2014 Fiscal Year / 2015 Campaign Annual Report
Giving Hearts Giving Hope…
The Schuylkill United Way’s 2015 Campaign, Giving Hearts Giving Hope, raised $1,016,000.00. As you look through this Annual Report for the 2015 Campaign/2014 Fiscal Year, we want you to know that those funds are already at work in Schuylkill County.
Our mission is simple: we are dedicated to providing funding, guidance, and encouragement to the 15 Partner Agencies that provide a
variety of programs and services to the residents of Schuylkill County for little to no charge.
The Partner Agencies we fund have a longstanding relationship with the community in Schuylkill County. The Schuylkill United Way began as the Community Chest in 1936. We are proud to say that a number of our original Partner Agencies from 1936 are still with us today.
Those agencies include Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, Crippled Children Society and the YMCA.
The Schuylkill United Way also facilitates a number of programs throughout the year. We are expanding annual donation drives, such as Stamp Out Hunger, where we work to help promote the USPS canned food collection drive. Stuff the Bus, our annual school supply drive,
grows each year and is held throughout the month of July. Our Day of Caring, held each May, matches donors and volunteers with community projects at our Partner Agencies. Most recently, we added our Kick Off Community Picnic, which celebrates the start of our
Campaign by inviting the community to celebrate with free food, games, and plenty of information on Partner Agency services.
Schuylkill United Way is facilitating PA 2-1-1 through the larger United Way networks in Pennsylvania. PA 2-1-1 will serve Schuylkill County by helping residents to connect to health and human service providers. The Schuylkill United Way also serves as the local administrator for the Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP), which provides funds to supplement and extend current available resources for emergency
needs including rent, food and energy assistance.
Through the generosity of the community, we are able to advocate for Schuylkill County residents through our fundraising, programming, and health and human service initiatives. We greatly appreciate those who give their valuable time and donate so selflessly. Our legacy of
community giving would not be possible without your continued support.
We thank you most sincerely!
Kelly K. Malone, Executive Director & Patrick Kane, President of the Board of Directors

2015 Campaign: Giving Hearts Giving Hope LIVE UNITED
Annual Campaign: All donations are raised from September to November through the generosity of corporate, employee and individual giving. The campaign helps donors to increase their knowledge and understanding of, access to and involvement with the Schuylkill United Way and its 15 Partner Agencies.
Capt. Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring: Announced in February of 2015, the Schuylkill United Way (SUW) Annual Day of Caring event will be renamed the Capt. Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring. The SUW Staff and Board of Directors is humbled at the privilege of honoring a man who put his service to his community and country above all else. The 1st Annual Capt. Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring will occur on Friday, May 8th 2015. A formal welcome and dedication will occur at 8:30am on May 8th at the Salvation Army in Pottsville. Volunteer projects will begin at locations across Schuylkill County after the welcome commences. As the com-munity volunteers in the name of Capt. Jones, the Gold Star Mothers and families who have lost sons and daughters at war will also be remembered.
Community Resource Guide: This guide is available to help assist individuals in times of transition or need. There are dozens of organizations listed that range in services from health and wellness to education.
Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP): The Schuylkill United Way serves as the local administrator for the FEMA program which provides funds to supplement and extend current available resources for emergency needs including rent, food and energy assistance. In recent years, funds have been greatly diminished. However, the money we do receive is distributed to five local organizations: Catholic Charities, Pottsville Salvation Army, Tamaqua Salvation Army, Schuylkill Women in Crisis, and Schuylkill Community Action.
Pacesetters Club: Pacesetters “set the pace” for the Annual Campaign. Members of the Pacesetters Club are individuals throughout Schuylkill County who contrib-ute a minimum of $500 towards the Annual Campaign. Levels of giving range from Copper ($500-$749) through Platinum ($2,500+) depending on contribution amount.
Prescription Assistance: The FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card (www.familywize.org) is available to anyone. Since the program launched in 2008, Schuylkill County residents have saved over $1,000,000 on the cost of prescriptions. The card is free, however, it only provides discounts on the medicine, not free medicine.
Stamp Out Hunger: The largest one-day food drive in the nation, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) holds the Stamp Out Hunger food drive every sec-ond Saturday in May. According to USPS, nearly 1,500 NALC branches in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands are involved. Letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with help from rural letter carriers, additional postal employees and volunteers, the drive has delivered more than one billion pounds of food in the past 20 years. The Schuylkill United Way is a proud partner in this food drive.
Stuff the Bus: A month long school supply drive held each July. In 2014, Stuff the Bus collected 1,200 backpacks, stuffed them with school supplies and distributed them to SUW Partner Agencies to be given to children in need in Schuylkill County.
In 2014, the Schuylkill United Way participated with the following organizations for the betterment of Schuylkill County: State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA), United Way of Pennsylvania Board of Directors, Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce: Nonprofit Committee Chair, Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP), Pottsville Kiwanis, Schuylkill County Youth Summit and Unit-ed Way of Pennsylvania Public Policy Committee.
