GreetinGs:
As Governor of Texas, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 132nd General Conference of the National Guard Association of the United States.
The fine men and women who make up the National Guard are a credit to our state and our nation, working hard and making major sacrifices in the effort to promote freedom and security the world over. I salute and thank all of the brave veterans here today.
Whether they are serving at home or abroad, it is our duty as Americans to provide the members of the National Guard with the equipment, training and personnel benefits necessary for individual and collective success. This is where NGAUS comes into play. You are in tune with the issues affecting the National Guard, bringing the stories and concerns of its members directly to Congress. By serving these patriots and their families, you are serving this great nation. My fellow Texans join me in commending your hard work and dedication.
To those from out of town, I welcome you to Austin. From world-class entertainment to our historic Capitol, there is much to discover. I invite you to explore and enjoy everything this city has to offer.
First Lady Anita Perry joins me in wishing you all a wonderful event.
Sincerely,
Rick Perry Governor of Texas
to Texas

to my fellow nGAUs members:
On behalf of the men and women of the Texas National Guard, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Austin and the great state of Texas!
As the saying goes, everything is bigger and better in Texas, and we hope to show you some of the reasons why during your stay here. In addition to an outstanding agenda for the conference, we are going to provide some special state “touches” to your experience. The Governor’s Reception will include an authentic rodeo, followed by a concert by local country music star Rick Trevino, recently back from a trip to Iraq, where he entertained our troops, including several National Guard units. This year we are introducing Spouse Adventures to four exciting destinations, including San Antonio and Fredericksburg. Hospitality Night will include several local venues rented out by states. Finally, the States Dinner will be Texas Formal (read cowboy casual) and be followed by a “NGAUS City Limits” show.
And you can’t beat Austin as a destination. As “The Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin boasts hundreds of live music venues each night, and you will no doubt discover why “Sixth Street” has such a reputation. Austin is home to the Texas Capitol (yep, you can see it’s just a few inches taller than that one in Washington), and home to the University of Texas (Longhorns, of course). Test the running path along “Lady Bird Lake,” try one of our many excellent restaurants, join the “bat watch” crowd on the Congress Avenue bridge, or just relax at one of the many piano bars and listen to cool jazz or country singers — enjoy creating a unique Austin and NGAUS experience!
