Forsomelifemustmellow,butforme,asIgetolder,theyearpassesmorequickly,thechangescomefaster,thechildrengetcuterandthegoodbyesarealwaysharder.Andthispastyearhasonlyreinforcedthoseimpressions.DuringMaggie’sfouryearshere,phenomenalistheonlywaytodescribeClara Bozievich and Bill Brock’sparticipationandcontributionstoourschool–justinthelasttwoyears,theyclockedover400hours!Claraheadedupourauctionfundraisertwoyearsinarow.Sheknewhowtodraweventhemostreticentparentsintothefrayandlaidthegroundworkforanewleveloforganizationthatwewillbeusingformanyyearstocome.Billgenerouslysharedhistalentsasanartistandmasterwoodworkerbytwicecreatingstunningpiecesforourraffleaswellasa

customfamilyportraitandotherartpieces.Onepiecewetreasurehangsonourschoolwall.BillcameinonedaytorecounthisstoriesofhisstayinavillageinZimbabwebringingthatprinttolifeforthechildren.Billalsosigneduptodomanyofourcarpentryprojectsandrepairjobsandwasalwaysreadytojumpinwhenweneededhim.HeandClara

setupourfirsteverwinetastingatMagenta’swithanencorethefollowingyearcreatingrareeventsforourlittlecommunity–adult-onlygatherings!Icouldgoonandon,butyougetthepicture–wewillmissthesetwo

badly!Maggie’sdailysweethugswillhardtolivewithout,too.

IrememberwithdelighthowBenwouldoftenclimbuponmylapduringgrouptimewhenhefirstentered.Hewassodarncute,howcouldIsayno!Hegrewoutofitquickly,butaspecialconnectionlingersstill,threeandhalfyearslaterwhichmakespartingsobittersweet.Wewilldearlymisshisparents,too–Kerry and Doug Boysen.Anothersuperborganizer,Kerryranourchildren’sprogramattheauctiontwiceandmadethatall-importantconnectionforuswiththeamazingKidspiritvolunteersandstaff.It’snowhardtoimaginethechildren’sprogramwithoutthem!KerryandDougalsovolunteeredincountlessotherwaysfromhelpinguswithlegaladvicetoworkingonourrecruitmentcommitteetopaintingwalls. IfIevercametoschooltiredandoutofsorts,itneverlastedlong.ZaiyawasalwaystheretogreetmeatthedoororshortlyafterIarrivedwithopenarmsandawarmhello.Beforelunchitwasoften“Hopeyouenjoyyourlunch!”andthenuponreenteringafterlunch,shecheerilyaskedmehowwasmylunch.Ofcourse,thiswasn’tjustforme,itwasforeveryone.Sheembodiedsunshine.NowI’llhavetomovetoArizona.Hermom,Andrea Myhre,wasanenergeticcontributor–especiallyinouroutdoorareahaulingwheelbarrowafterwheelbarrowofheavysoilevenintherainormovingsodandplantsoutofbeds,orrushingtothestoreinbetweenworktobringlumber

orsuppliesforaworkparty.Shewasalsoagreatsolicitorwithmanycommunityconnectionsandwhenweneededherhelpwithrecruitmentshesteppedupwithenthusiasm.WealwaysenjoyedseeingZaiya’sdad,Tomas Garza,everyWednesdaymorningandatourevents,too. FromCedric’stimewithus,Ilearnedhowtofaceacrisiswithcalmness–froma4-year-old.Evenatfour,whenhisbloodsugarwascriticallylow,hecomfortablywalkedmethroughwhatneededtobedone.HeneverpanickedandItriednottoshowmyalarm.Eventually,Ilearnedtobemorelikehim.Whenhestartedstayingforlunch,theotherchildrenwereabletowitnessachildgetpokedwithaneedledaily…withasmile.Itisremarkabletoseeanyoneatanyagetakesuchmattersinstride.Wearegratefultohisparents,Christian Petrovich and Dawn Anzinger,forhelpingattheauctionoverseeingalargegroupofrompersalleveninginourchildren’sprogrameveryyearthatCedric’sbeenwithusandwewillbegreatlyindebtedtohisdad,Christian.Hehasputinalotoftime,energyandexpertiseinouroutdoorarea–mowing,trimming,movingloadsofwoodchipsandsoil,layingdownlandscapeclothANDinstallingaveryimportantlongtermpiece:anundergroundirrigationsystemwithtimers.Sonomoreweeklysummerwateringvolunteers! Weareverygratefultoallofyouforgivingustheopportunitytobeapartofyourchildren’slivesandapartofyours.Thankyouforyourextraordinarygenerosity–youhavemadesomuchpossible.Wehopethatwecanmaintainourconnectionsastheyearsgoby.Thoughtheywillalsobetransitioningtonewschools,Cian Tavano, Mica Lohr, Zach Grapoli and Lucas Jungewillkeepustetheredtotheirfamiliesforatleastafewmoreyearswiththeirsiblings.Weexpecttoseeallofyouaroundhereeverynowandthen. childrenandtheirfamilies.Theymakecomingtoworkjoyful!ManythankstoMaria and Bianca foralltheydodailytomaintainourschool–nevermissingadayandneveracomplaintabouttheinconvenienthoursourmanyeveningmeetingsmeanforthem. Withsadnessandregret,wemustsaygoodbyetoMarjie Corbinasaregularstaffmember.Webroughtheronboardfullyexpectingthistobealongtermcommitment,buttheneedforextendedcareevaporated.Marjiespoileduswhileshewashere.Wecouldcountonhertopreparemanyartprojectsandclassroommaterials,repairandrefurbishclassroomequipment,refreshthepicturesinourgeographyandbiomefolders,recordourlessons,andsubforuswhenweneededher.OneofthebonusesofstayinglateafterthechildrenleftwastooverhearMarjie’sandConnor’songoingconversations.Shewouldalwayslistenwithinterestandthenafterapause,respectfullyofferherthoughts.AdeepthankyoutoMarjieandourwarmestwishesgowithher.
