Superlight high performance mountain bikes are nothing new for Merida, the Multivan Merida Biking Team have dominated the XC world for years on their carbon steads. But, now the engineers have turned their talents to road bikes, with impressive performance results in the lab, maybe the fact that this is called the “Team” bike may be a clue to our ambitions.

For instance the Sl ‘s BB stiffness measurement is an incredible 35% higher than that offered by a competitor’s product thanks to BB386 and our unique asymmetric chainstays and Double Cham-ber derived BB shell re-enforcing rib.

At the front end headtube stiffness is also of the highest order thanks to modern tapered steer-er forks and a massively oversized headtube.

The result? Awesome laser-accurate handling that allows capable riders to really push the lim-its in the descents.

Weight is where you might expect a modern no-expense spared race machine to be with a normal size frame (54 or 56cm) coming in at just 844g.

Could it be lighter? Yes it could – but not without compromising the stunning aesthetic and the hitherto unheard of levels of comfort /stiffness delivered by the frame and fork.

Merida was founded by engineers and engineers are famously risk averse – witness the Lifetime frame war-ranty (including race use) and a comprehensive crash replacement policy.

Heck, you would need to be in excess of 100kg (220llbs) to max out our recommended rider weight limit too!

The crowning glory to all of this high end race performance (i.e. minimal weight and high stiffness) is comfort.
