10 TIPS ON TREE CARE
1 Keep tree in a cool, shady
place like the garage until ready to bring indoors.
2 Saw 1/4 inch off bottom of trunk prior to placing the tree in stand.
3 Make a cut perpendicular to the axis of the stem, not at angles or a v-shaped cut.
4 Make sure to place tree in water-holding stand immedi-ately after making cut.
5 Stand must be able to hold enough water for the size of the tree.
6 Use warm water for the first fill of the stand.
7 Maintain an adequate water level always. Check water level every day.
8 Check water levels twice per day in the first few days. A tree will absorb the most water after it is recently cut and placed in water.
9 Make sure tree is displayed away from heat sources. Al-ways check electrical devices like lights and other decora-tions before placing on the tree.
10 Avoid spraying preservatives or fire retardants on tree. Some of these products actually in-crease moisture loss. The most fire-retardant tree is one that is properly watered.

PROPER CARE FOR YOUR REAL CHRISTMAS TREE/TREES
FRESHNESS - Test the needles to be sure they are firmly at-tached; then bend a couple of them to be sure they are pliable and not dry.
PROPER SIZE - HEIGHT & WIDTH - A Christmas Tree should be sized to the ceiling height. Take into consideration the stand at the bottom and the ornament on top. Also, be guided by the amount of floor space available.
TREE FULLNESS - Some like a very heavy, full tree. Others prefer a lighter tree with space between branches for easier decorat-ing. Heavy decorations require stiffer branches.
STORING - Keep the tree away from wind and sun with the butt submerged in water until you're ready to bring it into the home.
TREE STAND - Good safety practices & true enjoyment depends on a modern stand that holds a minimum of one gallon of water or more for large trees.
ALWAYS MAKE A FRESH CUT - Your tree is a living product & requires water the same as cut flowers. Before bringing the tree inside, make a fresh cut off the butt (bottom of trunk) about an inch long (this removes the portion that has been clogged by the tree sap healing over the cut.)
INITIAL WATER - Be sure to use very warm water as the initial supply to enhance the tree's water circulation. Cold tap water may be used thereafter.
HEAT SOURCES - Be sure to place the tree away from all heat sources such as, hot air vents, fireplaces, stoves, or direct sunlight.
LIGHTS - Use only UL approved lights. Never overload your electric circuits. Never use or burn candles or any other flame-type decorations. (Miniature lights are very good because they stay cool, do not dry out the needles, and draw fewer amps.)
WATER - Be sure to check the water supply regularly. A fresh tree may absorb a gallon of water the first 24 hours, and then a pint or more daily thereafter. Never allow the water to get below the cut end of the trunk!
SIGNAGESigns are your number one priority. Good signs draw more customers to
your location than any other means of promotion. Keep the message simple. Use the words “Real Christmas Trees” and spell it out. Never use “Xmas Trees.” Place the most important words at the top of the sign using larger size letters. Don’t show prices on signs along the road. A high price will scare customers away; a low price gives them the impression you are selling poor quality trees. Be aware of local law regulations on placing signs on the roadside. Check the law in your community. Make arrangements with the owners before placing signs on private property. Offer a tree as payment, or some other service.

WE MUST GIVE CREDIT TO THE TRADITION OF CHRISTMAS AND THE REAL CHRISTMAS TREE!
For instance, in 1996, 17,000 acres of traditional Christmas Trees were grown in New York State. They removed at least 2,125 tons of carbon & released approximately 5,740 tons of oxygen. That is a huge benefit from just one agricultural crop, and a good reason to use a farm-grown real live Christmas Tree each year! Studies show that one acre of 8-12 year old Christmas Trees produce nearly 1/2 ton of new bio-mass each year. This removes nearly 500 pounds of carbon (CO2) from the atmosphere. This freshens the air with about 1,000 pounds of oxygen.
OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS:
When chipped (recycled), the real tree can be burned as fuel, used as mulch, or composted, thus being used as a renewable resource of energy, stabilizing the soil to prevent erosion, or producing new soil & nutrients.
Christmas Trees & limbs are used to provide fish habitat in ponds and used on beaches to control erosion. Farm fields of traditional Christmas Trees provide habitat for birds and wild animals.
For the traditional holidays, branches are used for Wreaths, Swags and beautiful fragrant Centerpieces.
Many New York Christmas Tree Farmers provide a traditional family outing by visiting the tree farm to harvest their own real tree & enjoying the fresh air & wildlife.
