Doug Fisher, Vice President, Software and Services Group | General Manager, Systems Software Division

Computing is entering into a new era where mobile device growth and user expectations will drive fundamental changes to all areas within the computing and software ecosystem. These changing patterns will require new and innovative solutions across the entire compute continuum, from the server clouds and data centers to notebooks, netbooks and tablets to mobile phones, automotive infotainment and connected ‘smart signs’. The consistent theme across all of these usage models will be the always connected and secure, and computing everywhere with richer and richer user experiences. Intel’s® vision for the compute continuum is tightly integrated with the growing availability of wireless broadband connectivity.

To meet the needs of these different use models and device types, multiple operating systems and multiple operating system types will be required and Intel’s goal is to make sure they all run best on Intel Architecture. To further meet the needs of cross device computing usage, Intel is partnering with the Linux Foundation to provide an Open Source OS designed from the bottom -up to meet the demands of this new era of computing, and that OS is MeeGo. In a new era of computing where everything computes and everything is connected, success will be defined by how well we in the ecosystem meet user needs across the entire compute continuum.
