    Say good-bye to winter and hello to spring and summer. Get up, go outside and get active. Tis issue o Splash! is yourguide to an ocean o un that awaits you here in Ocean City.

    Pick a park and go play with your children or grandchildren outdoors. You might want to visit Robin Park on RobinDrive to try out the new state o the art playground there. Whether you visit Robin Park or one o our other ne local

    parks, we encourage you to get active and be healthy while having un.

    Pick a park and go or a concert. I you like music, come to Sundaes in the Park at Northside Park at 6:00 p.m.Sundays starting July 8 or enjoy Concerts on the Beach each Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. starting on July 11. I you arelooking or some entertainment and a un time on Tursday evenings you should plan to attend Sunset Park Party

    Night at Sunset Park downtown at 7:00 p.m. or a concert on the bay starting on July 5. Or how about catching a FreeMovie on the Beach on Monday and Friday nights at dusk starting on June 25 at 27th Street. Details o these and otherevents this summer are available at www.ococean.com/sep.html or in this issue o Splash!

    Visit your avorite spot on the beach. Captain Butch Arbin and the entire Ocean City Beach Patrol staf have beenbusy preparing or the new swim season, which opens on Saturday, May 26. Guards will be on duty on the beach rom10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. rom opening day until Sunday, September 23. Tis issue o Splash! contains some importantadvice to help you and your amily have a sae, healthy and enjoyable beach season. Always remember to keep your

    eet in the sand until the guard is in the stand.

    Choose some camps and enjoy the un. Our summer camp schedule is brimming over with un choices or children.Our camp season opens the week o June 18 with Camp Horizon and Scamper Camp. We are pleased to announcethat we have added two new camps: a Kayak Fishing Camp and a Surng Camp.     SWIMMING LESSONS:Level I:The objective o Level I is to help participants eel comortable andsae in the water. Participants will learn to ully submerge theirace in the water. They will learn buoyancy and breath controlthrough supported foats and bubble blowing. Participants willbe taught water entry and exit, plus locomotion through thewater by supported kicking and alternating arm action.

    Level II:The objective o Level II is to give students success withundamental skills. Participants will learn to hold breath andully submerge head along with retrieving objects. Participantswill be oriented to deep water. They will learn to perorm theirfoats and glides unsupported and will also learn the basics orhythmic breathing. Flutter kicking and the back crawl armaction will be taught.Level III:The objective o Level III is to build on skills learned in Level II.Participants will learn to coordinate the ront and back crawl.They will learn the elementary backstroke and the undamentals

    o treading water, plus the rules or sae diving. Participants will also learn to retrieve objects with eyes open, jump intodeep water, may dive rom kneeling or compact positions andcontinue improving their breathing techniques.Level IV: The objective o Level IV is to develop condence in the strokeslearned and to improve other aquatic skills. Participants willincrease their endurance by swimming amiliar strokes orgreater distances than in Level III. The breaststroke, sidestroke,and turning at the wall will be introduced at this level.Participants may also learn deep water bobbing and divingrom stride or standing position.Level V: oered only in summer sessionThe objective o Level V is coordination and renement ostrokes. This is the nal level o the Ocean City Recreation andParks Departments Swimming Program. Participants will beintroduced to the butterfy, open turns, and the eet rst suracedive.
