At Future Managers we understand that students, educators, trainers and organisations all seek education and training products and services that are accessible, relevant and constantly updated to meet the needs of a dynamic educational landscape in South Africa. In our 2013 catalogue you will find many reasons why Future Managers is in a unique position to meet your needs.
The process of converting our textbooks into eBooks has started! Colleges can now add a digital platform to their lecturing and choose from a growing range of newly converted eBooks. Although the range is currently still small, it will grow exponentially over the coming months. All our eBooks are available for iPhone®, iPad® as well as for Android™ and in Flash™ formats to cater for most tablets and other handheld devices as well as PCs.
This means lecturers can use the latest technology to enhance the lecturing experience.
The following were our guiding principles when we developed our eBook platform and template: • Functionalityacrossdevices• TheeBookmustbeasbandwidthfriendlyaspossible• Enrichmentmustaddrealvaluetolearning• Paymentmethodsmustsuittheinstitution• Itmustimprovethelecturingexperience
Our challenge is to get lecturers excited about eBooks and convince them to start using them in conjunction with the accompanying textbook! For more details, visit our eBooks section on our website or download the Future Managers App from the relevant app store on your tablet or smartphone.

This book focuses mainly on the first few years of a child’s life when the maximum benefit of adequate and appropriate stimulation can be gained. It deals with aspects of growth and development beginning in the womb. Other topics dealt with in the book are how learning occurs in the early years as well as inclusion and diversity. Our approach to this important subject has been to include as many practical tasks as possible to allow the NCV student to gain experience in the development of stimulating activities for children from birth to 6 years of age.

This title starts where our popular level 2 book left off. We claim that our level 2 Mathematical Literacy book is the “first ever” book not to feel like a maths book. This is the second. If you want your students to understand what they are learning because they can relate to the examples and enjoy the activities, then this is the book for your college.

This book is the epitome of fun hands-on learning. This is a well-thought-through book which is sensitive to gender, culture and diversity. It boasts an excellent integration of assessment standards and is accompanied by a comprehensive facilitator guide available for purchase in hard copy format.
Our language books for Level 3 have been developed to address the different workplace environments that face business studies and engineering studies students. Whereas the business studies book focuses on business language in the world of work, the engineering studies book offers relevant engineering terminology and practical examples making it uniquely suitable for engineering students. Both books cover the curriculum comprehensively, as well as offering the additional benefit of gaining skills such as writing memos, adverts, reports, CVs, minutes and setting meeting agendas. They also help students gain an insight into the wide range of communication forms used in the world of work, which will be invaluable for students embarking on their chosen career.

Just some of the screener’s comments which makes this book one of our best selling titles: “This book uses a good integration of content as well as theory and applied competence making it easy for student use. The clear diagrams and take note tips in the margin are useful as well as the appropriate language usage for level 3.”

NCV 4 Fundamentals
Our NCV 4 Language Hands-On Training books are student friendly; containing themes aimed at young adults. These easy to follow textbooks build on the foundations laid at levels 2 & 3. Should a lecturer have to simultaneously teach a group of Business Studies students as well as Engineering students, it should pose no problem as the page and activity numbering of both books are exactly the same. Examples and activities address the relevant vocational direction of the students. Whereas Business Studies students have to advertise items such as a computer, fast food, a surfboard or house sitting; Engineering students have to advertise a concrete mixer, angle grinder, plumbing kit, safety goggles and gloves!
LANGUAGE
The Life Orientation Computer Skills Hands-On Training book is written in easy, understandable English – perfect for English second language users. There are plenty of activities which are relevant to popular social media such as Facebook. All diagrams are extremely user-friendly including exact copies of the relevant screen or window on the computer. All activities are integrated with the Life Orientation Syllabus. It is now available in MS Office® 2003, 2007 and 2010.

Our Office Data Processing books are not only written according to the NCV subject guidelines, but are also accredited by the ICDL. What this means is that students completing the NCV Office Data Processing course will be fully equipped to write the ICDL examination.
The ICDL is an internationally recognised certificate of knowledge and proven competence and is based on an internationally accredited syllabus. The qualification has been devised to help candidates achieve the necessary level of knowledge and competence in various computer applications. A number of FET and HET institutions currently offer ICDL courses.

ThEFULLSOLUTION
Offering an ICDL course or preparing the NCV students to write the ICDL examination has never been easier. The ICDL has introduced a web-based interactive programme that supports both students and the lecturers during training and assists with preparation for the examinations. The “Full Solution” includes:
• Learning Platform• Automated Testing System• Management System
COST
Completing the ICDL certificate for NCV Office Data Processing students is now extremely cost effective!
Consider the following;• Textbooks:
Our NCV3 and NCV 4 textbooks are all ICDL accredited and therefore no additional learning material is required.• Skillslogbooks:
FET Colleges have the option of ordering an Office Data Processing/ICDL pack. This pack includes both the textbook and ICDL Skills logbook, meaning no additional costs to the student. See our pricelist for details.
• LearningPlatformThe Learning Platform to assist both lecturer and student is available to all ICDL Accredited FET Colleges.
• Automatedtests: Automated testing is an excellent means of preparation for the final exam. By using the simulated exercises on the Learning Platform and receiving immediate feedback the likelihood of rewriting the exam is dramatically reduced and therefore so are the costs.
Contact the ICDL for more information - www.icdl.org.za
BENEFITS
• No extra marking for lecturers;• Student weakness areas are apparent, allowing the lecturer to focus on those areas;• Very cost effective; • An internationally recognised certificate.

They are compiled in a user-orientated manner, and accompanied by a functional teacher’s guide to assist with lesson preparation, as well as work schedules that give advice on the tempo of the course. Afrikaans teachers will be delighted to know that many new Afrikaans terminology-related issues were successfully addressed in the Afrikaans edition.
The books also outline certain practical tasks that form part of the portfolio and the handy Questions and Model Answer section will assist both teachers and learners in preparing for forthcoming exams.

Collect Information to Support a Community Needs AssessmentLouise WhyteISBN 978-1920203276
“When your father or mother dies it is hard to believe that you can go on with your life. But I found you can. It was all because of a support group for teens where I met others who had also lost someone they love. Our group leader Angel helped us to heal. She listened and taught us to listen to each
other (and ourselves) in a special way. We started to feel better and get on with our lives.”
This is a quote from the book Someone I Love Died, authored by Heather Ferris, an independent writer, counsellor and trainer working in South Africa and Canada.
In 2005, after working in communities with women and training educators in the Northern Cape, Heather cofounded Khululeka, an organisation offering grief support for children and youth, in Cape Town. To this day Khululeka encourages and trains people to run support groups for bereaved children. Later, whilst working with AIDS orphans in Libode in the Eastern Cape, Heather realised the extent of children grieving and wrote Someone I Love Died in 2007 to share these experiences youth were having in their support groups, in the hope it would bring healing to a wider audience.
Someone I Love Died is currently available in isiXhosa, isiZulu, Afrikaans and English. Thuli said after reading it, “Yes, I have experienced lots of hope from those children who have lost their loved ones. They didn’t have hope, but when they met others and took out what was in their hearts they ended up knowing why they have a right to live and that was more than helpful!”
Soon after, teachers requested a book for younger children. Heather was working in Slangspruit KZN in 2009 and a young friend Mantombi read and named her next book, I Am Not Alone. In the story Mpilo loses his mother to AIDS and is supported by his grandparents. He learns that although he is sad, he also has happy days and he does feel better in time. Mantombi, who had lost both her own parents, also illustrated the accompanying workbook.
Another resource, Helping Hands Happy Hearts (developed during 2009), is a set of cards that adults can use to help children get involved with others again if they are feeling lonely. It includes healing exercises taught by Capacitar.org.

“A must have for every netballer.
The rules are brought to life
through this manual.”
Marlene Wagner (SA Protea Coach -
Silver Medalist World Cup 1995)
To become an umpire is not just a decision to take up a whistle. The difference between better and lesser umpires is passion. Once you have developed the passion to umpire, you will start developing the need to add value to the game instead of only influencing the outcome of the game.
Knowing and understanding the rules is of great importance. An umpire needs to attend rule discussions as often as they can; more than on an annual basis. In Malawi in 2006, I started to monitor Annie and advised her that she needed to read the rules every day. That is where umpiring starts; only once you know the rules by heart can you start with skills.
Unfortunately the difference between good umpires is not just about knowing the rules but also about skills. You have to be coached (monitored) to develop your skills. You have to accept that mistakes will be made and that you will have to work on various challenging aspects such as fitness so as to perfect your skills. You will have to accept criticism given by your mentor.
Then, of course, character plays an important role in the difference between umpires. When you umpire, your desire must be to earn the respect of the players and spectators. You never umpire for a team or some person but you umpire to add value to the game of netball.
Enjoy your umpiring career and may you be remembered as having enhanced the wonderful game of netball.
– Dr Hannette Brewer
DR HANNETTE BREWERDirector of Umpires: South Africa
The AuthorNext to playing for the South African Netball Team, being a Netball Umpire is the ultimate challenge. Having done both I came to the conclusion that the game of Netball can only improve if the standard of Umpiring also improves. It has become a passion to set myself on a course of self-improvement in developing my umpiring skills and sharing this with my fellow umpires, players and coaches.
