“ When I looked at opportunities for career advancement as a manager, it became clear that an MBA would be essential. Georgia Tech’s overall technology orientation provided an excellent backdrop for my needs. I gained the skills to assess issues holistically. My education has helped me understand company acquisitions, make business decisions, and provide critical analysis of potential actions.”

Communication Skills

According to The Wall Street Journal, 98 percent of CEOs put communication skills at the top of the list as a necessary ingredient for business success. The development of interpersonal skills through personal interaction in group projects and small classes is as much a part of the MBA experience as the academic course work.

All Georgia Tech MBA students are required to complete a core course focused on developing written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Electives (24 hours)

Business problems seldom have narrow boundaries, and they affect many areas of an enterprise. In turn, solutions often require the teamwork of cross-functional groups from information technology and marketing to finance and operations. Once you master the basics of the functional areas of business, your studies will emphasize collaboration and cross-disciplinary perspectives.

You will choose 24 hours of graduate management electives (eight courses) related to your career goals, including one international elective. Electives may be taken in any combination of areas to meet your professional and personal goals.

The electives you select may be interdisciplinary rather than segmented along traditional departmental lines. For example, you could build a concentration completely within one area, or select multiple areas within the College of Management.

One of the many benefits of Georgia Tech’s MBA program is flexibility. We encourage you to think creatively to devise a program of study that will best meet your long-term professional goals. Graduate Office staff are happy to advise you in developing your own unique concentration.

iMPACT Speaker Series

Now in its ninth year, the weekly IMPACT Speaker Series continues to live up to its name, bringing a heavy-hitting lineup of notable business executives, high-tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and intellectual leaders to the College. The series is increasingly popular as a learning and networking opportunity for Georgia Tech students, alumni, and members of the Atlanta business community.

Trading Floor

Wall Street now intersects with Technology Square, where the College of Management’s high-tech, $1 million trading floor prepares students for careers in investment banking and financial services. Featuring 54 dual-display computers as well as electronic stock information on the walls, the 2,000 square-foot trading floor is equipped to train students to use the financial analysis and electronic trading tools used by professional brokerage firms.

Georgia Tech’s institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship

Georgia Tech’s Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (ILE), housed in the College of Management, helps students develop leadership, initiative, influence, and other “soft” skills that employers say MBAs need to improve upon.

ILE bridges units across Georgia Tech to enhance the options available to those who wish to better prepare for the challenges of leadership in a complex, global market. MBAs have the opportunity to study the latest leadership research and form their own perspectives on what makes an effective leader. ILE also builds into the MBA curriculum such topics as values-based leadership, social entrepreneurship, and global leadership for change and uncertainty.

SOME NOTABLE IMPACT SPEAKERS FEATURED IN RECENT YEARS INCLUDE:

• Warren Buffett, chairman and CEo, Berkshire hathaway

• Al Gore, 45th vice president of the United States

• Thomas L. Friedman, columnist for The New York Times and best-selling author, The World Is Flat

• Bernie Marcus, founder of The home Depot

• Jack Welch, former chairman and CEo, General Electric

Financial Analysis Lab

Since 2002, the Financial Analysis Lab has published numerous financial reports and attracted hundreds of online subscribers for its unbiased stock market research studies. Often, the published reports are covered by major financial publications, including The Wall Street Journal, CFO, BusinessWeek, and Forbes. Subscribers include such money management firms as Fidelity Investments and Morgan Stanley, hedge funds, commercial banks, and financial journalists. Students also find the Lab’s work to be a valuable educational resource.

Town hall Meetings

Through Town Hall meetings, MBA students have a venue to make suggestions or ask questions related to any area of the MBA program. This open-forum style meeting allows College of Management administrators and MBA student officers to regularly interact and discuss ongoing topics.

Global Consultancy Project

This semester-long elective course is designed to give students both industry and international consulting experience. Students are assigned projects for international companies at the start of the course. During spring break, students travel overseas to meet with these companies. Previous classes have visited Costa Rica, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, and Singapore. The countries vary from year to year.

Graduate Evening Management Students

As a Georgia Tech MBA student, you are automatically a lifetime member of Graduate Evening Management Students (GEMS). Through networking opportunities, professional clubs, and social events, GEMS offers a variety of leadership roles and avenues for you to be involved with fellow Evening and Full-time MBA students, College faculty and administrators, and the business community. You are encouraged to get involved in several aspects of GEMS, because opportunities outside of the classroom are just as important to getting the total MBA experience as academics.
