    SUMMER APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS The types of financial assistance available for the summer term are limited compared to the fall and spring terms.Additionally, amounts for some types of assistance available for the summer will depend upon your annual and aggregatelevels. Please keep in mind that the majority of funding available for the summer term will be LOANS. When processing yofinancial aid application, the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) will indicate on your Financial Aid Award Notification allaid for which you are eligible. You will need to indicate which awards you would like to accept or decline. You must thenreturn the signed Financial Aid Award Notification to OSFA by the appropriate deadlines.

    Below are more-detailed instructions regarding required documentation, deadlines, degree status, enrollment status andtypes of assistance as they pertain to the summer 2010 term.

    Required Documentation The 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file in the OSFA by June 30, 2010 to be

    considered for financial assistance for the summer 2010 term. UICs federal school code is 001776. Note: In somesituations a 2010-11 FAFSA must be on file in the OSFA to be considered for summer assistance.

    If you are selected for Verification, you will receive notification from the OSFA indicating the additional documentatiothat must be submitted before your financial aid file is reviewed and processed.

    You must also submit this Summer 2010 Financial Aid Application to the OSFA. Keep the Instructions.

    Degree StatusIn order to be eligible for financial assistance, you must be a degree seeking student at UIC. If you are not a degree seekingstudent, you may be eligible for a private loan. If you are interested in such a loan, please review the list of privatelenders/loans via the following link: http://www.finaid.org/loans/privatestudentloans.phtml. Approval of private loans is at thediscretion of the lender, not UIC.

    Enrollment StatusIn order to be eligible to receive loan assistance, you must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours if you are an undergraduateor professional student. Graduate students must be enrolled for at least 5 credit hours. If you are eligible to receive aFederal Pell Grant and have not used all your eligibility in the Fall09/Spring10 terms, you may be eligible to receive a FederaPell Grant if you are enrolled for at least 3 credit hours. NOTE: If you register for fewer hours than you report to us on yourSummer Application, it may result in a reduction or cancellation of awards.

    Types of AssistanceThe most common types of assistance available during the summer term are the following: Federal Pell Grant, IllinoisVeteran Grant, Illinois National Guard Grant, Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Perkins Loan and Federal PLUS loan. If you areligible for the Illinois National Guard Grant and/or Illinois Veterans Grant, please make sure to indicate on the application ifyou wish or do not wish to use either of these programs for the summer term. If you do plan to use either of the programs fothe summer term, a copy of your ISAC eligibility letter must be on file in OSFA.
