2012 INDIANAPOLIS COLTS NFL DRAFT RELEASE GENERAL MANAGER RYAN GRIGSON TAKES THE REINS General Manager Ryan Grigson will conduct his first draft as a man- ager of the Indianapolis Colts after being hired by the team on Jan- uary 11. Grigson brings a long line of scouting and personnel experience that dates back to 1998. He came to the Colts following a nine-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, most recently as the director of player personnel from 2010-11. Grigson began his NFL scouting career as the national combine scout and area scout for the St. Louis Rams (1999-2003) and then joined the Eagles as a re- gional scout (2004-05) prior to being elevated as the team’s director of college scouting (2006-09). He was a pro scout for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in 1998 as well as an assistant coach for McPherson College that same year. Grigson made a stop with the Buffalo Destroyers (AFL) as the team’s player personnel coordinator/assistant coach before starting with the St. Louis Rams. As a college talent evaluator with Philadelphia, Grigson assisted in the draft selections of running back LeSean McCoy (2009), wide re- ceivers Jeremy Maclin (2009), DeSean Jackson (2008) and Jason Avant (2006), tight end Brent Celek (2007) and defensive tackle Trevor Laws (2008). Both Jackson (two) and McCoy (one) have been selected to the Pro Bowl. McCoy was the second leading rusher in the NFC this past season (1,309) while setting Eagles’ franchise records for overall touchdowns (20) and rushing touch- downs (17). During Grigson’s 13 years in the NFL, he has been part of teams that have made the playoffs on eight occasions, including three trips to the Super Bowl. Grigson’s pedigree in drafting will serve him well when finalizing this year’s draft class. On April 24, he revealed that the No. 1 overall choice will be Stan- ford quarterback Andrew Luck, solidifying a spot for the highly touted star to serve as the Colts’ next franchise quarterback. The two-time Heisman Trophy finalist left Stanford as the school’s most accurate passer and established a new team record for all- time touchdown passes (82). A fantastic start for Grigson and his inaugural class as Luck represents the first piece to the puzzle of an incoming 10-man rookie squad. 2012 NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE DRAFTRADIO CITY MUSIC HALL, NEW YORK CITY, APRIL 26-28

LUCK ON MY SIDEExcitement has been swirling around the Indianapolis Colts following the announcement from General Manager Ryan Grigson on Tuesday,April 24 that the team would officially be selecting quarterback Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall choice in the 2012 NFL Draft. The team’snext franchise quarterback holds a storied past at Stanford University and the organization is optimistic for a bright future with the Houston,Texas native.“The intangibles are off the chart,” said Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano. “You know (his) skill set, you’ve seen his body of work and he’sa gym rat. He’s a football junkie. He’s big, strong, and physical and he can make every throw out there. He’s a great leader in his own way.We all know the story about the USC game and him coming out at halftime and him doing what he did. We’ve got a great one for years tocome. It’s another piece of the puzzle that we feel really good about obviously.”Luck is a two-time Heisman Trophy Finalist (2010 and 2011) who left Stanford atop the record books in completion percentage (67 percent)and all-time touchdown passes (82). He finished his collegiate career having completed 713-of-1,064 passes for 9,430 yards, 82 touchdownsand 22 interceptions. Luck also showed great mobility escaping the pocket as his 957 rushing yards are the most ever gained by a Stanfordquarterback.Luck is the first Cardinal to amass over 10,000 yards in total offense, as his 10,387 yards rank sixth in Pac-12 history. In 38 career games,he was responsible for 89 touchdowns and compiled a 31-7 record as a starter, including a 24-5 mark in conference games. His 31 victoriesare the most a Stanford quarterback has recorded in a career. With Luck at the helm, Stanford spent 29 consecutive weeks in the AssociatedPress poll, including 22 consecutive weeks ranked in the Top 10. He has quarterbacked the Cardinal to an 8-3 record vs. Top 25 competitors, while playing under center for three of the most prolific offensive teams in school history. He helped Stanford amass 461 points in 2009 asa freshman and a school-record 524 points as a sophomore. The 2011 squad produced 561 points, the seventh-highest total in the nation.

Luck has thrown three or more touchdown passes 15 times in 38 gamesand led a prolific Stanford offense that has scored 40 or more points 17times with the quarterback in the starting lineup. Among active NCAA Foot-ball Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks, he ranked seventh in touchdownpasses, 11th in passing yardage, 16th in pass completions and 18th in passattempts. His winning percentage (.816) is the best in school history andranks second among active FBS passers.Last season, Luck was named the Walter Camp Football FoundationPlayer of the Year and won the Maxwell Award while adding All-Americahonors from The NFL Draft Report, American Football Coaches Associationand Walter Camp. He garnered All-Pac 12 Conference first-team accoladesand was chosen as the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.Career Passing StatisticsYear Att. Comp. From the team’s pre-draft press conference on April 18On his draft philosophy - “To get football players who love to playthe game. Guys you don’t have to worryabout when you’re not watching them.Guys that have talent. It’s really a blend. You’re dealing with human beings. Youcan’t just pick one type of player. You haveto sprinkle different types in all over theplace. At the end of the day they all needto love to play the game and have somelevel of talent that will help you win even-tually.”

On his feelings toward the upcoming draft - “I’m probably a little anxious. I kind of wish it was today. I’ve alwaysbeen able to channel that though. I call it healthy paranoia. I’ve toldour scouts that in the past. Even in Philadelphia. That’s how I’ve al-ways been. It kind of drives me. It’s fun too in a sick way. Every dayI wake up thinking about the draft. I wake up thinking about thisteam, I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about this teamand sometimes you don’t go back to bed. This is fun. What a greatopportunity and great job. To help build a team is a dream.”

MR. IRRELEVANTIn a note from the Associated Press, the Colts, with the first and lastpicks in the 2012 NFL Draft, are set to become the first non-expan-sion team since 1967 to start and end a draft. Past Mr.Irrelevant selections from the Colts include, offensive tackle TomCarr (1966), quarterback George Haffner (1965) and fullback BlairWeese (1959).The honor of Mr. Irrelevant was founded in 1976 by former BaltimoreColt, Paul Salata. The Mr. Irrelevant program has been run by theSalata family for the past 36 years, helping to raise money for vari-ous charities. With the title of Mr. Irrelevant comes a place of honorin Irrelevant Week, a week-long celebration of the final draft selec-tion in June in Newport Beach, California.
