We've made significant progress in the past year! Changinfocus from Pilot/Mechanic to Pilot/IT (Informational Technology)definitely a step in the right direction. Both Eric and I feel a peace excitement about the change.

This past year Eric's taken some IT courses at PCC and fllittle more for Servant Wings to help build his flight hours. He neahas enough high performance flight hours and has all the requiredings completed. This January he's starting a database course to fursharpen his IT skills. When we get closer to April, he'll do a flightview course with Servant Wings to make sure he's ready for the Mtechnical evaluation.

Our MAF technical evaluation is April 18-29, 2011. Durithis time, Eric will spend a week being evaluated on his flying abi

After that they will talk with him about his current IT skills. Meanwhile, Kristine and Jenna will be meeting with MAF staff and getknow them. MAF will evaluate both of us to determine whether wready and able to serve with their organization.

If they deem we are ready, they will invite us to the July candidacy at their headquarters in Nampa, Idaho. There we will beevaluated further, they will introduce us to areas of need and pray us about placement overseas in one of their programs.

While we are at MAF for our technical evaluation, we patransportation costs, food costs, flight costs (a week worth of flyinCessna 206), and other expenses. MAF provides a place for us to swhile we are there. The total cost for this trip should be close to $2

Around $1800 of that is for the flight part alone! Eric's prep courseServant Wings that he needs to complete before the tech eval also around $1500-2000 in flight time. That makes our goal close to $4

If youd like to partner with us in prayer or through finato help meet our goal by April, please read the, How to Join withMinistry section on the back of this newsletter.

Dear Family and Friends,Its been a while since our last newsletter and much has hap-

pened! This year were going to change the format of our newslettersso we can share with you our hearts and help give you an idea of howwe hope to serve with MAF in the future. Since our switch in focusfrom Pilot/Mechanic to Pilot/IT, many of you have asked what does aPilot/IT person do?

The IT specialist is a sort of "Jack of all trades" in that therole looks different wherever you go depending on the needs of theMAF location. Many IT specialists help maintain internet connec-tivity, update e-mail systems, establish satellite internet and phonecommunications, maintain power supply sources, troubleshoot com-puter problems, install upgrades, link missionary computers to radiosfor e-mail..etc. IT specialists are key to helping missionaries be ableto communicate not only with each other, but with family and friendsback home. This has drastically changed communication from yester-year when all you could do is write letters or phone home from a ma-or city.

This month wed like to highlight

an MAF couple that is currentlyserving in Papua, Indonesia . Theirnames are Brent and MelaniePalmer. They live there with theirthree children. Brent serves as anIT specialist and a pilot (amongother things) and Melanie is aTeacher. Theyve served withMAF for around 12 years.

Through his IT work, Brent has tutored several IT interns, oversaw short term IT staff, upgraded e-mail systems and imple-mented two satellite internet connections. As a pilot hes logged manyhours flying people and supplies in and out of the jungle. Most re-

cently he had the opportunity to fly in a missionary couple to a remotepeople group called the Bayono. They are one of the last unreachedtribes in the world! The couple he flew in hopes to encourage andequip two local evangelists. They eventually hope to translate the bi-ble into the Bayonos native language. Amazing! He flew them backto town to gather supplies and will take them back to the villagewhen they are ready.

Brent was also privileged to do most of the flying for a biblededication ceremony in the village of Koropun. A missionary couplespent 15 years translating the New Testament into the villages nativelanguage of Kimyal and Brent flew in the completed copies of theNew Testament! There was much cheering into the village becausenow they had a version of the bible in their own language! Brent was

honored at the ceremony because he played a vital role by being apilot for the translators. Without MAF, this would have been muchharder for the translators.

This is just a snapshot of the daily work this MAF mission-ary couple does. As you can see, this specialized ministry is vitallyimportant because it helps facilitate ministry in so many differentplaces! This year has been a very blessed year in the Reedhousehold. Kristine was able to teach history and math for acouple of months (January-March) at Stayton Christian Schooland loved it. She also had the opportunity (March-June) to tutorow income middle school students (primarily of Russian back-ground) in math through the Sylvan Learning Center.

Eric was able to complete a few more IT (InformationalTechnology) courses through Portland Community College andhe really enjoyed them. He finally got the Hiperbipe's annualnspection completed in June (thanks to a dear friend/flight me-chanic) and flew it a few times since then.

We'd love to introduce you to the newest member of our family. Her name is Jenna-vieve Elizabeth Reedand she was born Sep-

tember 12, 2010 at7:55am. She weighed7lbs 10 oz and was 21inches long. Parent-hood has been quitethe transition for us, butwe feel so blessed tohave little Jenna in ourlives. She's almost fourmonths old. She smilesand coos all the time. She has pretty goodhead control, but not

much arm strength so she can't hold herself up yet. Jennaoves to be held facing out so she can see the world and tries towalk wherever she can with our help. She's very adventurousand independent, which should serve her well on the missionfield with us!

We would love to talk with you about our passion for Christ and how we hope to utilize our love of aviation to serveHim in the future. You can contact us via e-mail at: [email protected] or by telephone at 503-949-1714.

This summer we helped at a few events through Servant WingsWe helped at a Common Ground event in Vancouvers Esther Shpark and Eric flew people at the Clark County All Church Picnic in172 and 206 airplanes. Eric really enjoys taking new people up to and giving them a real experience in a small aircraft.

Servant Wings has now moved! It is now based at the Aurora Aport. They have a larger hangar that includes an office space and abathroom. We are really blessed to know the men and women of thorganization. Theyve helped us a lot with guidance and wisdom aour journey to becoming missionary aviators.
