Dear Mr. Meiser:

The Lower Swatara Township Athletic Association (LSTAA) has been providing competitive,safe, and enjoyable baseball and softball within our community for over 45 years. We would

like to express our sincere appreciation for enabling our association to use the Kunkel Field for

the past several years as one of our primary softball playing fields.

Our girls softball level continues to grow and has reached a point where we would like to make

some investments into the Kunkel Field in order to improve safety and playing conditions for our

softball players.

We recently met with Mr. Burgit to explore the possibility of making some needed investments.

He informed us that we need to seek the approval of the Operations Committee and SchoolBoard.

The improvements we are seeking are as follows:

•  Re-grade and level the first base line to improve a major safety concern in this area;

•  Extend the outfield approximately 15 feet by cutting out the sod in the outfield. This area

would then be filled with diamond-tex and provide the proper infield area behind the

 bases which are installed at 60 and 65 feet;

•  Re-design the field by “pushing” home plate out to create a safer distance in the backstop

area. Currently the home plate is too close to the fence and should be “pushed out.”

We at LSTAA realize these projects come at a price. LSTAA is proposing to purchase all the

needed diamond-tex and provide the labor and equipment to spread the diamond-tex around thenew infield area. We also will use our volunteer manpower to redo the bases and home plate

accordingly. We would simply ask for district approval and allow MASD personnel to do the re-

grading along first base side and use district equipment to make the sod cuts it the outfield.

Again, we sincerely appreciate and thank the Middletown Area School District for its

cooperation and use of the Kunkel Field over the past several years. We would like to continuethis partnership and offer our help in making this field safer and more practical for play at the

softball level. We await your response.

Sincerely,
