OUR MISSION...

North Shore Academy of the Arts, Inc. (NSAA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to offering high caliber opportunities in the performing, visual and liter-ary arts to all ages. It is designed to encourage, inspire and promote creativity while fostering a cultural appreciation of the arts in our communities. NSAA promotes a sense of self worth, responsibility, and strength of character while providing individ-uals and families the means to recognize and develop talents, interests, assets, and aspirations. Beyond the arts, NSAA strives to build healthy communities through the development of positive values and a commitment that will be evident across

2011 Annual Report

It’s been an exciting transition into our second decade of programming for the community. 2011 marked one of our grand new developments, the opening of the Arts Mill, as well as other enhancements that have strengthened how our organization can service Southeastern Wisconsin through the arts.Over the past several months I have been in the midst of research on the arts and creativity. Some of the information I’ve read involves studies of the role the arts play in brain development. These findings support the value of the arts.

But NSAA’s measurement of the value of the arts comes mostly from our own research; from experi-ences in the programming and events we offer. The kids on stage, and in front of a canvas and the dancers and the sculptors. Through our programming, self-confidence builds. Skills are honed. Interests nurtured. Folks who are working with us have a safe place to express themselves, developing their creativity, and sharing their talents with others. This expression of beauty can be shared in a myriad of ways, and while it may be through song or a painting or a poem, it can be expressed in everyday ways, as well. Those who spend time within the walls of NSAA are constantly reminded of the value of the arts. It is why our vision, our passion, our intent…doesn’t waiver.

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman and Poet, Dana Gioia said these words at the 2007 Com-mencement Address at Stanford University:“Art is an irreplaceable way of understanding and expressing the world. There are some truths about life that can be expressed only as stories, or songs, or images. Art delights, instructs, consoles. It educates our emotions.”

The Arts.Research says it’s a good thing. Thanks to everyone for your part in keeping the arts alive…through realizing its value, by supporting our organization, and for experiencing art every day in your own way.We look forward to our continued partnership in serving the community.
