JOHNSON COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW AND

YOUTH FAIR

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

NOTICE: All exhibitors, parents, sponsors, youth leaders, Agriculture Science Teachers

(A.S.T.), Family Consumer Teachers (F.C.E.T.), and other interested parties are

cautioned to carefully read and understand the following Rules and Regulations, as

they will be enforced.

1. The JOHNSON COUNTY LIVESTOCK AND AGRICULTURE ASSOCIATION, INC.,

superintendents, and/or Board of Directors reserves the final and absolute right to

interpret these Rules and Regulations and to arbitrarily settle and determine all

matters, questions, and differences in regard thereto or otherwise arising out of, in

connection with, or incident to, the JOHNSON COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK

SHOW AND YOUTH FAIR.

2. In no case shall the JOHNSON COUNTY LIVESTOCK AND AGRICULTURE

ASSOCIATION, INC., nor any of the show superintendents and officials, be held

responsible for any loss, injury, death, or disability from disease, or from any cause,

to any person or property while said persons or property is on the show grounds.

3. The superintendents and management reserve the right to refuse to accept for

exhibit any inferior entry and to remove from the show grounds any entry that may

be falsely entered or may be deemed unsuitable or objectionable. Any animal

showing definite symptoms of disease or parasite infections will be banned from the

show and ordered removed from the grounds by the respective division

superintendent in accordance with rules and regulations of the Texas Animal Health

Commission.

4. Participation in the JOHNSON COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW AND

YOUTH FAIR is limited to students who are at least eight (8) years old and 3rd grade (at

date of show ) through grade 12 in high school, and who are members of 4-H; FFA

including Junior FFA; or Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA),

within Johnson County, Texas and either reside in or attend school (public, private, or

home) in Johnson County, Texas.

5. Exhibitor and Entry Eligibility

a. Agriculture Science Teachers, County Extension Agents, and Family

Consumer Economics Teachers desiring to enter exhibitors in the Junior

Livestock Show and Youth Fair must sign a certificate on the Entry Form that

the exhibitor is a member in good standing and the project was under his or

her supervision and prepared for show by the entrant in accordance with the

rules of the JOHNSON COUNTY LIVESTOCK AND AGRICULTURE

ASSOCIATION, INC.

b. All livestock exhibitors must be a member in good standing of FFA, FCCLA,

and /or 4-H by December 1 to be eligible to show that year, with the

exception of poultry and rabbits.

c. All 4-H exhibitors must attend a minimum of three 4-H Club meetings prior to

the show to be eligible to show.

6. Students with projects to be entered in the JOHNSON COUNTY JUNIOR

LIVESTOCK SHOW must have their entry cards completely filled out and

signed by the entrant, their parent or guardian, and supervisor (A.S.T.,

C.E.A., or F.C.E.T.) and turned in to the general superintendent, or his

designee, the third Tuesday of January at the regular scheduled Directors

Board Meeting. Entries turned in after the specified date will pay the regular

entry fee plus a $15.00 late charge. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED

DURING THE WEEK OF THE SHOW. All entries will be made by the A.S.T.,

C.E.A., or F.C.E.T. with one check for the entry fees drawn on an account of

a 4-H, FFA, or FCCLA Chapter and made payable to the JOHNSON COUNTY

LIVESTOCK AND AGRICULTURE ASSOCIATION, INC. or the J.C.J.L.A.,

Inc.

7. Gates will open at 8:00 am on Wednesday for livestock. All animals, except

poultry, must be in place by 2:00 pm on Wednesday. Market animals are to

be in assigned stalls at all times except when in the show ring, wash rack or

being exercised. Tie outs will be allowed in designated areas for cattle only.

8. All poultry, rabbits, breeding goats, and breeding sheep will be released at

the conclusion of their respective shows. All other breeding livestock will be

released at the conclusion of the Beef Heifer Show, Friday night. Market

animals not going through the sale may be released on Friday, between 4:00

and 8:00 pm. All remaining livestock will be released at the conclusion of the

Market sale. Early release of any animal requires the approval of the respective

Superintendent and the General Superintendent.

9. Exhibitors must show their own projects, with the following exceptions:

a. When an exhibitor has more than one entry per class, any family member or another

member of the exhibitor’s chapter or club meeting with the approval of the division

superintendent may exhibit the project(s).

b. Any other exception as may be approved by the Board of Directors of the JOHNSON

COUNTY LIVESTOCK AND AGRICULTURE ASSOCIATION, INC.

10. Any student who is academically ineligible according to TEA regulations will not be

allowed to participate in show or sale. A “No Pass, No Show” rule will be enforced

regardless of extended break. All entries of the exhibitor are ineligible to show or

sale.

11. All exhibitors in the JOHNSON COUNTY LIVESTOCK SHOW AND YOUTH FAIR

are expected to cooperate with show officials to present their exhibits.

12. All rabbits, steers, goats, lambs, and swine will be weighed at the times designated

by the division superintendents. The ASSOCIATION will provide the scales for

weigh-in.

13. All exhibitors will be limited to a maximum of two (2) animals from different divisions

in the sale, and one (1) Non-Animal item. All exhibitors must notify the division

superintendent at the conclusion of the market animal judging whether or not an

animal will be sold. ALL OVERALL GRAND CHAMPION AND OVERALL

RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION steers, swine, lambs, goats, rabbits, and poultry will

be sold at auction. Decoration of market animals for the Junior Auction is Prohibited;

animals must be presented for Auction in their natural show state (i.e.no glitter,

paint, balloons, etc. allowed.) A six (6) percent commission will be charged on all

sale entries.

14. Sale Items:

a. The Sales Committee will determine and post for each eligible division, the % of

animals to be sold out of each class.

b. Individuals who place more than one sale animal in a division, or sale item in the

Youth Fair, must notify the office within 30 minutes following the completion of hog

judging which animal, or item, they wish to sell at auction. After 30 minutes the next

highest eligible placing entry will be placed on the sale order.

c. The Sales Committee has the final and absolute right to interpret the rules regarding

the auction sale and shall determine the sale order of all animals and other items

offered for sale through the auction.

d. EXHIBITORS WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE IN ATTENDANCE FOR THE AUCTION

SALE. THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MUST APPROVE EXCEPTIONS.

15. The exhibitors will provide all feed. No hay or straw may be used for bedding. Wood

shavings will be allowed in all barns, except the Tom Frank Jones Arena. No

shearing will be allowed in the Tom Frank Jones Arena.

16. All animals must be owned and in the exhibitor's possession and under that

individual's care at the specified date for ownership or validation date. Each

exhibitor is responsible for care and preparation of their animals for exhibit up

through the show dates.

17. Ear tags and wing bands must stay attached on all animals while on show grounds.

18. Exhibitors, and/or their representatives, may not spend the night on the show

grounds. Only authorized individuals will be allowed on the grounds after 11:00 pm

and before 5:00 am

19. Any animal entry which, when rubbed with a white cloth or glove shows residual

evidence of artificial coloring, will be sifted, with the exception of dressing on hooves.

20. The Johnson County Livestock and Agriculture Association, Inc., reserves the right

to condemn and/or disqualify any animal, either alive or slaughtered, found to be in

violation of the use of drugs, chemicals, or feed additives not approved by the F. D.

A. or the U. S. D. A. and may cause the exhibitor to forfeit any monies he or she

might have received from the show.

21.Any person violating any of the Rules and Regulations, without express written

permission of the division superintendent, or general superintendent, may forfeit any

prize money he or she might have won and the privilege to show at the Johnson County

Livestock Show and Youth Fair, and at all later shows.

22.All protests must be submitted in writing to the superintendent's office, and be

accompanied by a protest fee of $50.00 cash, before any action will be taken. The fee

will be refunded to the protester if the ruling is in their favor.

23.Dogs will not be allowed on show grounds during the Junior Livestock Show.

24.Animals may be validated in immediate family names that live in the same household

at the time of validation and the individual exhibitor’s entry will be declared at the scale.

Johnson County Livestock Show Scholarships

The Brad Johnson Scholarship is named in the memory of the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benny Earl

Johnson. A Cleburne High School student, Brad lost his life in a hunting accident. Friends of the family

wanted to establish a memorial that would honor both Brad and his family. Since Benny Earl was a

long-time supporter of the Johnson County Livestock Show and had been the sale auctioneer for many

years, the group decided to create a scholarship selected by the Agriculture teachers of Johnson

County to be awarded at the county livestock show. The first one was given in 1984.

The second scholarship was established after the loss of Crystal Lilly in an auto accident on January

12, 1997. Crystal was an active Cleburne FFA member and Johnson County 4-H member. She was the

daughter of Joe and Donna Lilly. She was enrolled at Trinity Valley Community College at the time of

her death. Crystal had taken part in the Johnson County Junior Livestock Show since she was old

enough to participate. She exhibited lambs, swine and dairy animals and was very

successful in each species. It was only natural that friends of the family chose to establish the

scholarship in her memory to be awarded at the county show.

The third scholarship was established in the memory of Kristopher Thetford. Kristopher lost his life in

an accident on August 21, 2000. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Thetford, Kristopher had been a member

of the Joshua FFA and had been a very competitive participant in the Johnson County Livestock Show.

He had exhibited dairy heifers and swine to championship honors. Jon, Kristopher's dad, has served on

the board of directors of the association and a fitting tribute to the family was considered, and again, a

scholarship was established in his name.

The fourth scholarship was established in the memory of A.D. Wheat. Mr. Wheat was an Agriculture

Science teacher at Cleburne High School for over 40 years and touched the lives of many young men

and women during his years as a teacher. His influence on young people did not end with his retirement

in 1982. Mr Wheat founded Good Deeds, Inc. and continued to work with young people. Mr. Wheat also

spent many years with the Christian Heritage Foundation. Mr. Wheat was one of the most recognizable

and loved men in Johnson County. A fund was established in 2007 for a future scholarship.

Senior showmanship. An exhibitor must be eligible to show and have an animal entered in the division to

BEEF HEIFER DIVISION

1. Entries in this division must meet all the requirements of the JCJLA General Rules and

Regulations.

2. Each exhibitor must own each entry by November 1, 2010.

3. Heifers may be purebred or crossbred. Breed classes will be posted after registration papers have

been checked in.

4. Registration papers will be checked at a designated table in the heifer barn between 2:00 and 3:00

pm on Wednesday.

5. All entries must have a date of birth on the entry card.

6. All registered heifers will be recognized as a breed regardless of the number of entries. Any

unregistered heifers will be shown in crossbred classes.

7. A breed champion will be selected from the first place heifer of each class of that breed.

8. A reserve breed champion will be selected from the remaining first place animals of that breed and

the second place heifer from the age class from which the breed champion was selected

9. A supreme champion heifer will be selected from the breed champions. A reserve supreme

champion will be selected from the remaining breed champions and the reserve breed champion from

the breed from which the supreme champion was selected.

10. The heifer show will be a Blow and Go Show. Any animal with adhesive or artificial colorants will

be disqualified from the show. Heifers must be exhibited under halter in the show ring.

11. Judging will begin at 3:00 pm on Friday or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the swine show, if

later.

12. Fifty percent (50%) of the total entry monies will be distributed in the form of prize money.

13. Tie outs will be provided in the southeast corner bucking pens between the cattle barn and the

outdoor rodeo arena. The gates on this pen will be locked at 11:00 pm and unlocked at 5:00 am.

This is the only area where cattle may be left out of the barn overnight. No straw will be allowed.

Shavings may be used for bedding. Tie outs will be assigned and marked at the same time stalls are

assigned.

MARKET BROILER DIVISION

1. Entries in this division must meet all the requirements of the JCJLS General Rules and Regulations.

2. All broilers must have been ordered through the Johnson County Extension Office. All broilers will

have health certificate according to the State Regulations. Broilers must have originated from

breeding flocks that have met the pollorum-typhoid requirements of the National Poultry Improvement

Plan.

3. Any birds whose reduced comb growth or other secondary sex characteristics indicate the presence

of a hormone will be disqualified and sifted.

4. Broilers must have been hatched and purchased by exhibitors on or before January 1st. Wing band

#'s will be recorded to exhibitors when birds are picked up and wing band #'s must match exhibitor at

time of show.

5. a. Broilers must be ordered in multiples of 25 birds per exhibitor.

b. A pen will be made up of three broilers from each exhibitor's order.

c. An exhibitor may enter a maximum of two pens from their order.

6. Broilers may start arriving at 6:00 am Friday and be in place by 8:30 am. Broilers will be released at

the conclusion of broilers show, except birds making the sale.

7. Judging will begin at 9:00 am Friday.

8. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st - 10th place.

9. The sales committee will determine # of broiler pens to make sale.

DAIRY CATTLE DIVISION

1. Entries in this division must meet all the requirements of the JCJLA General Rules and Regulations.

2. Classes will be provided for Jersey, Holstein, Guernsey, and Brown Swiss. Other breeds will show

together. They can be grade or registered.

3. Fresh cows may be allowed to leave show grounds after showing, but must be checked out by

general superintendent of show.

4. Any class with an excessive number of entries will be split according to withers height.

5. Judging will begin at 7:00 pm Wednesday.

6. A Junior Champion of breed will be selected from the top heifers in Class 1 - Class 4. A Senior

Champion will be selected from cows in Class 5 - Class 7. Overall Grand and Reserve Champion of

breed will be selected from the Junior and Senior Champions.

7. Ribbons will be awarded 1st-10th.

8. Fifty percent (50%) of the total monies will be distributed in the form of prize money.

3. All goats will be required to have horns tipped, no sharp tips allowed.

Removal of horns is not allowed at the Posse grounds during the show.

4. Male goats must be castrated.

5. This division is open to any breed or crossbred goat.

6. Market goats will be weighed on Wednesday afternoon. Goats must weigh a

minimum of 50 lbs. Goats not weighing 50 lbs. may be removed from the show

grounds after weigh-in.

7. Classes will be split according to weight after weigh-in.

8. Judging will begin at the conclusion of the Breeding Goat Division Thursday.

9. Grand and Reserve Champion market goats must be sold at the auction sale.


11. The sales committee will determine # of market goats to make sale.

BREEDING MEAT GOAT DIVISION


2. The exhibitor must own each entry by December 1st.

3. This division is open to all breeds.

4. Breeding meat goat classes:

Class 1 - 1-12 months (must have milk teeth)

Class 2 - 13-24 months

Class 3 - 25 months and over

5. Judging will begin at 7:30 am Thursday.

6. An overall Grand and Reserve Champion will be selected.


8. Breeding goats are not eligible for the auction sale.


MARKET RABBIT DIVISION


2. a. Market pens can either be raised or purchased pen.

b. Breeding date for does is 100 days prior to show.

c. Purchased pens should be born 70 days prior to show.

3. a. Rabbits will be validated at 5 weeks of age at place to be determined.

b. Each pen should validate at least 4 bunnies if possible, but you may validate as many as you

want.

c. Each pen will have its own tattoo. (To be determined by Superintendent)

4. a. An exhibitor may enter a maximum of two pens.

b. Each pen shall consist of three rabbits.

c. Maximum weight is 15 lbs per pen and minimum weight is 9 lbs per pen.

d. Pens of rabbits must be of same breed, variety (color), and conformity.

5. Market rabbits must be in place by 1:00 pm Wednesday. Weigh-in for market rabbits will start at 1:00

pm and close at 3:00 pm

6. All sick and diseased animals will be dismissed from the grounds.

7. The animal's care will be the responsibility of the exhibitor from the time of arrival and until the animal

leaves the premises.

8. a. Classes will be broken for market rabbits by combine weight per pen

b. Each class will consist of no more than 20 pens.

c. Class winners will compete for Grand and Reserve Champions overall.

9. Judging will begin at the conclusion of the Breeding Rabbit Division Thursday.

10. Rabbits will be released after the conclusion of the rabbit show except for the Grand and Reserve

Champions and class winners from the Market division, which will be put on display until the sale.

11. The sales committee will determine # of meat pens to make sale.

BREEDING RABBIT DIVISION


2. The exhibitors must own each entry by December 1st.

3. Rabbits should have a tattoo in left ear for identification.

4. Breeding rabbits must be in place by 1:00 pm on Wednesday; check-in from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

5. All sick or diseased animals will be dismissed from the grounds.

6. Judging will begin at 3:00 pm after market rabbit check-in.

7. All rabbits will be judged by A.R.B.A rules.

8. Breeding rabbit classes are:

1. Fancy - Junior Doe (Under 6 months of age)

2. Fancy - Senior Doe (Over 6 months of age)

3. Fancy - Junior Buck (Under 6 months of age)

4. Fancy - Senior Buck (Over 6 months of age)

5. Commercial - Junior Doe (Under 6 months of age)

6. Commercial - 6-8 month Doe

7. Commercial - Senior Doe (Over 8 months of age)

8. Commercial - Junior Buck (Under 6 months of age)

9. Commercial - 6-8 month Buck

10. Commercial - Senior Buck (Over 8 months of age)

9. Breeding rabbits will remain in their carriers until the appropriate class is called. Bringing the rabbits

to the judging table is the responsibility of the exhibitor.

10. Trophies will be awarded to Best of Show Fancy Breed, Best Opposite Fancy Breed, Best of Show

Commercial Breed, and Best Opposite Commercial Breed.


12. Breeding rabbits are not eligible for auction sale.


MARKET LAMB DIVISION


2. Lambs must be validated the first Saturday in November unless State Validated.

3. All market lambs must be shorn slick prior to classifying and weigh-in.

4. Lambs must weigh a minimum of 80 lbs. The classifier will be at weigh-in. The superintendent will divide

classes after weigh-in.

5. There will be four classes for market lambs:

Class 1 Fine wool - Rambouillet, Delaine Merino, or a cross between these two breeds.

Class 2 Fine wool cross - The first cross between fine wool and medium wool.

Class 3 Medium wool - All medium wool breeds and crosses.

Class 4 Southdown

6. Judging will begin at 1:00 pm Thursday.

7. A Champion and Reserve Champion will be selected from each of the four classes. The overall Grand

Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will be selected from the Grand and Reserve of each class.


9. The sales committee will determine # of market lambs to make sale.

BREEDING SHEEP DIVISION

1. Entries in this division must meet all the requirements of the JCJLS General Rules and

Regulations.

2. Sheep must be purebred and owned by exhibitor by December 1st.

3. There will be three classes for breeding sheep:

Class 1 Female Ewe Lambs (All milk teeth)

Class 2 Female Yearling (Two teeth)

Class 3 Ewes over two years (four to six teeth)

4. There will be classes for the following breeds:

5. Suffolk, Hampshire, Dorset, Southdown, Rambouillet

6. Judging will begin Thursday after the conclusion of the market lambs.

7. There will be a Champion Ewe and a Reserve Champion Ewe selected for each breed.


9. Breeding lambs are not eligible for the auction sale.


NATIVE STEER DIVISION

1. The steer must be born in Johnson County.

2. All native steer verifications forms must be documented on steer entry card.

3. All native steers will be encouraged to exhibit in this division.

4. All native steers will be exhibited as one class.

5. Awards will be rewarded to the Grand Champion native steer and the Reserve Grand Champion

native steer.

6. All other rules in the Market Steer Show apply.

7. No entry fee will be required for this class.

MARKET STEER DIVISION

1. Entries in this division must meet all the requirements of the JCLA General Rules and

Regulations.

2. All calves must be validated by September 11, 2010. Calves validated in June for State Validation

need not be revalidated.

3. All calves must be halter broke to lead in the show ring and be owned, fed, and cared for by the

exhibitor.

4. Purebred grade or crossbred steers of any of the major breeds are eligible to enter this division.

5. There will be three subdivisions for Market Steers:

A. AMERICAN BREED AND AMERICAN CROSSBRED STEERS: Pureblood or crossbred Beef

master, Brahman, Brangus, Red Brangus, or Santa Gertrudis steers. All steers in this class

must show predominate breed characteristics of one of these breeds.

B. ENGLISH BREED & ENGLISH CROSSBRED STEERS: Steers must be straight-bred Angus,

Hereford, Polled Hereford, Shorthorn and Red Angus or must have a sire and dam of

purebred, grade or crossbred breeding of one or more of the above breeds exclusively.

C. EUROPEAN BREEDS & CROSS STEERS: To include any cross or other breed of steers not

in the above classes.

6. All steers have to be sheared with hair being no longer than one-fourth (1/4) inch, all over the

body except the tail switch. MUST BE COMPLETELY SHEARED BEFORE WEIGH-IN OR WILL

NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO SHOW

7. The superintendent shall determine number of steers classes in each subdivision after all steers

are weighed in. No maximum weight limit will be enforced, although the steers must carry a

minimum weight of 1000 lbs. to be considered eligible for the market steer division.

8. Judging will begin at 6:00 pm Thursday.

9. This division of the show shall be judged by places. A Champion and Reserve Champion steer will

be selected from each of the subdivision listed above and subsequently the Grand Champion and

Reserve Grand Champion overall will then be selected.


11. The sales committee will determine # of market steers to make sale.

12. Tie outs will be provided in the southeast corner bucking pens between the cattle barn and the

outdoor rodeo arena. The gates on this pen will be locked at 11:00 pm and unlocked at 5:00 am.

This is the only area where cattle may be left out of the barn overnight. No straw will be allowed.

Shavings may be used for bedding. Tie outs will be assigned and marked at the same time stalls

are assigned.

MARKET TURKEY DIVISION


2. All turkey poults must have been ordered through Texas A & M University Poultry Science Department. The

Official Poult Order Form will serve to meet the requirements of the Texas Pollorum Disease-Foul Typhoid Act of

1977 and no other turkey health papers need to be submitted for this show.

3. Wing band #'s will be recorded (may be recorded in family names) when birds are picked up and must match

each exhibitor at time of show.

4. From the date they are distributed as day olds, all poults must be owned and fed by the exhibitor.

5. a. Turkeys must be ordered in multiples of 10 birds per exhibitor.

b. An exhibitor may enter a maximum of two pens from exhibitor's order.

c. There are no weight limits for either toms or hens.

6. A Sifting Committee, with the Department Superintendent as one member, shall be appointed to inspect all

entries for the purpose of eliminating any entry not in proper condition or having external parasites. Sick and

diseased turkeys will be refused entry.

7. Any bird producing an analysis with a quantity of any unapproved drug or not properly withdrawn from approved

drugs will be disqualified.

8. Turkeys losing their wing band, for whatever reason, or shows evidence of being tampered with or if the wing

web is torn in any way, the bird will be disqualified.

9. Birds not accepted at the time of sifting will be returned to their owner. The show assumes no responsibility for

sifted birds.

10. HANDLING OF BIRDS BY ANYONE AFTER THEY ARE IN CAGES IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED EXCEPT WITH

THE PERMISSION OF THE SUPERINTENDENTS OF THE SHOW.

11. Birds may start arriving at 6:00 am Friday and must be in place by 8:30 am. Birds will be released at the

conclusion of turkey show, except birds making the sale.

12. Judging will begin at 9:30 am Friday.

13. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st - 10th.

15. The sales committee will determine # of birds to make sale.

GOOD HOUSEKEEPING AWARDS

1. Special prizes will be awarded to the group, which presents the most attractive exhibit throughout the period of the

show. A committee will make daily inspections to determine which group, in their judgement, had the best exhibit,

taking into consideration the following points:

A. Orderliness and cleanliness of quarters, stalls and animals.

B. Promptness in having stalls or pens cleaned by 8:00 am each day.

C. Systematic and neat arrangements of equipment and feed in the service alleys and pens.

D. Well taken care of animals, watered and fed.

E. Observance of all rules and regulations.

F. Cooperating with show officials in promoting ethics and the livestock show in general.

G. Personal appearance and conduct of exhibitors.

2. Awards will be given for the divisions of Swine, Beef, Sheep, Dairy, and Goats.

3. Awards will be presented to the winners at the Annual Membership Meeting.

JCLAA Sweepstakes Rules

1. Sweepstakes winners will receive a $250 certificate for the purchase of a beef, dairy, swine,

sheep, or goat project, (market or breeding). This certificate must be used in accordance with the

validation/ownership dates of the particular species as specified in the JCLAA rules.

2. All rules of the Johnson County Livestock and Agriculture Association apply.

3. Animals purchased with the certificate must attend the next Johnson County Livestock Show.

4. An individual may only receive one certificate for the duration of his/her 4-H/FFA years.

5. An initial thank you letter and a summary letter after the County Show must be mailed to the

sponsor, and a copy submitted to the AST/CEA. It is strongly suggested that more

contacts/interactions be made with the sponsor.

6. A sign with the sponsor's name must be posted on the pen or stalling area of the animal.

7. Qualified applicants will be selected to participate in the selection process. Qualified is defined

as approved by their AST or CEA. The actual sweepstakes winners will be selected via a drawing.

The number of winners will simply depend on the number of certificates available.

Johnson County Youth Fair for 2011

General Rules and Regulations

1. Participation in the JOHNSON COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW AND YOUTH FAIR is limited to students who are at

least eight (8) years old and in the 3rd grade (at date of show) through grade 12 in high school, and who are members of

4H, FFA or FCCLA within Johnson County, Texas and either reside in or attend school (public, private or home) in Johnson

County, Texas. Youth Fair Exhibitor must be a member of 4H, FFA or FCCLA at time of show entry.

2. There shall be a junior age group (13 years and younger at date of show) and a senior age group (14 years and older at date

of show). Junior and Senior age groups are judged separately in each division.

3. Entries will be accepted on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Wednesday morning from 8:00 am to 12:00

pm. The door will close at 12:00 pm.

4. Entry forms are due at the January Livestock Association meeting. ENTRY FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNLESS

COMPLETELY FILLED OUT. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMERS MUST BE ON ALL ENTRY FORMS. Entry fees must be

submitted with entry forms. Entries turned in after the specified date will pay the regular entry fee plus a $15.00 per entry

late change. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED DURING THE CALENDAR WEEK OF THE SHOW.

5. NO SUBSTITUTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED. Youth must compete with the item that was listed on their entry forms.

6. Judging will begin at 1:00 pm Wednesday. The building will not be open to the public until judging has been completed.

7. During the judging, the exhibitor’s name will not be displayed.

8. Non food exhibits must not have been previously shown in the Johnson County Youth Fair.

9. Exhibits must remain in place until 5:30 pm on Wednesday. Youth Fair will be open to the public from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

on Wednesday. All exhibits may be picked up by the owner anytime after 5:30 pm on Wednesday, but must be picked up

by 8:00 pm Wednesday or they will be discarded.

10. Exhibitors may enter only one entry in each division, but may enter more than one division. Entries may be reclassified at

the discretion of the superintendents. All judges’ and superintendents’ decisions are final.

11. In all cases the entries must be the work of the exhibitor. Any entry found to be otherwise will be disqualified.

12. Any entry not conforming to the stated rules will be disqualified at the discretion of the superintendents or judges.

13. Judges will not award a prize to any unworthy exhibit whether there is competition or not.

14. Exhibitor must be present to sell items at auction. Number of Youth Fair items to go to auction will be determined by the sales

committee. Each exhibitor may sale only one Youth Fair item.

15. A 6% commission will be charged on all Youth Fair items sold at auction.

16. All Grand & Reserve Grand Champions will be sold in the auction on Saturday, with the exception of decorated cakes and

clothing, which will be awarded prize money. Each participant may only sale one Youth Fair item in Saturday’s auction. In the case that

one participant earns more than one sale slot, the participant will be contacted to determine which item the exhibitor wishes to sell. Other

lower placing items may be placed in the auction to fill the allotted slots should this occur.

17. No additional decorations are allowed on items in the auction ring; items must be taken into the auction ring exactly as they were

entered in the Youth Fair for judging.

18. The names of the persons who will sell items in the auction will be posted at 5:30 pm on Wednesday.

19. There will be no Country Store to sell non auction Youth Fair items.

20. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to make sure that their Youth Fair entries are in line with the rules set forth in the current rule

book; entries that are not in compliance may be disqualified from competition. All Youth Fair committee decisions are final.

21. All entries, regardless of type, in each division and age group are judged against the other entries in that division and age group.

22. All Grand and Reserve Grand winners will be put in the “Youth Fair Book of Champions” which is sold as a fundraiser for the

Youth Fair Buyer’s Pool. A picture of the winners and their entry along with a recipe for baked goods will be included. Photos for the Book

of Champions will be taken on Wednesday between 5:30 and 8:00 pm

BAKED GOODS

1. All entries must be accompanied with the recipe at the time of check in. The recipe must be typed in

black ink on one side of one 8 ½ x 11 sheet of plain, white printer paper with no clip art, colored ink or

added decorations. Please include all ingredients, even garnishes. The recipe shall not include the

student’s name. The recipe must be attached to the entry by tape.

2. All baked goods with the exception of create-a-cake and decorated cakes must be made from scratch.

3. All entries, with the exception of decorated cakes will be tasted.

4. Containers: All baked goods must be covered with a non-colored clear material and be in a disposable

container. Inexpensive hard plastic or metal containers are not considered disposable. No glass

containers allowed. Examples of acceptable containers are:

• Clear plastic disposable cake covers

• Any disposable container such as a foil pan, plain white paper plate or covered cardboard inserted

into a clear zip-loc bag

• Foil pan or covered cardboard covered with clear plastic wrap

• Foil container with clear plastic lid

• Space is limited; containers that exceed the size of the exhibit by 3” per side will not be accepted.

• The following is not acceptable:

i. Any colored or decorated container

ii. No added decorations, including doilies

iii. Cardboard cake boxes

5. All youth with baked goods entries in the auction will be required to bake a fresh product to be delivered

to the buyer during the week following the sale.

6. Entries will be judged on appearance, color, moisture content, texture, lightness and flavor.

7. No entries requiring refrigeration will be accepted, including cool whip, whipping cream or meringue.

Cream cheese icing or filling will be allowed.

Division – Candy

Entry Fee $5.00

1. Exactly 9 pieces of the same type of candy entered in an acceptable container.

2. Examples of candy (entries are not limited to this list): divinity, fudge, brittle and cake balls.

Division – Cookies

Entry Fee $5.00

1. Exactly 9 cookies from the recipe entered in an acceptable container.

2. Examples of cookies (entries are not limited to this list): bar, shaped, no bake, filled, brownies, drop

cookies. This category does not include cake balls.

Division – Cakes

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Cakes must be entered on an acceptable container.

2. Examples of cakes (entries are not limited to this list): pound, fruit flavored, layered, German chocolate,

cupcakes (plate of 6), create-a-cake.

3. Create-a-cake must use some type of mix, pudding mix, frosting mix, etc., plus added ingredients. All

mixes must be listed on the recipe.

Division – Breads

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Breads must be entered in an acceptable container. Only one type of bread may be entered.

2. Examples of breads (entries are not limited to this list): loaf, coffee cake, muffins (plate of 6), rolls (plate

of 6), whole grain, cake or pumpkin jelly roll.

Division – Pies

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Pies must be entered in an acceptable container.

2. No pies requiring refrigeration will be accepted, including cream pies, custard pies, chess pies,

buttermilk, cheesecake or meringue topped pies.

3. Crust must be prepared from scratch. Include crust recipe on the recipe sheet.

4. Examples of acceptable pies (entries are not limited to this list): cherry, apple, pecan or other fruit or nut

pie.

Division – Canned Goods

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. All entries must be accompanied with the recipe at the time of check in. The recipe must be typed in

black ink on one side of one 8 ½ x 11 sheet of plain, while printer paper with no clip art, colored ink or

added decorations. Please include all ingredients, even garnishes on the recipe. Recipes must be

attached to the entry. The recipe shall not include the student’s name.

2. All canned foods must have been canned since the previous show and processed by acceptable canning

methods.

3. Products for canning may have been bought, but they must have been canned by the exhibitor.

4. Pectin may be used such as commercially available, but no artificial coloring will be accepted. Red-hots

used in pickle products are considered flavoring and are allowed.

5. Each participant will bring 2 pint sized standard or wide mouth jars. One jar will be opened, tasted by the

judges and then discarded for sanitation/health reasons.

6. Entries will be judged according to the following regulations:

a. Container

i. Standard or wide mouth, pint sized canning jars must be used

ii. Standard, fruit jar lids free from rust or corrosion

iii. No decorative jars or lids are allowed

b. Pack

i. Practical, but no fancy

ii. Uniform in size whether whole or in pieces

iii. Space in jar filled but not crowded, large proportion of vegetable to liquid

c. Color

i. Characteristic of freshly cooked product, not faded or darkened

ii. Liquid characteristic of product

d. Texture

i. Shape held, evenly graded

ii. Uniform maturity

iii. Not mushy from over-ripeness or over-cooking

e. Taste

7. Canned good must be one of the following: fruit butters, pickles, fruits, preserves, jelly, jams, relishes,

sauces, marmalades

Division – Arts

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Art must be matted, framed or mounted on cardboard. The use of canvas is permitted.

2. Entries must be original, not “paint-by-number”.

3. Exhibitor must cover signature on item entered for judging purposes.

4. Examples of art (entries are not limited to this list): oils, watercolor, pencil, acrylics, collage, colored

markers

Division – Crafts

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Examples of crafts (entries are not limited to this list): ceramics, decorated garment, stenciling, weaving,

flower arrangements, wreaths, sand art, models, latch hooking, paper crafts

Division – Creative Stitchery

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Examples of creative stitchery (entries are not limited to this list): counted cross-stitch, embroidery,

knitted/crocheted items, pillows, quilts

Division – Photography

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. All photographs must be 8 inches by 10 inches in dimension.

2. All prints must be permanently mounted on stiff foam or mounting board no larger than 8 inches by 10

inches. No poster boards, fun foam or other flimsy craft material is acceptable as a mounting material.

Matting of any kind is not allowed. Photography in frames will NOT be accepted.

3. Photos should be inserted into a gallon size clear zip-loc bag.

Division – Clothing

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Clothing must have been made since the previous year’s show. Entries will not be accepted that are

soiled, torn or patched. No clothing will be accepted unless on a hanger.

2. Clothing items will not be auctioned. Grand Champion Junior and Senior will receive $35.00 prize money.

Reserve Champions will receive $25.00.

3. Examples of clothing (entries are not limited to this list): aprons, skirts, evening wear, sleep wear,

dresses, jackets

Division – Decorated Cakes

Entry Fee - $5.00

1. Decorated cake items will not be auctioned. Grand Champion Junior and Senior will receive $35.00 prize

money. Reserve Champion Junior and Senior will receive $25.00.
