Good Fishing This Year It seemed this year that our tournament dates worked out pretty well as far as fishing action was concerned. Both tournaments produced many catches and lots of action. I think all fishermen at least had a good time. The tournaments are still down as far as numbers go but thanks to all who participated and keep our tournaments going. To everyone else we hope things get better and you are able to fish again in the future. On March 20, 2010 we held the walleye tournament on the Illinois River at Spring Valley. It seems every year we are down to the wire as far as weather goes. This year was no exception. We enjoyed taking off in wind, rain, SNOW, and sleet. Good news, it lasted most of the day. Although the weather was challenging the fish didn’t seem to mind. Many fish were weighed-in and many short fish were let go. Congratulations to Bob Horvath from local # 272 and Mike Thomas from local # 434 for winning the tournament. They caught a limit of 6 fish that weighed 13.81 lbs. Bob Horvath also caught the big fish that weighed 3.61 lbs. The bass tournament was held on September 25, 2010 at Lake Shelbyville. This time the weather was perfect. The fishing was good and again many fish were weighed-in and many short fish were put back. There was action reported by many participants. It seems we are fishing at a good time in the fall and many are learning the lake. It is always fun at takeoff watching everyone leave. I’m sure many enjoy it as much as I do. It was good to see a couple of “experienced” carpenters win this year. I always like to have as many different people winning, it makes it more fun and interesting. John Hardaugh from local # 174 and Larry Landers from local # 916 won with 4 fish weighing 10.76 lbs. John Hardaugh also caught the big fish weighing 6.51 lbs. It was really awesome because his fish beat out the second place fish which was 6.28 lbs. caught by Dennis Price. What a pair of bass! I have sent out information on our new website, www.carpentersfishing.org to everyone. Check it out and let me know of any suggestions you might have. All of the tournament results and information will be on the web. Starting next tournament I will also put the boat positions on the web so you can view your takeoff positions. I am also asking for your help at the Rosemont sportsman’s show in January 2011. We are in need of volunteers to help kids build toolboxes and help the Boy Scouts build some duck houses. If you are available for a few hours to help please contact me at 847-640-7373 for more information. Hope to see you on the water. Volunteers Needed!

The tournaments are in need of volunteers to help with many areas. It takes a lot of time to run the tournaments and volunteers are needed to help with check-in and misc. activities. If you helped in the past I thank you and ask for your continued support but we need new volunteers to also aid in the many tasks. The future will depend on you getting involved with helping the tournaments. Without you there is no tournament.
