Begun in 1994 with Catawba, Greensboro, Limestone, Pfeiffer and Virginia Tech as the Deep South League, the Deep South Conference is one of theoldest and most prestigious lacrosse leagues in the South. It is dedicated to the highest quality of competition and sportsmanship.

St. Andrews joined in 1995 replacing Greensboro, while Virginia Tech left the league in 1996. Wingate and Lees-McRae were added in 1997.

In the summer of 1997, the Deep South was officially formed as a fully sanctioned NCAA Division II conference with six charter members in Northand South Carolina. Those schools were Catawba, Lees-McRae, Limestone, Pfeiffer, St. Andrews and Wingate.

With six teams, the Deep South Conference held its inaugural postseason tournament in 1997. In 1999, Mars Hill entered the Deep South Conference, increasing its membership to seven teams. Queens entered the league in 2004 to give the DSC eight teams. Belmont Abbey and Presbyterian joinedin 2006.

Ten teams competed for the 2006 Deep South Conference title. An amazing five teams shared the 2006 DSC regular season championship. ThreeDSC teams have participated in the NCAA Division II tournament. The league owns two national titles.

Following the 2006 season, the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (now Conference Carolinas) began sponsoring men's lacrosse. That led to thedeparture from the Deep South of the member institutions of that conference. Presbyterian would leave after the 2007 year to become a member ofNCAA I.

With the loss of the schools from the CVAC the Deep South Conference expanded to include schools in Florida. Saint Leo and Rollins were the firstto join with Florida Southern becoming a member in 2009. Lenoir-Rhyne was added in 2011 and the league welcomed Tampa and Florida Tech as itsnewest members in 2012 to give the league nine schools.
