About the Adult Education Program
The Parent Teacher Auxiliary for the International School of Bangkok in Nichada Thani Thailand offers this program to our ISB community. Payments for the class will need to be made at the Community Activities Office (next to the Book Store and Health Center). Put exact cash in an envelope with your printed registration receipt and place in the drop box labeled Adult Education Program. CAO Office hours are Monday to Friday 7:00AM to 3:00PM and Saturday 9:00AM to 12:00PM. This box will be available during the online registration period from February 9th to February 18th. All payments must include a printout of your receipt to be properly allocated. Payments will need to be made for the exact amount in either cash or check payable to Kevin Sypolt (Parent Teacher Auxiliary). Any additional charges for materials are listed with the course and are to be paid directly to the teacher. Please contact the teacher directly if you are unable to attend since they do pay for all of the supplies themselves. Classes are subject to a minimum of 4 -‐ 5 students. If we are unable to meet this requirement you will be notified and your money refunded. Refunds will only be given in the event a course is cancelled due to lack of participants. Please remember that this is a volunteer run fundraiser for the International School of Bangkok. All of the continued support from teachers, students, and the ISB community is greatly appreciated. Funds raised from this program go directly to support the activities of your PTA, including grants supporting our students at ISB. LANGUAGE CLASSES
Beginner’s Thai Class Very popular class for the Adult Education Program! This series will be based on Beginners (Book 1) : Participants learn vocabularies, to say simple daily conversation, like calling a taxi, counting numbers and doing shopping, ordering food and much more. There is a possibility of an additional class on Monday/Wednesday at 2:30 or Tuesday/Thursday at 2:30 if needed. Instructor: Narisa Suksai – Previously a teacher at a Thai High School. She has been teaching Thai language classes for the Adult Ed program for over 10 years. COOKING CLASSES Israeli/Mediterranean Cooking Explore exotic Mediterranean Israeli cuisine. Being an expats for many years, we often find ourselves craving for our home country cuisine. This desire helps us to learn and improve our cooking skills. In this short culinary adventure, you will experience the exotic tastes and smells of rich Israeli cuisine which incorporates many foods traditionally eaten in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, and foods such as falafel, hummus, shakshouka, couscous, and za'atar are synonymous with Israeli cuisine. You will learn how to create wonderful dishes using the available local ingredients. Each class will have a dessert as well. Surprise... Dip Workshop Come and join us for an informal hands on class to make six delicious dips. You will be working in pairs and trying out the dips you make with salad and bread at the end of class. DANCE AND PHYSICAL FITNESS Salsa/Latin Dance Very Popular Class done in the ISB Dance Studio!! This fun and easy-going class will combine basic moves for complete beginners with more elaborate combinations for intermediate students. Beginners will learn basic steps and simple turns for lead and follow roles in Salsa, Merengue, and other Latin Dances. Intermediate students can learn further turns, steps and combinations, as well as 'Styling' moves. Nothing fancy, but a lot of fun! Expect great music and cultural highlights to be thrown into the 'Salsa Mix'! EVERYONE WELCOME - solo or pairs :-) Instructor: Dr. Nancy Le Nezet (worked previously with Jaleea Price) with Guest instructors. Nancy has been dancing salsa for 14 years and taught salsa classes in the UK, France, and Japan. Dates are Feb 28th, Mar 7th, Mar 14th, Mar 21st, Mar 28th, Apr 4, Apr 11th Time: 6:15PM to 7:15PM Location: ISB CC Building 2F Dance Studio #2 Cost for 7 Class Series: 2,400 baht Yoga Yin/Yang This is an introduction to the Yin style of yoga in combination with vinyasa flow in the yang style. Please bring water for after class, your mat, socks and a firm cushion. It’s also best to wear lightweight loose clothing. If you have blocks and belts for your yoga practice bring them as well. We begin class in the yin style of longer held poses, accessing the energy channels within and move onto sun salutations in the later part of the class. Instructor: Noelle Angell. I began to pursue my interest in yoga more seriously in 2001 leading to a teacher training course at a Bangkok Yoga studio and leading to RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance. I have attended workshops with notable teachers such as Sarah Powers and Judith Hanson Lasater. I have studied many different styles of yoga and as my personal practice has evolved so has the yoga I teach. I have taught yoga in Seoul, South Korea and Frankfurt, Germany as well as Bangkok. Latino Dance Morning class that will be an Introduction in Merengue, Bachata, ChaCha, Reggaeton, and Salsa. Working with musicality, basic steps and elements, lady and man styling, footwork and shines, and attitude in dance. Instructor: Alex Teodorescu is a Romanian dance teacher, performer and choreographer. I have been teaching, traveling and dancing around the world for the last 7 years. Since last year I am based in Bangkok where I presently teach Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha, Merengue, Reggaeton and I’m a Certified Zumba Fitness Instructor. He has also coached ISB varsity and BISAC teams over the past 3 years. A top level coach who is able to break it down for all levels of players. Students will work on footwork, position, speed of the ball, top-spin, slice, and control. Previous play experience is REQUIRED for this clinic. INTERIOR DECORATING AND CREATIVITY Interior Design This Interior Design course will be a three class seminar to take place over two consecutive weeks. I will introduce you to some of Bangkok’s best furniture and home décor resources. I will also introduce you to interior design and how to make the most of your Nichada home. Instructor: Daana York – I have lived here in Bangkok for over three years. Design has been an enjoyable hobby which I am very passionate about. I work on everything from painting to framing to custom window treatments. Everyone I have helped with their Interior Design needs has told me that I have an eye and talent that needs to be pursued professionally. Based on that need, I have opended my own interior home design service here in Nichada called Home Designs and Artistic Creations by Daana. Furniture Tour: Visit 2 popular, high quality furniture stores and meet the owners to tour each facility. Learn about Chinese, Thai and Burmese antiques and reproductions. These stores also offer a large selection of handmade baskets, and handcrafted and hand painted small home décor pieces. Date: Thursday Feb 28th Time: 9:00AM to 1:00PM Location: Meet at Regent 39/918 Soi 6 Chatachuk Tour: Go though the Chatachuk Market area where everything from jewelry and clothing to unlimited handcrafted furniture is sold. This market offers every type of possible home décor item including high quality baskets, lighting, beautiful quality porcelain items furniture, art, and many more. During this tour we will visit some of the best shops and highlights of the world’s largest weekend market! Date: Friday March 1st Time: 9:00AM to 1:00PM Location: Meet at Regent 39/918 Soi 6 Seminar w/Rug Information: This will teach students some basic, but very important foundation concepts of fundamental home design that will work for any style home. It will include a visit from a carpet specialist to help education everyone on the art of rug making and how to identify different styles and different qualities of handmade rugs. Floral Design Learn which exotic flowers you can use and how to combine them to create dramatic arrangements for special occasions, or just because you deserve a thing of beauty in your home. Instructor: Tipwam Smagpong Dates: Feb 28th, Mar 7th, Mar 14, Mar 21 Time: 9:00AM to 10:30AM Location: At student’s house Cost for 4 Class Series: 2,000 baht Additional Materials Fee paid directly to teacher: 300 - 400 baht per class per student Creative Art Class Create your own painting using acrylics on canvas. You don’t need any experience or talent, only the desire to paint. This is a relaxing, creative process during which you can create something you relate to and feel proud of. The emphasis is on the use of color and the emotional effect it has on the individual. We paint by using intuition and feeling, rather than technique and planning. Instructor: Lois Winter – Practicing artist working in Bangkok. I have taught and exhibited in South Africa, Switzerland, France, Turkey, and Thailand. I have taught ceramics for 20 years in South Africa and art for 15 years. I have an Open University Art History degree, plus numerous drawing and painting qualifications from UNISA and other institutions. Students will discuss requirements prior to class with instructor. Beaded Creations Learn the essentials to get started making your own beautiful beaded creations. I will show you how to work with tools and use basic beading supplies. During class, you will finish a necklace and gain the confidence to become a jewelry artist! Instructor: Jennifer Chambers –Has been a member of AWC since 2007 including spending time on the board. PTA Board for KIS International School in Bangkok as Treasurer from 2008 – 2010, prior to moving to Nichada Thani. Prior to Nichada, she lived in Sukhumvit area and learned about Bangkok, dining, and culture. Currently teaches jewelry making to AWC members. Creative Ceramics This is a basic course in ceramics with emphasis on hand building techniques, design, and creative development of clay objects. Pinch, coil, slab and press molding skills will be used along with new glazing and decorating techniques. Come to relax and enjoy working with your hands and exchanging ideas with your fellow classmates. Instructor: Trish Neubrand Art Teacher at ISB Elementary School. Teaching Kids to Keyboard (aka: Type!) This two hour session will provide tips on helping your children lean to keyboard. This will allow the student to be able to work more efficiently and effectively. One on one strategies will be provided as well as reviews of typing tutor software. This two hour class will use both demonstration and a question/answer diaqlogue to help you understand how to connect your favorite technologies from the home.
