GIL HANKE SPEAKS ABOUT
SCOUTING MINISTRIES DUR-
ING THE 2012 GENERAL
CONFERENCE. ............ 2 Connection focus “TO HELP MEN GROW IN CHRIST, SO OTHERS MAY KNOW CHRIST”
In an on-going process the General Commission on United Methodist
Men develops resources to help Annual Conferences and Local Church
Discipling processes.
“Train The Trainer” . . . . a new initiative! The General Commission on United Meth-
odist men exists to serve UMM. In order to
ensure that our men receive the very best
training Deployed Staff Jim Boesch devel-
oped a process to train men in the art of
making qualified trainers.
To ensure a consistent, high-quality train-
ing process Jim crafted a 12 hour course to
teach how to make effective training
presentations. Moreover, his training shows
how to pass on this education to others
multiplying the number of qualified train-
ers.
The plan is to first target each Jurisdiction
to develop at least one qualified “Trainer of
Trainers” in that geography. Ultimately
each Annual Conference will have one or
more such trainers.
The Louisiana Annual Conference hosted
the inaugural training event with NACP
incoming President & MMAT Coordinator
Dan Ramsey observing. Jim Boesch con-
ducted the training assisted by Deployed
Staff Mark Lubbock. Gard Wayt, Wayne
Prejean, Ron Sarver and Charles Gilliam all
participated as prospective Trainers.
Accelerating Ministry to Men Want to fast-start the ministry to men in your local church? Do you find it challenging to connect
with the younger men associated with your church? Take heart! On Sept. 14-15, 2012, at New
Song UMC in Prairieville, LA vital training will be conducted teaching how to reach every man
in your church! This proven process is based on the “No Man Left Behind” model developed by
Man In The Mirror. They along with GBOD & GCUMM are partners in this training. REGIS-

Gil Hanke at the 2012 General Con-ference Sweeping changes failed to take place as voting
was declared invalid.
Gil Hanke reporting on his expe-
rience at General Conference
made serveral observations:
At the end of General Confer-
ence, the Council of Bishops
made new assignments to the
GCUMM Board. Bishop James
Swanson, a great leader within
this denomination will serve in a
leadership role in the commis-
sion for the next four years.
In the last two years there has
been a steady increase in coop-
eration between agencies and
new partner-
ships that reach
deep into the
annual confer-
ences. Phone
calls and emails
indicate grow-
ing interest in
groups of men doing ministry
weekly and growing in Christ
daily—more than just a monthly
breakfast with an optional pray-
er.
A strong interest within central
conferences to share their minis-
try through, to, with and for
men.
Validation from lay
leaders, pastors and
bishops that we are
going in the right
direction.
An increasing num-
ber of men who are
serving as scouting
ministry or men's ministry spe-
cialists.
The pace of our ministries
will increase and the fruit
will be even more obvious.
“I am filled with hope and
with new energy. That
cloud is gone, and I think
the future of men's minis-
try is very bright.”
