2011 INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT

In 1971 AJ Spiegel worked 120-hours per work week and traveled more than 100,000 miles in a year. His intent was to promote his new pressure washer with unabashed enthusiasm, participating in trade shows and exhibitions throughout the country. “It was important to me to personally present my product – no matter where I had to go to do it,” he exclaimed.

Raised on a farm near Peosta, Iowa just down the road from today’s modern 850,000 square foot campus that is home to the Mi-T-M Corporation, Spiegel was never a stranger to hard work. “We knew what work was seven days a week,” he said. “We knew we had to be there 14 times a week to milk the cows. From an early age work ethic was very prominent in my life.”

During his days as a painting contractor Spiegel sold truck-mounted 10,000 PSI water blasters. These units inspired him to develop something more portable and practical for contractors. His very first pressure washer, the Mighty-1000 was the culmination of Spiegel’s ideas on what the industry needed - a compact, portable, 1000 PSI pressure washer. It was the first self-contained, gas-powered pressure washer on the market.

Spiegel came up with the name for his company, Mi-T-M, as a response to the “mini-craze” of the 1970s. “Everything was mini,” he said. “That image was the opposite of what I wanted for my company. My company was destined to be ‘Mighty’.” So Spiegel used that description and the Roman numeral “M” for 1000 PSI, the power of his very first pressure washer model, for the Mi-T-M name.

In 1972 Spiegel was building and selling his first model to local farmers and paint contractors, but it was the success at trade shows that really spiked sales. “It was a hit. We had all sorts of requests for that machine.” he said, so in 1973 Spiegel began to focus solely on his growing pressure washer manufacturing company. In 1978 the company had eight employees and in 1982 that number doubled. Two years later it doubled again. Today, Mi-T-M employs well over 300 talented and dedicated people.

Like the growth of the organization Mi-T-M’s product line also expanded. Mi-T-M now manufactures over 130 different models of pressure washers from gasoline and diesel powered to electric; from belt drive to direct drive; and from cold water to hot water. In 1998 water reclaim systems were added to the product mix, followed by air compressors and industrial wet and dry vacuums in 1999. Always looking to diversify, in the last decade Mi-T-M began manufacturing industrial generators, the multipurpose air compressor/generator combination, jobsite boxes and most recently portable heaters.

When Spiegel was a professional painting contractor, he experienced poor customer service. “I now understand the value of good quality service. The most important thing is service; everything else is secondary.” From the day that very first pressure washer was built in 1971, AJ Spiegel worked hard to maintain a reputation for manufacturing high quality products and stands behind them like no one else in the industry. That same philosophy is what drives Mi-T-M today.

It’s hard to imagine the little company that first introduced the Mighty-1000 PSI pressure washer is celebrating its 40th year in business. If there is one thing I’ve learned after 40 years of manufacturing quality equipment, it is to live up to and surpass your customer’s expectations. This is the goal I set for myself 40 years ago and it is our goal at Mi-T-M today.

Change is constant. In 1971 the Mi-T-M Corporation had one employee, today we have well over 300 people who work for you, our customer. We’ve made many changes over the years and most can be attributed to satisfying the needs of our customers. Manufacturing processes have been revolutionized. Efficiency is more vital today than ever. Not only have we been willing to change, it is what has sustained us over the years.

One thing that will not change is that you can expect nothing less than 100% dedicated customer service from us, including speaking with a person and not a machine when you contact Mi-T-M. We know that our success is dependent on your success and we will never let you down.

I’d like to share a story about a customer who purchased a pressure washer from us over 20 years ago. The pressure washer is still running today and because of that we know we have a loyal customer for life. Whether we sell one machine to this customer or 100, we build them to last. That is our success story and I am proud to be part of it.

The machine that started it all. In 1971 AJ Spiegel built a compact, portable, 1000 PSI cold water pressure washer, the first self-contained, gas-powered pressure washer on the market. It was known as the "Mighty-1000."

Within a few years, models with a higher PSI and greater cleaning power were introduced by Mi-T-M. The 1604 PSI model was built for the "weekender" for jobs around the house, a 2400 PSI model for fast paint removal and a 3500 PSI model to remove mud and grease build-up.

In the 1980s the "industrial-grade" CW Series pressure washers with 1500 to 4000 PSI of power were introduced along with the Mi-T-Hot Series, the first hot water pressure washers manufactured by Mi-T-M.

Advanced technology of the late 1990s brought many changes to the pressure industry. Mi-T-M focused on pressure washers to suit professionals who demanded top performance and extended run times. Mi-T-M hot water pressure washers featured whole system diagnostic boards, patented EMF ignition systems and top fired combustion chambers.

Today, Mi-T-M manufactures pressure washers in an 850,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility located in Peosta, Iowa. For 2011 the Mi-T-M pressure washer product line includes over 130 models from hand carry and portable to stationary, direct drive and belt drive, electric, gasoline, diesel and natural gas.

Hot Water Designs

In 1999, Mi-T-M Corporation received the patent for a unique ignition/firing system, Electro Magnetic Firing (EMF), which produces enough voltage for operation and proper burning of the HSP Series of hot water pressure washers.

This system is designed with two sets of magnets that are used to produce electricity. The first set of magnets produces a low voltage of about 12 to 14 volts when passed by a coil known as a stator. This voltage is required for operation of the on/off switch, pressure and high limit switch, and the fuel solenoid.

The second set of magnets passes by an ignition coil which produces a high voltage in the tens of thousands of volts. The spark is generated across the electrode gap and is enough to create proper ignition of either #1 diesel, #2 diesel or kerosene.

The long lasting, non-corrosive flexible drive coupler protects EMF system if fuel pump locks up.4. Fan provides burner air for proper combustion and clean exhaust smoke. It has an easily accessible air flow control.7. Ignition coil provides voltage to electrodes for proper spark voltage, allowing accurate ignition of fuel every time the trigger is pulled. The ignition coil has a long life, is easily replaced and has a proven track record in the industry.

Mi-T-M began manufacturing portable air compressors in 1999 as an extension of the existing industrial and contractor-grade equipment. Sixteen models were first introduced ranging from small electric hand carry 4-gallon models to gasoline models with a 20-gallon capacity. Mi-T-M introduced the combination air compressor/generator series in 2007 as a compliment to the alreadyestablished air compressor and generator product lines.This unique tool has been popular with contractors who appreciate the efficiency of one piece of equipment doing the work of two. The original models featured generators ranging from 1800 watts to 3500 watts with an 8-gallon air compressor on board. In 2010, 30-gallon models were added featuring a 4000 watt generator.


Run your air tools and electric power tools off one convenient machine with the Mi-T-M air compressor/ generator combination. Now your shop air compressor can also act as a backup power source during

times of power failure. The 8-gallon model with the industrial 1800 or 3500-watt generator comes in a portable version to take this versatile tool wherever the job takes you.

Best Pump Warranty In The IndustryThe Mi-T-M Pump Exchange Program provides pump replacement for the Mi-T-M customer for the warranty period of two years from the date of purchase. If the air compressor pump fails due to a manufacturing defect during the two year warranty period, Mi-T-M will replace the pump at no charge. The air compressor should be returned to the Mi-T-M authorized dealer where it was purchased. The dealer will remove the pump and replace it with another single or two stage Mi-T-M pump at no charge. The Pump Exchange Program is not transferable and covers all pump problems with the exception of abuse or lack of basic general maintenance as stated in the owners manual and warranty statement.

Important Steps to an Air System Setup1. Main-line filter and regulator should be installed at least 20-feet from the compressor. The air will cool down, allowing much of the water vapor to condense naturally for removal by filtration.

2. All line-drops (workstations) should be taken from the top of the main line. This prevents water from flowing into branch lines.

3. Galvanized pipe is recommended when building an air system.

Finding the Right Generator


To select an engine-driven generator, you'll need to determine the power (kilowatt) requirements which must be met under operating conditions.

Undersizing the generator can be avoided by considering all of the loads that will be connected to the generator, and by determining the starting requirements (motor start) of electric motor-operated devices.

Be sure the generator you select is large enough to handle your present requirements and anticipated needs.

To determine the right size generator, add up the total watts of all lights, appliances, tools or other equipment to be connected to the generator.

Check the nameplates to determine wattage. If wattage is not shown, by amps and volts are given, the following simplified formula may be used:Amps x Volts = Watts(Ex. 12.5 Amps x 120 Volts = 1,500 Watts

To determine kilowatts (kW), use the following formula:1000 Watts = 1 Kilowatt(Ex. 1500 Watts/1000 Watts = 1.5 kW)

Charts 1, 2 and 3 will help you in selecting the proper size generator. With lights, heaters and small appliances, simply add the nameplate ratings or see Chart 1 for average wattage requirements. For portable electric tools and equipment, check the nameplate rating or use Chart 2 for average requirements. If watts and/or amps are not given and only the horsepower is shown, use Chart 3 to determine the starting and running watts.

Chart 4 is furnished as a guide for selecting the proper size of insulated copper wire when extension cables are used. We recommend the use of outdoor-rated (UL) cable, recognized type SJTW-A.

Can Mi-T-M heaters be used indoors?Fuel burning portable heaters are intended to be used in a well ventilated area. Please refer to your operator’s manual for the fresh air requirements.

How do I size a portable heater?The most important factor when sizing a portable heater is the amount of space you have to heat. A general rule of thumb is that you can heat approximately 25 square feet for every 1000 BTUs a heater puts out.

What type of heater is better, one that runs on Fuel Oil or LP?All of the approved fuels for Mi-T-M portable heaters have great energy value and one doesn’t stand out over another. Your application and the fuel that you have available are going to determine which fuel to use.

What types of fuels are approved for Oil Fired Mi-T-M portable geaters?The approved fuels are: No. 1 and No. 2 fuel oilNo. 1 and No. 2 diesel fuelJP8/Jet A fuel

Do all portable heaters require electricity?Mi-T-M portable heaters that have a blower motor or a fuel pump will require electricity to power them. All Kerosene forced air, LP & Natural Gas forced air and radiant heaters require electricity. The convection, outdoor patio heater and the tank top heaters do not require electricity.

Mi-T-M Corporation's pressure washers have received certification from CETA under the CETA Performance Certification Standard. This standard clearly defines performance criteria and test procedures for certification of hot and cold water pressure washers. CETA certification guarantees the buyer that products are designed, built and tested to rigid performance standards. Machines must operate within +/-5% of advertised performance rating. Data for all Performance Certified models are on file at CETA headquarters, and periodic peer reviews ensure constant quality.

The International Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code establishes rules of safety governing the design, fabrication and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels, and nuclear power plant components during construction. In the formulation of its rules and in the establishment of maximum design and operating pressures, the Committee considers technological advances including materials, construction, methods of fabrication, inspection, certification and overpressure protection.

Mi-T-M assumes no responsibility and makes no guarantees regarding air freight deliveries. Please allow seven working days before requesting tracking on lost or late shipments. In an effort to deliver Mi-T-M products to our customers in a timely manner, Mi-T-M developed a program where whole goods (pressure washers, air compressors, air compressor/generators, portable generators, portable heaters, jobsite boxes and wet/dry vacuums) and parts are shipped from separate locations in our facility. Our freight policy has not changed. Our customers are still responsible for outgoing freight on parts and whole goods. This may be altered by any minimum qualifying freight programs. Because our goal is to process all orders as soon as we receive them, our system will no longer allow additional items to be added to a previously processed order. Any additional orders will be handled as a new order.

Freight Terms- All water treatment systems and parts – F.O.B. WarrantyAll warranty claims and returns of goods for repair shall be governed by the express terms of the Mi-T-M warranty, as provided in the conditions of our warranty, and limited to the replacement of defective parts, as provided in the conditions of the Mi-T-M warranty. Merchandise ReturnMi-T-M must be contacted before any product can be returned. The customer will receive a Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) number prior to the item being returned. Mi-T-M reserves the right to refuse returned product. Products must be in new and resalable condition. Products must be current production components. All products must be returned freight prepaid at shippers expense. Products returned C.O.D. for any reason will be refused. Credit not to exceed original purchase price will be issued on returned products approved for return subject to a 20% restocking fee.

Submission of ClaimsAll damages to merchandise – either internal or external – must be reported to the carrier shipping such merchandise, to permit an inspection report to be filed immediately. Claims of shortage of cartons, crates or boxes must be properly submitted to the carrier; claims for errors or shortages of contents must be submitted to Mi-T-M within 24 hours after delivery of such merchandise.
