“My favorite Lehigh Valley discovery is all of the local parks in Allentown.

The City of Allentown’s fabulous park system is one of the first things that attracted me to the city. We are extremely fortunate to be the beneficiaries

of General Harry C. Trexler’s vision. Tens of thousands of people from inside and outside the city enjoy these exceptional public gathering places that are safe and attractive and reflect the community’s unique character and natural beauty.

It’s no wonder that so many charitable organizations use our parks for their fundraising walks. Our parks are one of the reasons why Allentown is a great place to live, work and play.”

“My favorite Lehigh Valley discovery is the various parades and festivals that happen in downtown Bethlehem.

I’m especially fond of the Halloween Parade at the end of October. I always sit at the corner of Main and Market streets looking south.

You’ll see scores of kids and families standing four and five people deep on both sides of Main Street, with the historic Moravian buildings and South Mountain in the background as a perfect, colorful fall backdrop. The famous Liberty High School Grenadier band marches down Main Street as the bagpipes play and it makes for a

perfect setting on a perfect day in downtown Bethlehem.”

“I have a lot of discoveries in Lehigh Valley, but my favorite, the one nearest and dearest to my heart, has to be State Theatre Center of the Arts in Easton.

The State Theatre brings a variety of arts and entertainment to one location. It’s a melting pot of creativity and that artistic diversity brings

people together.”

The third largest city in Pennsylvania, and the

largest of Lehigh Valley, Allentown is a city rich in

culture, tradition and history. Founded in 1762 by

William Allen, a former Philadelphia mayor, and

named for him in 1838, Allentown transformed

from a small community of Pennsylvania Dutch

farmers and tradesmen into a marketing center

for local farmers into the 1920s. The tradition

still stands today at the Allentown Fairgrounds

Farmers Market, where farmers and merchants sell everything from produce to baked goods to candy every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Allentown was once a thriving center of the manufacturing industry but shifted its focus with the rise of the service industry. Now, the city is teeming with cultural attractions; its many museums, historic sites and arts organizations contribute to its renewal and

Founded by members of the Moravian com-munity in 1741, Bethlehem is situated between Allentown and Easton. By 1758, 35 industries were located in Bethlehem, along with the original businesses set up by the Moravians—now known as the Colonial Industrial Quarter.

In 1899, with the organization of Bethlehem Steel Corp., the city became the center for heavy industry and trade; Bethlehem Steel most famously produced the steel for the

construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. Since the decline of the manufacturing industry in the 1970s and 1980s, this Lehigh Valley city has been transformed into a hub of fashionable and exciting dining, shopping and nightlife.

In the last decade, Bethlehem has experienced its own renaissance. The historic district, originally an area rich with the cultural traditions and religions of its many immigrants, is now home to the affectionately named

Founded in 1752, Easton—Lehigh Valley’s

smallest city—sits at the convergence of the

Delaware and Lehigh rivers just on the New

Jersey state border. In 1765, Northampton

County’s first courthouse was built in what is

now known as Centre Square. It is here that

one of the original three readings of the

Declaration of Independence was conducted on

July 8, 1776; to this day, re-enactors celebrate

this event on Heritage Day.

Centre Square is also home to one of the oldest continuous open-air farmer’s markets in the country, which upholds its tradition Saturday mornings May - November. When the Lehigh Canal was completed in 1829, Easton became a center for industry, manufacturing, commerce and culture.

Easton’s history has been well-preserved over the years; many historical buildings still stand today and are still functioning as tour sites.

“Restaurant Row” as well as art galleries and eclectic shops. The first Friday of every month shows off the best of the Southside district, with music, entertainment and food at each venue participating in the First Friday Celebration. Bethlehem is also home to annual events such as Musikfest, Celtic Classic and Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem.

Allentown’s extensive park system boasts the highest acreage of any American city its size. Allentown’s event scene has flourished as well; annually, big events like the Mayfair Festival of the Arts, The Great Allentown Fair and Lights in the Parkway draw crowds from all over the region.

Downtown Easton is home to shops, restaurants, antiques stores and galleries. Area attractions include museums, arts organizations and the popular Crayola FACTORY®. Easton annually hosts the Riverside Festival for the Arts along the banks of the Delaware River.

MARTY NOTHSTEIN trexlertown native, two-time olympic medalist and three-time World Cycling champ

“My favorite Lehigh Valley discovery, to no one’s surprise, is the Velodrome [Valley Preferred Cycling Center]. However, most people don’t know what first brought the Velodrome to my attention. It actually occurred before I started racing. What initially caught my eye were the flags flying around the track every Friday night. I grew up less than a mile from the track and my grandparents lived only about 200 yards away, so I would see them frequently and wonder what those flags meant. It was only after I started racing

here that I learned they represent all the countries of the riders who have raced here over the years, and later I realized just how important the Velodrome is in the cycling world. We still fly those flags every time we race here.”

LARA JILL MILLERgraduate of William allen high School in allentown, child star of nbC’s “gimme a break!” and present day voice-over actress

“My favorite Lehigh Valley discovery is Trexler Park [in Allentown]. Growing up as a family, we used to drive slowly around the park in our big station wagon, eating ice cream from Carvel, looking at the golden leaves in the fall and white wonderland in winter. Of course, we’d always stop to feed the ducks. As I got older, I’d ride my bike there with friends. Sometimes we’d roller skate or play on inner tubes where the little brook ran by a log cabin. When jogging became all the rage, both my parents and I became avid Trexler Park runners! It was our favorite place to exercise. We still revisit Trexler Park almost every time I come home from Los Angeles or New York. We stroll through, walk past the log cabin and remember all the wonderful times we’ve had. It’s beautiful there. It’s a place I cherish.”

You’ll fly through LVIA!Lehigh Valley International Airport has none of the crowds, congestion or associated headaches found at big-city airports like Newark or Philadelphia. Fewer passengers means a quicker check-in … less stressful walks to the gate … and much easier baggage claim. You get in and out faster … with less time spent at the airport.

No crowds or congestion. It’s another reason why we can say, “You’ll fly through LVIA.”

Because there are no crowds or congestion …
