    ResponsibilitiesThe City of Calgary invites applications for a highly-motivated communications generalist to fill the role ofCommunications Advisor, supporting the Calgary Fire Department Leadership as well as operationalareas. This is an intermediate level position offering the opportunity to provide a broad range of strategicand tactical communications services while working collaboratively with peers within the department and

    across the corporation. Reporting to the Manager, Public Affairs your primary duties are to:

    Develop, implement and evaluate strategic communication and marketing plans and tactics tosupport the objectives, services and projects of internal clients , primarily the Community SafetyTeam.Write, edit and produce a variety of external and internal communications tools, including Fuelnewsletter, intranet and website content, speeches and news releases.Develop and implement an internal communications/employee relations plan and administer thedigital display strategy including content management.Support CFD Capital Project communication needs, including fire station ground breaking andopening events and internal/external stakeholder engagement.Support various CFD Divisions through strategic communication plans and tactics to support theirobjectives, services and project needs.Coordinate production of communications collateral with Creative Services - and internal designstudio for clients.Support the Communications Strategist with event and issues related matters.Other duties as assigned.

    QualificationsThe successful applicant must possess a diploma (equivalent to two years full time study) or degree inCommunications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business or related field with a minimum of five years ofprogressive communications experience. Applicants must possess an intermediate proficiency level withMicrosoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Preference will be given to candidates with

    accreditation and/or membership in one of more of the following: APR (Accredited Public Relations), ABC(Accredited Business Communicator), CAAP (Communications and Advertising Accredited Professional)and CCPP (Certified Campaign Planning Program) designations and IABC (International Association ofBusiness Communicators) and CPRS (Canadian Public Relations Society) memberships.Applicant must be highly strategic, creative, organized, independent, politically sensitive and able toconsult with staff at all levels in the organization. Must also have excellent judgment and interpersonalskills and have experiences in communication planning, strategic planning, project management, businesspractices, public and media relations, stakeholder/employee relations and media relations.
