Homecoming 2011 -REUNIONROUND-UP (con’t.)
Though the class of 1961 has scattered from coast to coast and even outside the Lower48, 56 of us along with spouses and friends gathered during Homecoming weekend tocelebrate our 50th reunion. We had such a fine time, the twelve classmates who came totheir first reunion this year said they were sorry they had waited so long. The idea weshould meet again in five years instead of our customary ten was cheered.
Our reunion committee, wrangled by our chair Don Thompson, spent months huntingdown classmates and nailing details for two nights on the town, an important float forthe parade and a farewell brunch.
A cocktail party at Chessie's Friday was the opening event. We tried to read the names on badges discreetly when we did not recognizethose older faces we had not seen for years, if not decades. The letters were not big enough, but as the night wore on, we became class-mates again. By Saturday night at the MilRose we had caught up with old friends and found out a lot about classmates we had barelyknown in at school. The emcees, Bruce Condill and John Davis, cracked jokes and called up old mysteries like the lamentable deaths ofMrs. Baker's plants from a chemical fog. The weekend ended with brunch at Chessie's.
Lots of us were up for the big parade on Saturday morning which included Chinese lion dancers, Mexican dancers and our stellar float. Our float, a glittering red car with 1959 Cadillac-inspired fins, upheld our class tradition of winning competitions. (We won three ofour four years at BHS.) We took first place in the alumni division with the help of community supporters, classmates and some BHSextended family. Jim Voris, let us screw our panels to his wagon which he pulled in the parade. Tom Douglas got his friend Mike Cres-well to cut the panels in his cabinet shop, and Tom lent his shop and his expertise for the construction. His friend Randy lent his treas-ured Cadillac side mirrors. Sherry Cruttenden Boemmel's son-in-law Matt painted the front end and rear end panels and her daughterBetsey wielded a mean screwdriver. Maxine (McClure) and Allan Cress helped with construction.
Some of us also toured BHS, went to the game and lunched at the Alumni Club tailgate party with BHS grads from other years. Somecrashed other reunion celebrations to dance and party with other classes.
Our essential reunion committee included Nancy Ahrbeck Suria, Penny Brown Myers, Barbara Buehlman Day, Bruce Condill, SherryBoemmel, John Davis, Tom Douglas, Kathy Gayer Cassidy, Chris Grigsby Murata, Glenn Homuth, Barb Lipofsky Marsh, MaxineCress, Sally Novy Price, Donna Reber Moore and Don Thompson.
We continue to hunt our classmates because we miss everyone we could not find. We want them and their e mail addresses, becausewe '61's have joined the electronic age. We want to keep in touch with all our classmates.
Meanwhile the committee has agreed to meet every year until our next reunion. A move is afoot to start a classmates' lunch group rightaway. And the idea of an informal gathering in two years is being explored. Bruce Condill has invited us to his Great Pumpkin Patchdownstate in Arthur.

Saturday morning, about 12 people met at thetrain station and decorated our Class of '66 floatto participate in the Homecoming parade. Thehomecoming theme was "Welcome to the Jun-gle" and we embraced that concept by wearinganimal themed T-shirts and sitting under apalm tree on the float. Facebook, Twitter, PayPal…after 25 years, it was social networks for these Social Animals! These gradscame from all over the Midwest as well as all four corners of the Lower 48 to spend the weekend catchingup with people who some hadn’t seen for over two decades. Homecoming was off and running with a cas-ual gathering at RSVP’s 2 on Friday night. Outside may have been chilly despite the bonfire, but the re-ception was warm.
The next morning roughly two dozen class members—some with spouses and children in tow—met at thetrain station to prepare the float and sport their matching shirts (Thanks, Clarice!) as they joined the paradeon what turned out to be a fantastic morning. After the parade people had a chance to tour the high school, show their families around, attend the football game, enjoy a little down time at Chessie’s alumni tent, andget ready for the official gathering that night.
Saturday’s evening festivities took place downstairs at Chessie’s. Approximately 80 members of the Classof 1986 were in attendance. There was plenty of food, an almost embarrassing amount of 80’s hit music(Thanks, Inderjeet and Pam!), and an 8-foot banner (Thanks, Rob!) featuring everyone’s senior photo-graphs. (Oh! The hair!) Most importantly, there were hours full of laughter and memories, sharing picturesand stories, and getting to know what we have all been up to.
Kudos go to reunion organizer Caryn Rasnick and all the members of her committee: Clarice (Accardo)Michael, Bonnie (Campbell) Olsen, Jen (Duffie) Adams, Sue (Eckl) Kinney, Cely Escobar, Vicki (Gantter)Czernick, Elizabeth Georgescu, Kelli Pinnello, Inderjeet Sidhu, Sue (Vigor) Baumgartner, and Rob Wilt-gen. Their efforts are sure to mean that those who made it for the 25th are already planning to be there forthe 30th!

Class of 1991 20th Reunion
The class of 1991 enjoyed an entertaining 20 year reunion, with festivities taking placethroughout the 2011 BHS Homecoming weekend! On Friday night, over 150 alumni andspouses gathered at The Onion Pub in Lake Barrington. Everyone enjoyed the delicioushours d’overs, open bar, and DJ. While many alumni were engaged in catching up withformer classmates, one could find copies of yearbooks, Round Up newspapers, and avideo displaying photos sent in by numerous alumni to reminisce and remember the goodtimes at Barrington High School. In remembrance of our classmates who had passedaway, we dedicated a table to honor the memory of these missed members of our graduat-ing class.
While some alumni attended the annual Andy Anderson pancake breakfast Saturdaymorning, others gathered at the train station parking lot for the Homecoming parade.Chris Parisi generously donated a vehicle for the parade, where a handful of alumni andtheir families rode along and threw out candy to spectators along the parade route. DougAnderson was the star of the parade, as he jumped off the float, sprinted to Jewel, pur-chased additional candy for the children when their supply was depleted, and rejoined thegroup just in time to finish out the parade route through downtown Barrington! Specialthanks to Rochelle (Lenz) Colella for coordinating the float. Many alumni then attendedthe football game, and were delighted to witness the Broncos’ solid victory over the Hoff-man Estates Hawks.
Saturday evening closed out the weekend festivities and brought over 45 alumni to 111Grille, for a more casual night of appetizers and drinks. Members of the 1991 Reunionplanning committee: Kaia (Van Damm) Kraus, Denise (Guth) Keller, Kerry Ellis, ChrisTrimble, Brian Lunt, Stacy (Yamaguchi) Kraft, and Jennifer (Naggatz) Beers should becommended for their efforts in making the 20th reunion such a successful and memorableevent!
