We are now entering our 41st year of operation and still

going strong. We have a busy competition season planned

with several interstate training sessions and tournaments for

our Tournament Team. They had a very busy schedule last

year and this year promises to be a productive one with our

Junior Tournament players gaining experience over the past

year.

Our calendar of events has been updated for 2012 for all

dates that are relevant to training for the year. Make sure

you mark them in your diary.

Our club prides itself on the instruction of traditional

Taekwondo. For all our club members, development will

continue for the year with designated

classes focusing on self - defence and the

traditional aspects of the art.

ahrad Championships yet in 2011, which saw our Grand Master

Sung Soo Lee attend to help us celebrate 40 years of

Taekwondo Instruction. Mr. Lee was very impressed with

both our club spirit and the fact that everyone ‘had a go’

which made for a very dynamic day. He brought with him

a Gold, Silver & Bronze Jidokwan medal, which were

presented, to the three best overall players on the day.

We often lose sight of our goals as the year progresses,

remember, set your goals for the year and make sure you

succeed in fulfilling them. This one step - choosing goal

and sticking to it - changes everything. Nothing worthwhile

was achieved without hard work.

Special Black Belt training sessions will continue this

year for those progressing toward a Black Belt grading.

The 2011 Victorian Winter Open was held on the 4th and 5th of June at the Melbourne Netball and Hockey Centre. The only competitor to participate from Eagling's Taekwondo was myself, Brandon Servant. I entered the Open 74- 80kg Black Belt division and was coached by Ian Snape. The black belt competition started at 9am, my fight was early in the day but unfortunately I was unable to win the match.

My opponent was Benjamin Hartmann from Tan's Taekwondo in

Currumbin, Queensland. I led the match for the majority of the fight but due to a coaches protest conceded a spinning head kick in the final few

seconds which leveled the score. During the golden point round I injured my knee and lost the fight when my opponent scored a roundhouse kick to my flank.

Despite losing the match the day was an excellent learning experience, I had a great time and I would like to thank Ian Snape for taking the time to coach me and Mr. Eagling for his continued commitment to the tournament team. By Brandon Servant

21st August 2011, after being delayed at the Hobart Airport for 5 hours, the team landed in Melbourne too late to participate in the training session previously planned with coaches and competitors from Melbourne and South Australian clubs. Only Mr. Snape who had flown in the day before was able to attend the high performance session and put his coaching/mind games into practice. The Eagling’s Taekwondo team was under the expert guidance of Mr. Eagling and Mr. Ian Snape from a coaching perspective, and players included Brandon Servant, Holly Jacobson, Angela Cantwell and Sharon Lakoseljac.

The “friendly” MTC competition started early Sunday morning at the Aqua Duct in Box Hill. Approximately 100 competitors competed from affiliated Melbourne clubs as well as teams from South Australia and of course us from Tasmania.

Due to refereeing constraints and having 6 courts running non-stop for the competition, Mr. Eagling’s refereeing skills were utilised for 4 hours straight, while Mr. Snape was called from court to court to coach. Brandon’s coaching skills were also put to use for team members and other club’s competitors when he wasn’t competing himself. The competition was “round robin” so that each of our players had at least 2 fights and most matches were against more experienced players. Results were mixed with wins and losses, however all of us can say that the main goal of the trip – that of gaining more experience, getting more fights and having fun,
