For some, the path to self-discovery is a remote and unpaved road. And it’s for

these intrepid souls that the 2012 Toyota 4Runner was designed. With its reinforced

body-on-frame construction and its long list of standard and available technologies,

4Runner is the kind of SUV that’s always ready for remote and rugged adventures.

Over the years, its reputation for durability and longevity has become legendary.

And now, J.D. Power and Associates has named 4Runner the “Most Dependable

Midsize Crossover/SUV.”1 It’s no wonder that over 80% of 4Runners sold in the last

ten years are still on the road.2 Not to mention, off the beaten path. So the only

question is: You in? 2012 Toyota 4Runner. Moving Forward.

Real adventure is not to be taken

lightly. That’s why real adventurists

rely on the dependability of the

Toyota 4Runner. They know that the

rugged 4Runner is built not only to

get you out to the action, but also

to get you back in one piece.

1. The Toyota 4Runner received the lowest number of problems per 100 vehicles among midsize crossovers/SUVs in the proprietary J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Vehicle Dependability Study.SM Study based on 43,779 consumer

responses measuring problems consumers experienced in the past 12 months with three-year-old vehicles (2008 model year cars and trucks). Proprietary study results are based on experiences and perceptions of consumers surveyed

October-December 2010. Your experiences may vary. Visit jdpower.com. 2. Based on Polk U.S. Vehicles In Operation registration statistics MY 2001-2010 as of July 2010.

When it comes to overall SUV prowess, 4Runner’s got the competition eating dust.

Responsive performance is provided by an efficient V6 with Dual Independent Variable

Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) coupled to a smooth-shifting 5-speed ECT-i automatic

transmission. And 4-piston front brakes make short work of braking. Seems that even

when stopping, 4Runner is way ahead.

It’s a tough act to follow. But follow they do.

270-HP V6 Engine With Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing With intelligence (VVT-i)

Efficient use of resources is crucial when venturing into the unknown.

That’s why 4Runner’s V6 engine employs Dual Independent Variable Valve

Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). It’s an advanced system that precisely

times the opening and closing of the engine’s intake and exhaust valves

to maximize power while reducing its fuel consumption. This level of

technology helps 4Runner deliver 270 hp, a mighty 278 lb.-ft. of torque

and a 5000-lb. towing capacity.1 But what may be even more impressive

is that it generates all that power while achieving an EPA-estimated

23 highway mpg rating.2

5-Speed ECT-i Automatic Transmission One of our most advanced automatic transmissions, this 5-speed

transmission has a computer that networks with the engine’s computer

to control hydraulic shift pressure more precisely. The 5-speed

ECT-i also makes automatic adjustments to help reduce transmission

wear over time.

Sure, 4Runner has impeccable manners on pavement. This SUV, however, thrives in

more than one natural habitat. 4Runner provides ample ground clearance, along with

steep approach and departure angles to help clear imposing terrain. And 4Runner Trail

features an available Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) that relaxes sway

control for enhanced wheel articulation over deep ruts and large obstacles. Because

when the pavement ends, only the strong survive.

Out here, lesser vehicles are endangered species.

Available 4WD With A-TRAC and 2-Speed Transfer Case Using sensors at all four wheels to monitor a loss of traction, Active Traction

Control (A-TRAC) helps reduce wheelspin by employing brake and throttle

control and transferring torque to the wheel with the most traction. All 4WD

vehicles require a system to transfer power from the transmission to both

front and rear wheels. 4Runner’s transfer case has two gear ranges: high

and low. Low range is used for extreme low-speed off-road conditions.

Locking Rear DifferentialTo help you negotiate uncertain terrain, 4Runner Trail has an electronically

controlled locking rear differential that distributes engine power evenly

to both rear wheels, so they move at the same speed, even if one is off

the ground. It also ensures a predictable output to help you maintain a

controlled pace over obstacles.

Crawl Control1 (CRAWL) and Multi-terrain SelectFor specific off-road conditions, 4Runner Trail has two driver-selectable

features that help you negotiate off-road obstacles with controlled-speed

maneuvers. Crawl Control modulates the electronic throttle and brakes to

help maintain one of three set speeds. For better off-road performance

and traction, Multi-terrain Select lets you choose from four terrain modes:

“Mud and Sand,” “Loose Rock,” “Mogul” or “Rock.”

HAC2 and DAC2

If you’re at a stop on a steep uphill grade, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) can help

you get moving again. HAC helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backward as

the driver switches from the brake to the accelerator. It detects backward rotation

of the wheels, then gently applies the brakes, giving you time to engage the

accelerator. Available Downhill Assist Control (DAC) helps provide a controlled

descent on steep inclines. It sets a target vehicle speed of approximately 2-4 mph

and helps maintain that speed by signaling the brakes to modulate automatically.

FULL-SIZE SPARE

When the terrain is unforgiving and

civilization is half a day’s drive away,

you can’t afford to be saddled with

anything less than a full-size spare.

That’s why one comes standard

on all 4Runner models.

To your sense of adventure, add common sense.

While your many adventures have earned you a bold reputation, you’re not a danger

seeker. Neither are we. That’s why we’ve equipped the 2012 4Runner with an array

of active and passive safety features. The standard Star Safety System™ is designed

to help you avoid trouble. Our rigorous crash testing has helped us develop a

comprehensive occupant protection system that features eight standard airbags,1

should trouble prove unavoidable.

Star Safety System™

Everyone deserves to be safe. That’s why 4Runner, like every 2012 Toyota,

comes standard with the Star Safety System,™ a suite of six active safety

features designed to help keep you out of harm’s way. The system includes

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC),2 Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake

System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA)3

and Smart Stop Technology (SST).4

Eight Standard AirbagsShould a collision occur, 4Runner provides a comprehensive airbag system

as standard equipment. The system includes driver and front passenger

airbags, driver and front passenger Thorax, Abdomen, Pelvis (TAP) seat-

mounted side airbags, all-row Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags (RSCA),

and driver and front passenger knee airbags.

Safety Connect®5 Via Toyota’s 24/7 call center, 4Runner Limited’s Safety Connect® offers

subscribers helpful features such as Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle

Locator, Roadside Assistance and Automatic Collision Notification. Safety

Connect® also offers the reliability of embedded cellular and GPS technology.

21 3Front seat-mounted side airbags

help provide protection to the

driver and front passenger in the

event of certain types of severe

side-impact collisions.

The front seats also incorporate

active headrests,6 which move up

and forward, helping to reduce

the severity of whiplash injuries to

the driver and front passenger in

the event of certain lower-speed

rear-end collisions.

Not all collisions call for maximum

airbag deployment. 4Runner’s

Advanced Airbag System is

designed to provide appropriate

protection based on the situation.

In certain types of frontal collisions,

the system senses impact severity,

adjusting deployment accordingly.

5LATCH (Lower Anchors and

Tethers for CHildren) includes

lower anchors on outboard

second-row seating positions.

4Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags

(RSCA) help provide protection

for all rows of seats in certain

types of side collisions and in

the event of a roll.

1. Torsen® is a registered trademark of Zexel Torsen, Inc. 2. The Toyota 4Runner is designed to meet most off-road driving requirements, but off-roading is inherently dangerous. Abusive use may result in bodily harm or vehicle damage.

Toyota encourages responsible operation to protect you, your vehicle and the environment. Seatbelts should be worn at all times. 3. Cargo and load capacity limited by weight and distribution. 4. Before towing, confirm your vehicle and

trailer are compatible, hooked up and loaded properly and that you have any necessary additional equipment. Do not exceed any Weight Ratings and follow all instructions in your Owner’s Manual. The maximum you can tow depends on

the total weight of any cargo, occupants and available equipment. Calculated with new SAE J2807 method. 5. 2012 EPA-estimated mileage. Actual mileage will vary. 6. Toyota strives to build vehicles to match customer interest and thus

they typically are built with popular options and option packages. Not all options/packages are available separately and some may not be available in all regions of the country. See toyota.com for information about options/packages

commonly available in your area. If you would prefer a vehicle without any or with different options, contact your dealer to check for current availability or the possibility of placing a special order. 7. XM services require a subscription after

trial period, and are sold separately or as a package. Subscriptions governed by SiriusXM Customer Agreement; see www.siriusxm.com. If you decide to continue your XM service at the end of your complimentary trial, the plan

you choose will automatically renew and bill at then-current rates until you call 1-866-635-2349 to cancel. Fees and programming subject to change. Available only to those at least 18 years of age in the 48 contiguous United States

and D.C. 8. May not be compatible with all mobile phones, MP3/WMA players and like models. 9. iPod® is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. All rights reserved. 10. The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are registered trademarks owned

by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Toyota is under license. Other trademarks and trade names are those of their respective owners. The Bluetooth® wireless technology phones listed on toyota.com have been tested for

compatibility with Toyota vehicles. Performance will vary based on phone software version, coverage and your wireless carrier. Phones are warranted by their manufacturer, not Toyota. 11. Availability and accuracy of the information provided

by the navigation system or any XM services mentioned (if installed) are dependent upon many factors. Use common sense when relying on information provided. Services not available in every city or roadway. Periodic navigation updates

available at additional cost. See your Navigation System Owner’s Manual or contact XM for details. 12. Be sure to obey traffic regulations and maintain awareness of road and traffic conditions. Select Entune™ apps use a large amount of

data and you are responsible for all data charges. Apps and services vary by phone and carrier. Not all apps and data services are available initially. Apps identified by “TM” or “®” are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective

companies and cannot be used without permission. See toyota.com/entune for the latest information regarding apps and services. 13. The backup camera does not provide a comprehensive view of the rear area of the vehicle. You should

also look around outside your vehicle and use your mirrors to confirm rearward clearance. Cold weather will limit effectiveness and view may become cloudy. 14. HD Radio™ Technology manufactured under license from iBiquity Digital

Corporation U.S. and Foreign Patents. HD Radio™ and the HD, HD Radio, and “Arc” logos are proprietary trademarks of iBiquity Digital Corp. 15. iTunes® Tagging is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. All rights reserved. 16. The Smart

Key System may interfere with some pacemakers or cardiac defibrillators. If you have one of these medical devices, please talk to your doctor to see if you should deactivate this system. 17. The backup camera uses navigation system

display on vehicles so equipped. 18. HomeLink® is a registered trademark of Johnson Controls, Inc. 19. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions.

It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details.

20. Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions.

21. Smart Stop Technology operates only in the event of certain simultaneous brake and gas pedal applications. When engaged, the system will reduce engine power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop. Factors including speed,

road conditions and driver input can all impact stopping distance. Smart Stop Technology is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving and does not guarantee instant stopping. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details.

22. All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions;

side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit

upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an

inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. See your Owner’s Manual for further information/warnings. 23. Active front headrests can help reduce the extent of whiplash in certain types of rear-end collisions. 24. The Toyota Tire Pressure

Monitor alerts the driver when tire pressure is critically low. For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge; do not rely solely on the monitor system. See your Owner’s Manual for details.

25. Available on select Toyota models. Contact with the Safety Connect® response center is dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability, navigation map data and GPS satellite signal

reception, which can limit the ability to reach the response center or receive emergency service support. Enrollment and Telematics Subscription Service Agreement required. One-year trial subscription available only with new vehicle purchase

of Safety Connect®-equipped vehicles. Additional subscription terms available; charges vary by subscription term selected. 26. DAC is designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control and speed on steep downhill descents. HAC is

designed to help minimize backward rolling on steep ascents. Neither system is a substitute for safe driving judgment and practices. Factors including speed, grade, surface conditions and driver input can all affect whether DAC and HAC

will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details. 27. The engine immobilizer is a state-of-the-art anti-theft system. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a Smart Key fob

into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key or Smart Key fob matches the code in the vehicle’s immobilizer. Because the transponder chip

is embedded in the key or Smart Key fob, it can be costly to replace. If you lose a key or Smart Key fob, your Toyota dealer can help. Alternatively, you can find a qualified independent locksmith to perform high-security key services by

consulting your local Yellow Pages or by contacting www.aloa.org 28. Requires Premium Package.
