.35 stroke average.

His sophomore campaign was capped by a strong performance at the NCAA Championships. He ed for 29th at the event. In 2006-07, Ragland

recorded two top-20 showings, highlighted by a e for 11th at the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate.

Ragland played in 11 tournaments as a freshman. He began his collegiate career in style, tying for second at the Gary Koch Invita onal to begin the season. The performance was one of four top-20 fi nishes for the rookie.

Ragland earned his bachelor’s degree in community health educa on. As a senior, he earned All-America Scholar recogni on from the Golf Coaches Associa on of America. He was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll three mes during his career.

On the amateur circuit, Ragland had some strong showings during his college career. He fi nished 14th at the 2007 Players Amateur and earned a spot as a second alternate for the U.S. Open regional qualifying that same year. In 2004, he qualifi ed for the U.S. Amateur Championship.

Ragland starred on the prep level for Bartram High School in Jacksonville. In 2003, he won the Florida Class 2A state tle.

1979-80Sunshine State Conference ChampionsGerry Gergley started the men’s golf program and the squad won the inaugural Sunshine State Conference tournament tle. Wes Fisher, Doug Snoap and Brad Estes were named to the Sunshine State All-Conference Team. Estes and Snoap ed for 47th as individuals at the NCAA Championship.

1980-81Sunshine State Conference ChampionsUnder the direc on of Wayne Mendel, the team won the Sunshine State Conference tle for the second- consecu ve year. Brad Estes earned medalist honors. Estes, Joe Foguth and Doug Snoap were named to the Sunshine State All-Conference Team. Estes and Snoap ed for 72nd at the NCAA Championship.

1981-82John DiMarco and Brad Estes were named to the Sunshine State All-Conference Tournament Team.

1982-83Joe Foguth led the UCF charge and earned medalist honors when the Knights won the team tle at the Ha er Challenge in DeBary.

1983-84Division II NCAA ChampionshipJohn Reeves won Sunshine State Conference tournament medalist honors and was named to the all-conference team. In its fi nal year in Division II, the team made its fi rst trip to the NCAA Championship and placed sixth. Joe Regner fi nished 11th in the individual standings.

1984-85In its fi rst year in Division I, UCF registered one win on the season at the Embry-Riddle Intercollegiate in Daytona Beach.

1985-86John Weiss won two tournaments during the year - the Florida State Intercollegiate Championships in Tallahassee and the UCF Invita onal in Orlando.

UCF Golf History1986-87UCF won its own tournament when it claimed top honors at the UCF Spring Classic in Orlando.

1987-88In 1987-88, UCF won the Florida State Intercollegiate Championship for the fi rst me, while Joe Regner won two tournaments and Andrew Rice won one. Regner claimed the Pepsi-Budweiser USF Classic in Tampa and the UCF Golf Classic. Rice was victorious at the Florida Fun-N-Sun Intercollegiate in Miami.

1988-89NCAA East RegionalUnder the direc on of Dale Wilson, UCF won once and fi nished in the top fi ve nine mes in 10 events en route to its fi rst Division I appearance in the NCAA Regional. The team advanced to the east regional in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA Championship.

1989-90NCAA East RegionalNCAA ChampionshipThe Knights won six tournaments, including fi ve straight, and advanced to the NCAA East Regional for the second-consecu ve season. Ul mately, UCF advanced past the NCAA East Regional and into the NCAA Championship, where it fi nished 21st. The team peaked at No. 6 in the na onal rankings and was voted the na on’s most improved team. Malcolm Joseph ed for 49th at the NCAA Championship. Andrew Rice was named a GCAA All-American Scholar and Cliff Kresge was named a second-team All-American.

1990-91NCAA East RegionalNCAA ChampionshipMike Shumaker became the fi h coach of the golf program, taking over for an ailing Dale Wilson. UCF won three tournaments and advanced to the NCAA Championship for the second year in a row and fi nished 12th. Andrew Rice won one tournament and was named a second team All-American along with Malcolm Joseph. Rice was also named a GCAA All-American Scholar.

1991-92NCAA East RegionalNCAA ChampionshipUnder second-year coach Mike Shumaker, the UCF tradi on of success con nued with a third trip to the NCAA Championship and 15th-place fi nish. Hans Strom-Olsen picked up three wins on the year and was named second-team All-American. Robert Damron won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and earned honorable-men on All-America honors. He was runner-up in ballo ng for na onal freshman of the year honors.

1992-93The Knights won the Florida State Intercollegiate Championship tle for the fourth me in six years. Robert Damron took fi rst at the pres gious John Hancock All-America Classic, an invita on-only event for top collegians, and qualifi ed along with Hans Strom-Olsen for the NCAA East Regional as individual par cipants. Damron earned honorable-men on All-America honors for a second me.

1993-94NCAA East RegionalThe Knights claimed two tournament tles and qualifi ed for the NCAA East Regional. Robert Damron earned All-Atlan c Sun honors and was named an honorable men on All-America for the third consecu ve year. Following the season, Damron

announced he would forego his senior year in order to turn pro. The campaign marked UCF’s fi rst year as a member of the A-Sun.

1994-95Atlan c Sun ChampionsNCAA East RegionalA new trophy was added to the case as UCF won the Atlan c Sun Championship for the fi rst me, earning a spot in the NCAA East Regional. Jason Opal and Trey Sones earned All-Atlan c Sun honors and Mike Shumaker won A-Sun Coach of the Year honors.

1995-96Atlan c Sun ChampionsNCAA East RegionalUCF won its second Atlan c Sun Championship and Jason Opal garnered medalist honors. Opal, Eric Tuscan and Jeff Brunell earned All-A-Sun honors. Mike Shumaker was named A-Sun Coach of the Year for the second-consecu ve year.

1996-97Kipp Minter became the sixth coach in UCF men’s golf history and led the Knights to two tournament wins. Jason Opal, Jeff Brunell and Simon Sainz earned All-Atlan c Sun honors.

1997-98Jeff McPherson won the tournament tle at the Ron Smith Invita onal in Tampa.

1998-99Adam Hayes and Kris an Svalheim earned second-team All-Atlan c Sun honors. Hayes ed the school record of 65 for lowest 18 holes by matching the mark at the Na on’s Bank Gator Invita onal in Gainesville. The Knights recorded top-10 fi nishes in six of the 11 events that they competed in.

1999-00Brian Craig was named the seventh coach in program history. Despite a rocky start, UCF ba led back with a strong showing in the spring and fi nished fourth at the Atlan c Sun Championship.

UCF Golf HistoryAtlan c Sun Championship. Freshman Andy Hollis was named the conference freshman of the year, while teammates Jordan Dempsey and Kevin Kahle also garnered all-freshman team honors.

2001-02Nick Clinard was named the eighth coach in UCF history. Under the leadership of Clinard, UCF fi nished fourth in the Atlan c Sun Championship. Freshman Andreas Hoegberg had an outstanding season and was named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team. Ben Osbrach earned GCAA All-America Scholar honors.

2002-03Freshman Stefan Wistorf captured medalist honors to become just the third player in school history to win the conference tle. Wistorf’s three-day total of 203 was the lowest three-round total in Atlan c Sun history. UCF fi nished third as a team at the conference championship and Wistorf was named to the A-Sun First Team. Fellow freshman Sonny Nimkhum was named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team.

2003-04Atlan c Sun ChampionsNCAA West RegionalA return to NCAA postseason play for the fi rst me since 1996 was the reward for two wins and seven top-three fi nishes in 13 events. UCF earned a spot in the NCAA West Regional and narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA Finals. UCF picked up wins at the Birkdale Collegiate Classic and the Atlan c Sun Conference Championship. Individually, Barry Roof was named the A-Sun’s Golfer of the Year and earned all-southeast region honors as well. Nick Clinard was named the A-Sun Coach of the Year. He also had the dis nc on of signing the highest-rated recrui ng class in the country in 2004 according to the Na onal Junior Golf Scoreboard.

2004-05NCAA East RegionalA strong year on the course culminated in a second- consecu ve trip to an NCAA Regional for the Knights. UCF picked up one win on the year when it claimed the top spot on its home course at the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate. Senior Andreas Hoegberg made it a clean sweep when he won a playoff to capture medalist honors. Hoegberg earned fi rst-team all-conference honors in the Atlan c Sun, was named a GCAA All-America Scholar and also earned all-southeast region honors. Hoegberg was not the only player to have a successful year in the classroom as every member of the team earned A-Sun Academic All-Conference honors. Ben Leong and Giwon Suh were named to the A-Sun’s All-Freshman Team. In the fall, the Knights hosted the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invita onal at the Isleworth Country Club in nearby Windermere for the fi rst me. Sixteen squads competed in the three-day tournament.

2005-06UCF posted a strong spring campaign during the 2005-06 season. Head coach Nick Clinard’s squad fi nished the fall season ranked 79th by Golfstat and charged all the way to 48th by the end of the spring season, which culminated with a runner-up fi nish at the Conference USA Championship. Sonny Nimkhum did not qualify for any events in the fall, but wound up leading the team with a 72.95 stroke average by season’s end and qualifi ed as an individual for the NCAA East Regional, which was held at Lake Nona in Orlando. Newcomers Kyle Davis (74.6) and Greg Forest (74.96) had strong rookie campaigns and earned spots on the C-USA All-Freshman Team. The season served as the Knights fi rst campaign in the conference. In the fall, the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invita onal fi eld expanded to 18 teams.

2006-07NCAA East RegionalA strong fall campaign helped the Knights receive an at-large bid to the NCAA East Regional. UCF opened the year with three impressive performances. A er compe ng against Japanese and American college squads at the Topy Cup in Japan in early September, the Knights fi nished fourth at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate and third at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. As a result of its strong start, the team moved to No. 24 in Golfstat’s na onal rankings on Oct. 11. In the spring, UCF fi nished fourth at both the John Hayt Collegiate Invita onal and the Hoo e at Bulls Bay. Following the Conference USA Championship, Nuno Henriques earned a spot on the league’s all-freshman squad. The Knights were invited to the NCAA East Regional in Alphare a, Ga., and fi nished 13th out of 27 squads. UCF concluded the year ranked 39th in the Golfstat poll. Following the season, Giwon Suh was selected as a GCAA All-America Scholar.

2007-08NCAA West RegionalThe Knights spent the majority of the campaign in the top 25 of the na onal rankings. The squad entered the top 25 in late October and rose to 17th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and 19th in the Golfstat rankings in February. UCF won a pair of events - the Rio Pinar Invita onal in Orlando (February) and the UK Bluegrass Invita onal in Lexington, Ky. (April). Greg Forest and Mike Stern shared medalist honors at the Rio Pinar Invita onal. David Johnson was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and was joined on the all-conference fi rst team by Forest. Four Knights earned C-USA Player of the Week honors during the campaign. UCF received an invita on to the NCAA West Regional in Alphare a, Ga., and earned the ninth seed in Bremerton, Wash.

2008-09Conference USA ChampionsNCAA ChampionshipThe Knights cemented one of the most impressive seasons in school history when they took the tle at the NCAA Regional in Sorrento, Fla. The team fi nished at 18-under 818, 11 shots ahead of top-ranked Georgia, Arizona and South Carolina, who ed for

second. The Knights ed for 10th out of 30 squads at the NCAA Championship in Toledo, Ohio. The showing was the best in school history. The Knights claimed the crown at the Conference USA Championship where Simon Ward earned medalist honors. For the second-consecu ve season, the Knights claimed the Rio Pinar Invita onal tle. The team also fi nished fi rst at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate in North Carolina. The Knights fi nished in the top-fi ve in nine of its 13 tournaments during the year. UCF spent nearly the en re season ranked in the top-25 na onally. The squad concluded the year ranked 15th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Blayne Barber was selected as the C-USA Golfer and Freshman of the Year. He also earned a spot on the PING All-America Second Team. Nick Clinard was named the C-USA Coach of the Year.

2009-10Conference USA ChampionsNCAA Regional Championship

During head coach Bryce Wallor’s fi rst season with the Knights, UCF claimed the Conference USA tle in Sorrento, Fla., and received the league’s automa c bid to the NCAA Regionals. The Knights fi nished the 11-team conference event at 6-under 858, 18 shots ahead of Rice and Southern Miss. who ed for second. Junior Nuno Henriques and sophomore Brad Schneider both ed for second individually pos ng a 214 (-2). The Knights earned the No. 6 seed at the NCAA Regionals in Santee, Calif., and fi nished sixth out of 13 squads in the tournament. The squad claimed the program’s third-consecu ve tle at their home event, the Rio Pinar Invita onal in Orlando at 850 (-14), 19 strokes ahead of second-place Charlo e. Four Knights fi nished the Rio Pinar in the top-10 individually. Henriques and Schneider were named to the All-C-USA Second Team, and Reid Mar n was a conference all-freshman team selec on.

UCF Tournament Victories


UCF PRACTICE FACILITYMembers of the UCF men’s golf team have the opportunity to enhance their games close to campus at the UCF Prac ce Facility. Located at the Twin Rivers Golf Club in nearby Oviedo, the facility was opened to the Knights in 2007.

Construc on on the 2,880-square foot teaching building at the loca on concluded in 2009. The building features hi ng bays and a state-of-the-art video system to analyze each player’s swing. Also, the structure houses a player’s lounge, locker room and offi ces for the UCF coaching staff .

The facility is used exclusively by the men’s and women’s golf programs.

The prac ce facility includes a six-acre short-game area, in addi on to a driving range. The short-game area has a pair of pu ng greens and target greens. The area was designed and constructed by McCumber Golf, which was founded by former PGA TOUR player Mark McCumber. Construc on began in March 2007. Twin Rivers is managed by The Golf Group, an Orlando-based company that operates six courses in the area.


WHERE THE KNIGHTS PLAYThe UCF men’s golf team u lizes several courses in the Orlando area for prac ce and playing. Head coach Bryce Wallor’s Knights have access to some of the top country clubs in the region. UCF has memberships at the Rio Pinar Country Club, North Shore Golf Club, Stonybrook East Golf Club and the Twin Rives Golf Club, giving the Knights unlimited access to the courses. Twin Rivers is the home to the UCF Prac ce Facility, which opened in September 2007.

The Knights also enjoy playing privileges at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club and the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club. Lake Nona is the home of some of the world’s top golfers, including Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Annika Sorenstam.

The site of the annual Isleworth Collegiate Invita onal, the Isleworth Country Club is one of the fi nest courses in the country. The Knights have access to play at Isleworth several mes per year. The country club is the home of some of the best players in the world, including Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara and Stuart Appleby.

The Rio Pinar Country Club is the primary home course for the Knights. The course previously served as the site for the PGA TOUR’s Citrus Open. The country club is the home of the Rio Pinar Invita onal. Isleworth
