TODAY’S GENERALS STARTERRHP Victor Sanchez | RHP | #480 GS - 0-0, 0.00 ERA

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-0, 255 Born: 1/30/95 (19) in Rio Chico, VZRESIDES: Paez, Miranda, VZ College: N/AOBTAINED: Signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 12, 2011

Tonight’s Start: 19-year-old Victor Sanchez makes his home debut with the Generals today, in search of his first Double-A victory

vs. Mississippi: This is his first career start against the M-Braves.

Last Outing: Sanchez allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 5.0 innings in a no decision last Sunday in Jackson’s 5-3 loss to the Lookouts. Sanchez walked none and struck out 6 in his first Double-A start.

PERSONAL:... Victor David Sanchez Ranked as the No. 7 prospect, according to Baseball America for the Mariners going into the 2014. Signed for a reported $2.5m out of Venezuela in July of 2011, the Mariners took the somewhat unusual move of starting him in Short Season Everett without any complex experience despite him being one of the youngest players in stateside organized ball in 2012.

When Sanchez was 13 in 2008, he was the second-youngest player on Venezuela’s 14U COPABE Pan American championship team, a roster that included Rang-ers second baseman Rougned Odor and Blue Jays righthander Adonys Cardona. Sanchez provided one of the highlights of the tournament, throwing a five-inning no-hitter against Ecuador and missing a perfect game by a hit batsman.

SCOUTING REPORT: ... Sanchez’ fastball is generally in the 90-91 range, but he can dial it up to 95 at times. As a general rule he pitches down with that offering, and it has some nice heavy action at times. He also uses it up in the zone to get swings-and-misses when needed. His second best offering is the changeup, which is already a plus offering for him. He delivers the pitch with great velocity separation, deception and late fade, and it, too, has swing-and-miss value. He also mixes in a curve and slider, but neither are anything special currently. Right now Sanchez relies heavily on location and the fastball/changeup mix, but he’ll need to refine at least one of the breaking balls. The big right-hander has allowed only nine home runs in his 198 1/3 pro innings going into 2014, constantly pounding the lower part of the zone and getting a lot of weak contact.

2014 Season: ...Sanchez made his first Jackson start on 4/6@CHA at the age of 19 years 2 months and 7 days. Sanchez is the youngest player to make a start for Jackson. Taijuan Walker was 19 years, 7 months and 27 days when he made his first start on April 9, 2012.

2013 Season: ...Made 20 starts with Clinton…ranked 2nd in the Midwest League in ERA (2.78) and T2nd in WHIP (1.09), while also ranking amongst the league starters in fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings (2nd/10.24) and in fewest walks per 9.0 innings (3rd/1.43)…tossed a 9.0-inning no-hitter in 27th professional start on July 17 vs. Lansing (9.0,0,0,0,0,8,HB).

MORE ON NO HITTER: ... The nine-inning no-hitter on July 17, 2013 in his 27th professional start as Class A Clinton blanked visiting Lansing, 1-0. What made the performance even more memorable for Sanchez was that his mother had flown in from Caguas, Venezuela to watch what turned out to be his historic effort. It was the second time she’s seen him pitch on American soil and the first time in 2013. After plunking Dalton Pompey, the second hitter of the game, the 18-year-old right-hander retired 20 consecutive Lugnuts. A pair of errors by Clinton shortstop Ketel Marte in the eighth inning put the potential tying run on third base, but Sanchez (2-4) set down the final four batters to wrap up his gem. It was the 22nd no-hitter in the 77-year history of Clinton baseball and the seventh nine-inning gem. Current Jackson pitcher Jordan Shipers went the distance in the LumberKings’ last no-hitter on July 11, 2012.

2012 Season: Made 15 starts with Everett…limited opponents to a .223 (69x310) average…finished 2nd in Northwest League in innings pitched, while also ranking T2nd in strikeouts and 9th in ERA…recorded first career win on June 15 at Tri-City (6.0,2,1,1,2,4,2HB)…struck out season-high 8 batters on June 26 vs. Vancouver (6.0,5,1,1,2,8) and July 28 vs. Vancouver (6.0,6,5,3,0,8)…participated in the Mariners Instructional League
