Page 2 Bell campaign falls short, but... While the United Way Board of Directors never sets a goal for the bell-ringing campaign, the Board always
hopes to reach at least the amount raised the previous year. Alas, this year was an exception.
In the last two years, the campaign has brought in about $40,000 to go toward the grants to be awarded
the following month. But, this year, the holiday campaign brought in about $30,000. An additional boost
came from placing the well at the Central High School Christmas Tournament. Thanks to Tournament
Director Chad Bradley and Superintendent Dr. Desi Mayberry for allowing the United Way wishing well at the
event.
More than 1,000 volunteers signed up to ring
bells at five locations throughout St. Francois
County. Many thanks to every volunteer and every
donor!
THANKS OZARKS FEDERAL!
Ozarks Federal Savings and Loan Vice President Shelly Tate, right,
presents a check to United Way of St. Francois County Executive Director
Donna Hickman, center and Board President Kerry Glore. The bank is one
of the many businesses who choose to support United Way each year.
The United Way of St. Francois County thanks all those community-
minded business owners and managers who supported the organization
in 2013, either through a direct donation, offering payroll deduction to
employees, a fundraiser, giving employees time to ring the bell for
United Way during the holiday season or any other form of support. In
addition, the United Way thanks those businesses that welcomed us to
make a presentation to employees during the year. To schedule a
presentation in 2014, contact [email protected] or call 573-
760-8929.
Utility donations add up There’s no greater illustration of how a little can add up to “a lot”
when you give to United Way than in the money received by United Way
when utility customers add an amount to their bills. In 2013, the United
Way of St. Francois County received more than $1,300 through those
donations. In Bonne Terre, Desloge, Farmington and Park Hills, utility
customers can add any amount as a gift to United Way. They can choose
to give every month, or as often as they like. The money goes toward the
grants the United Way Board of Directors has pledged to award to
agencies in St. Francois County. Your gift will help the agencies funded by
United Way help our neighbors in 2014! So, that means the amount added to the utility bill stays in St.
Francois County — just like the money given by any individual to United Way at any time. Please consider
giving to United Way through your utility bill in 2014. It really does add up! If you pay online, just set up the
gift through your utility company. THANKS!
Get creative in 2014 Every year, the United Way of St. Francois County is honored by donations from new sources. Because
they want to help their communities, businesses and individuals come up with new ways to raise money. In
2013, Farmington Martial Arts chose to mark its 20th anniversary with a 5K Tough Run and gave the
proceeds to United Way. KFMO/B104 hosted a Night at the Water Park to benefit United Way. Choir
Directors Allyn Rizo, in North County and Kevin Nicoletti in Farmington wanted to showcase their talented
students and hosted Sing United asking those who attended to give to United Way. Royce Vessell previewed
the new Christmas in Lights and gave a portion of the admission to United Way. Other businesses give to
United Way when their employees take part in events like book sales, donut sales, wearing jeans and a
number of other unique fundraisers. United Way is grateful for all these fundraisers and the awareness
created by each of them. THANKS!
