Keynote SpeakersSir David Veness - Honorary Professor of Terrorism Studies – Retired Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations in the Metropolitan Police

Sir David Veness served as Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Department of Safety & Security from its creation in 2005 until June 2009. This role carries responsibility for UN operations globally. Prior to this appointment, he was Assistant Commissioner (Specialist Operations) New Scotland Yard from 1994-2005. He joined the Metropolitan Police as a cadet in 1964 and as a constable in 1996. In the course of his police career he specialised in serious crime investigation, hostage negotiation and counter terrorism. David was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge (MA, LLM) and attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in 1990. David was awarded the Queen's Police Medal in 1994, a CBE in 2000, and was knighted in 2004.

Oscar Odom III – J.D., Ed.D.(c) ASA College Chair, Division of Criminal Justice , New York

Oscar Odom III is the Chairperson of the Criminal Justice Division at ASA College and serves as a Commissioner on the New York City Districting Commission of New York City as an appointee of Mayor Michael M. Bloomberg. Mr. Odom is the former First Deputy Sheriff Commissioner and Four (4) Star Chief of the New York City Sheriff’s Office. Also, a Retired New York City Police Detective (20 years). Mr. Odom has served several New York City Mayor's, Bloomberg, Giuliani and Dinkins. Mr. Odom has held several assignments in the New York City Police Department, Patrol Officer (73, 75, 77, 81 pcts), Police Academy Instructor, Intelligence Division, Career Criminal Investigation Unit and Juvenile Crime Squad (Fugitive Enforcement Division). Additionally, Mr. Odom has an academic career that expands over twenty years, former Chairman of the Criminal Justice Department at Katharine Gibbs School, Police Academy Academic Instructor, Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Mercy College, Adjunct Professor of Emergency & Disaster Management (Homeland Security) at the Metropolitan College Graduate School of Management and Facilitator of Perspectives on Profiling (Racial/Criminal) at the Simon Wiesenthal Tolerance Center. Mr. Odom earned his B.S. degree in Correction Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (1983), and Juris Doctorate degree from the City University of New York School of Law (1996), where he was Associate Editor of the Law Review and member of the Moot Court Team, and is currently completing his doctoral dissertation in education where he is a member of the President’s List and has a perfect/4.0 Grade Point Average at Capella University.

Bob Forsyth - Managing Director of MITIE: United Kingdom

With over 17 years’ experience in the security industry, Bob is a proven achiever at a high level. Bob was promoted to the position of Managing Director of MITIE’s security business in April 2010 after several notable achievements since joining the company in 2004, including his win of the prestigious MITIE new business award. Having successfully implemented the merger with Initial Security in the Southern region and developing a profitable part of the business, Bob has continuously worked towards expansion including the implementation of the response service, and has significantly contributed towards year on year growth. In June 2009, Bob initiated the launch of the business’ total security management ethos; to take an integrated risk-based approach to security, incorporating people, technology and consultancy services. Bob continues to move the business forward and has delivered record EBITA profit. He has increased business retention and launched new services lines including lone worker, void secure, employee screening, and security risk and business resilience. Under his leadership, MITIE’s total security management business has grown into an organisation with a turnover in excess of £280m.

Dermont Robinson - Detective Superintendent Counter Terrorism & Criminal Justice City of London Police

Dermont joined Sussex Police in 1992 serving in a number of roles including CID and Special Branch before being promoted to sergeant in 1997 where he continued to work mainly in intelligence and investigative roles. On promotion to Detective Inspector in 2002 he joined the City of London Police, with responsibility for surveillance and major proactive investigations before joining the City's Special Branch a year later where he was promoted to Detective Chief Inspector in 2004. Between 2007 & 2010 Dermont was seconded to the Association of Chief Police Officers coordinating policing activity across the Capital before returning to the City Police Special Branch. In 2012 he was promoted to Detective Superintendent with responsibility for Counter Terrorism and Administration of Justice.
