The M
aster Gardener P
rogram is a com
munity service
organization, designed to relay research-based horticulture inform
ation to the home gardener. T
his program
was developed by the U
niversity of C
alifornia Cooperative E
xtension to train interested people to help local gardeners diagnose plant problem
s and to assist home horticulturists in keeping
their plants healthy.
Certified M
aster Gardeners staff inform
ational booths at county fairs and local farm
er’s markets, host plant
clinics at comm
unity centers, appear on public access television, conduct w
orkshops at garden clubs and elem
entary schools, and develop comm
unity gardens.
Our inform
ation office is at Shasta C
ollege where
Master G
ardener volunteers answer phones and do
the research necessary to provide answers to all sorts
of horticultural and related questions. If they do not have an im
mediate answ
er, they will know
where to
get one based on the latest scientific research.
This project, is a fund-raiser for our association. T
he m
oney earned will be used to fund various com
munity
projects throughout our area.
