All-Edmond Wrestling 2013

When you're perfect, it's hard not to be namedWrestler of the Year. That's why the two undefeatedtriplets, Joel and Andrew Dixon are the 2012-13 Co-Wrestlers of the Year. Both Andrew and Joel won fivetournaments in addition to the state and regional tour-naments.

Lance is the third brother, and state champion as wellat that with just a single blemish on his record.

“Andrew and Joel are a blessing to have in our pro-gram. Not just for their superb wrestling ability, but alsofor their outstanding character,” North head coachAndrew Schneider stated. “The younger wrestlers lookup to them as role models and they always strive to putthe team first.

“Both wrestlers were integral parts of North's first-everDual State and State Tournament championships.Their classroom work also contributed to Edmond Northbeing named Academic State champions to completethe ‘trifecta’ for the 2012-13 season.”

Woodard won his secondstate championship atMemorial, making a mirac-ulous steal and winning tipin the waning seconds forthe triumph in March. Heplayed in state champi-onships in all three seasonswith one being a runner-up.Woodard lost only threegames he played in atMemorial and is the onlystarting player ever in theschool district two win apair of state titles. Jordan isa University of Oklahomasignee and averaged 15.4points and 6.4 assists pergame. He accomplished allthis in his senior seasonwhile overcoming a severehamstring injury.“It was really fun watch-

ing the maturation of hisleadership style,” saidMemorial head coachShane Cowherd. “Heturned into more andmore of a vocal leader. He’sa great kid, a super kid.He’s a very humble super-star.”

Senior Ashley Gibson ledthe Lady Antlers to thestate title scoring 13 pointsper game and picking up111 steals in her final sea-son. She was named MostValuable Player of thestate tournament and isan All-Stater. Ashley hasplayed four years for DeerCreek and will play colle-giately at Butler (Kan.).“She’s played so many

different roles on thisteam,” said Deer Creekhead coach TotsyManning. “She is a differ-ence-maker on the floorand has developed a 3-point shot, handles theball, she is great at takingit to the basket and canpost up. She is so versatileand could help any team.”

Goodin is the Class 5A state runner-up, winding up her high schoolcareer as an All-Stater before

entering Oklahoma City University thisfall.

“She won 15 high school tournamentsbefore leading our team to a state titlewith her runner-up performance atDornick (Hills, in Ardmore) in a winter-like, rainy, windy, mess,” said Deer Creekhead coach Glen Floyd. “She was anexcellent friend to her team and Ibelieve that the core beliefs of all of thefamilies of these girls are what made

them so successful.”Caroline won six tournaments this

spring and ended with a 76 stroke aver-age. She also graduated with honorswith a 4.0 GPA, helping lead the LadyAntlers to successive state academictitles with a team GPA of 3.97.

“These girls are what happens whenhard work, devotion to excellence andability combine,” Floyd added. “I amproud of all of them for all they havebecome.”

McGreevy is standing upon thispodium for the second consecu-tive year, earning All-Edmond

Player of the Year accolades after a vigor-ous effort to hold off Edmond North’s tal-ented Nick Heinen for the individualClass 6A state golf championship atKarsten Creek in Stillwater.

McGreevy birdied both playoff holes todispose of Norman North’s ThomasJohnson and Heinen respectively.

Max graduated this May earning All-State honors. He won 10 of the 44 tourna-ments (23 percent) he played in during

his high school career and 22 timesplaced in the top five.

“That is remarkable,” Edmond Santa Fehead coach Mike Stolz said of McGreevy’sconsistency in rugged 6A competition.

“He’s also really good at helping otherguys.

“He can’t stand to shoot over par. Hetold me his goal every day is to shoot paror better ... that’s his mindset.”

McGreevy was invited to play for theTeam USA junior squad in Japan lastyear and will attend the University ofOklahoma in August.

Roper never took his hand off the throttle; he justkept the gas on fighting for a state champi-onship all four years he was at Edmond North,

winning three, including his senior campaign wind-ing up a perfect 34-0.

“He has worked hard to improve his game everyyear,” said Edmond North head coach Dee AnnWallar. “He’s one of the best players I’ve had the priv-iledge to work with. He puts the team above himself.He could have won an individual title all four yearsbut wanted the team to be more competitive so hejumped up to No. 1 singles after winning at No. 2 sin-gles.”

Roper fell to Putnam North’s Chris Haworth in thetitle match, who is playing at Oklahoma State. Roperwill join him there next month.

season.“I’m really going to miss those two (including

Roper),” Wallar lauded. “She was a great leader. Wetook five girls into regionals and they never played ina state tournament before. Because of Ann’s leader-ship and pulling them together, she helped them getthrough the nerves and be successful.”

The Lady Huskies placed fourth as a team in thestate tournament.

Pepper won six tournaments this year and will takeher talents to the University of Oklahoma.

“He is one of the pitchers who werelied on to win district games and hedid just that by being our most consis-tent pitcher and going undefeated on astate-quarterfinalist team,” saidEdmond North head coach Karl King.

“His success on the field was also cou-pled with many achievements in theclassroom where he also demonstrateda very strong work ethic. His election tothe team Unity Council for the last twoyears also shows that his teammateslooked up to him as a leader and agood teammate.
