DIRECTOR’S WORDS

Mister COK is a tale of modern times, showing us the deeds of a grotesque and placid monster. His childish gibberish and his melancolic smile do not match the shear violence of his acts. A violence made more terrifying by the fact that nobody seems really to care, except a distasteful, shouting, violent character with a red scarf

This story softly mocks this fools gold, the way public opinions sometimes give their admiration to thiefs and robbers, just because their success is what the public is dreaming about. Any resemblance with existing people is not accidental in any way !

Franck Dion

SYNOPSIS

Mister Cok is the owner of a large bomb factory. Looking for efficiency and profit, he decides to replace his workers by sophisticated robots. The formers stare helplessly at the toil of the robotic labourers. But one of the workers does not accept being discarded so easily...

PRODUCTION NOTES

Mister COK’s production lasted a whole year, during which Franck Dion created the drawings, the sets and sculptures that the movie needed. The movie was animated at the Studio Train-Train, in Lille, North of France. Technically, Mister COK uses the conventions of paper cut-out, with numerical 2D graphics and puppets photographs. Miniatures, built with the help of Zoé Goetgheluck, were used for many sets. Compositing and additional animations were done in Paris. Mister COK is the first movie produced by Papy3D, a new production company founded by a team of animation directors.

(...) The same goes for a wild and surreal fable about an industrialist whose capitalist ways soon come back to haunt him. A unique style combined with a bitingly satirical edge made this a highlight of an extremely strong programme (...)

Laurence Boyce (fi lmandfestivals.com)

Monsieur Cok manages the diffi cult task of playing a strong political satire card while also being light, comedic and very entertaining and it succeeds brilliantly on all levels thanks to the unique character designs and unusual blend of 2D and 3D animation espoused by director Franck Dion. It kind of ends up being like Lane Smith on acid. As if Lane Smith needs any acid.
