1 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Reflecting back on my first year as NHMTA president, I realize how lucky I am to have such an excellent Board. Each member has taken on numerous tasks and fulfilled their duties with outstanding success and ease. Our programs are thriving and our students are succeeding. I’m especially happy to tell you about a new program we will be instituting in November 2012 – the Fall Festival. This Festival is designed to give many more of our students an opportunity to perform in a recital setting and to receive written critiques on their playing. It will be non-competitive, and teachers who enter students must either monitor at the event or write comments on the students’ performances. Each year the Festival will have a theme and this year it will be Contemporary Music. A specified, required repertoire list will be available to choose appropriate repertoire for your students. In future years the theme will be based on a different style period or on a form of composition. In this manner students will be exposed to a variety of repertoire and to other students playing similar compositions. You will find all the information later in this newsletter. Our biennial State Conference will be held on October 6 at Keene State College with guest clinician, Jane Magrath. She will present two sessions and will have a Question and Answer period as well. Many other exciting events will take place that day and you will find more complete information later in this newsletter. Make sure to check our website later this summer, when it’s updated, for application information on the Fall Festival and the State Conference. www.nhmta.net What are your musical plans for the summer? I plan to attend, for the first time, the National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum in Austin, TX. This program is sponsored by MTNA and will include topics on both group teaching and pedagogy presentations. I attended the National Conference on Piano Pedagogy last summer and was very impressed with all the sessions. I hope you might consider one of the conferences in the future. These conferences alternate years and are usually at the end of July or early August. It’s a great time to renew enthusiasm in teaching and performing. Finally, I hope you have a great summer that is relaxing, rejuvenating and exciting. FALL FESTIVAL

The purpose of the Fall Festival is to provide an opportunity for students to perform in a non-competitive setting and receive positive critiques from NHMTA teacher-members. Each year a special focus will be chosen, such as style period, composer, or genre. By playing in a recital setting, students will be exposed to a variety of repertoire and to other students playing similar compositions.

The theme for the 2012 Fall Festival is Contemporary Music, which may include Impressionistic selections.

Application Rules: Applications must be postmarked on or before October 12.

1. All NHMTA members, including student members, may send students to participate.

All teachers entering students will be required to monitor or provide written critiques. Responsibilities will be divided among teachers.

2. Non-members must pay a $45 non-member fee. This fee can be refunded if

teachers become a member of NHMTA before the postmarked entry deadline.

3. Student entry fee is $15 and non-refundable. 4. Entry Levels:
