HELP University / HELP AcademyScholarship Awards 2015Since its establishment in 1986, HELP has awarded many scholarships to encourage academicallyinclined Malaysian and international students who display leadership qualities to pursue tertiary education at the University. Many of these recipients have completed their courses and have embarked on successful careers.

HELP welcomes applications from high academic achievers for Scholarship and Study Awards from both new and continuing students.

In addition, HELP also provides Financial Assistance to students (registered HELP University/HELP Academy students only) who are facing financial di�culties but who are not eligible for scholarship awards based on academic achievements. The financial assistance will take the form of an interest-free study loan, which is grant-ed at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee and is intended to finance your studies at HELP.

HELP is pleased to announce the following Awards for year 2015.

Full Scholarship, Partial Scholarship and Study Awards

If you meet the minimum criteria stated, please:1. Complete a HELP Scholarship Application Form and attach certified copies of your academic results.2. New students are required to submit a HELP Application Form to apply for the chosen program and make the minimum payment of RM300 of the Student Application Fee.3. New students will submit the form and attachments to the Scholarships O�cer in the Registry before the specified deadline.4. For consideration by the Scholarship Committee in April and September of each year, scholarship applicants must be registered students of HELP University or HELP Academy.5. Submit the form to the Scholarship Committee in April and September of each year, scholarship forms will not be considered for selection.6. Your form will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee for consideration within 2 weeks after the closing date.7. The decisions of the Scholarship Committee will be announced by the Third week of May and October.

Important Note:1. As scholarship awards are limited and competitive, only candidates who meet the minimum criteria specified in this brochure are eligible to apply.2. Meeting the minimum criteria does not automatically guarantee the applicant a scholarship.3. All scholarship applications will be evaluated and short-listed by the Scholarship Awards Panel of HELP University/HELP Academy. HELP’s Scholarship Committee reserves the right to revise the criteria from time to time.

Financial Assistance – Study Loan(Applicable for registered HELP University/HELP Academy students only)

1. You are encouraged to obtain a copy of the study loan agreement from the Registry prior to submitting the application. You should read this document thoroughly to ensure that you understand the implications of HELP University’s Financial Assistance Scheme.

2. Complete a HELP Scholarship Application Form indicating clearly on the form that you are applying for financial assistance.

3. Attach a covering letter from your financial sponsor outlining all relevant circumstances together with a certified copy of his/her latest EA Form/salary slip.

4. Submit the application form to the Scholarships O�cer in the Registry before specified deadline.

5. Your form will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee for consideration within 2 weeks after the closing date. Factors taken into account will include your financial sponsor’s total house hold income and the number of dependants in the household.

6. Upon approval of your application, you and your legal guardian will be required to sign the study loan agreement.

7. The Financial Assistance Loan is not applicable for the UK Degree Transfer Program (Law).

External Scholarship

HELP-University of Queensland ScholarshipsHELP University invites applications for the above scholarships from students in the Department ofBusiness Studies taking the Bachelor of Business program and applying for final year study at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, University of Queensland in February/July 2015.

Value of ScholarshipThe scholarship values are at the discretion of HELP University. The scholarship will be disbursed viawaiver of tuition fee charged by The University of Queensland (UQ) as and when these fees becomedue and payable depending on course of study and subject selection at UQ with a mini-mum of 8subjects to be done.

Selection CriteriaThe selection of scholars will be based on the following criteria :1. Academic performance and achievement : Students must have minimum academic achievement of : i. 3.6 Grade Point Average over 16 or 17 specified units in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) program.

* Students must have an unconditional o�er od a place for the final year of the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business Management at UQ. At the point of application for the Scholarship, students must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) program at HELP University.

2. The financial background may be taken into consideration.

3. Applicants must possess motivation in setting goals and perseverance in pursuing their set goals

4. Applicants must possess leadership and motivation as demonstrated by contribution to the community and HELP University.

5. The successful applicant must be willing and committed to participate in activities that foster cross-cultural awareness within UQ and the local community.

Applicants must be able to substantiate these criteria in the Scholarship Application Form.

Please note that Applicants are responsiblein ensuring that they have su�cient funds to covertheir own travelarrangements, accommodation and living expenses.

Successful applicants will undertake the final year of their UQ degree course for the 2015/2016 academic year at the St Lucia campus.

Other Scholarships

A) Tan Sri Datuk Seri Haji Abdul Malek Haji Ahmad AwardThis prestigious scholarship is awarded in memory of the former President of the Court of Appeal, Tan Sri Datuk Haji Abdul Malek bin Haji Ahmad.

Tan Sri Abdul Malek, Barrister-at-Law, was called to the English Bar of the Inner Temple in November 1965. He began his career in the Judicial Legal Service as a Magistrate in Kuala Lumpur and subsequently served in various positions such as Deputy Public Prosecutor, President of the Sessions Court, Senior President of the Sessions Court and Deputy Parliamentary Draftsman in Kangar, Melaka, Kuantan, Butterworth, Kota Bharu, Penang, Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.

At 40, Tan Sri Datuk Haji Abdul Malek bin Haji Ahmad was one of the youngest judges to be elevated to the High Court Bench. On 1 December 1995 he was elevated as a Court of Appeal Judge and on 1 May 1999 he was appointed a Judge of the Federal Court. Tan Sri Datuk Haji Abdul Malek bin Haji Ahmad was appointed President of the Court of Appeal on 12 July 2004.

The Bar Council Malaysia in welcoming the appointment said: Justice Malek Ahmad has in his many years on the Bench demonstrated the right judicial qualities and temper-ament. He has exhibited judicial independence and integrity, and enjoys widespread respect from the Bar and those who are familiar with the functioning of the judiciary in Malaysia.

“His proven ability, reputation, standing, seniority and experience (all of which are criteria which the Bar consist-ently advocates to be relevant to judicial appointments and promotions) make him well suited for this important position. It remains for him in the years to come to draw on these qualities in introducing the necessary changes and improvements to the system in a way that will restore public confidence in the judiciary. This appointment augurs well for the future of the judicial system in Malaysia.”

In 2005, Tan Sri Datuk Haji Abdul Malek made history by being the first and only Malaysian to be appointed an Honorary Overseas Bencher of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, London.

The Faculty of Law and Government is honoured to recognise the significant contributions made by Tan Sri Abdul Malek Ahmad by establishing the Tan Sri Abdul Malek Award.

The ScholarshipThe award is a scholarship covering full Year 2 tuition fees of the UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law).

The CriteriaTo eligible for this scholarship, a student must meet the following requirements:i) A registered student of HELP under the UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law).ii) Completed Year 1 studies in the UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law) at HELP.iii) Is continuing his/her second year Law studies at HELPiv) Possesses the highest academic standing/performance among the student cohort of the year.

The ConditionThe scholarship recipient:i) Must complete Year 2 Law studies at HELPii) Does not hold any other form of scholarship or bursaryiii) Must not hold any other scholarship or bursary while he/she is enjoying the benefits of this scholarshipiv) Does not engage in any activity that will result in suspension/expulsion from the course/university

Sports Scholarship

In line with the holistic approach that HELP University adopts, students will be rewarded withscholarships for their sports achievements garnered during the course of their studies at theUniversity. These scholarships serve to instil and cultivate a culture of active participation insports to develop leadership and organizational skills, balanced with good academic performance.

Duration of Award : 1 yearEligibility : Students enrolled in any program oofered at HELP University and who have completed the required level/subjects at HELP University.Conditions : Sports Excellence

Candidates should have:i) Actively promoted and participated in sports and other extracurricular activitiesii) Exhibited a high level of initiative in organising and managing extracurricular activitiesiii) Shown proof of outstanding and exceptional leadership qualitiesiv) Attained recognition for various achievements within HELP University and externallyv) Displayed a high level of leadership capability as demonstrated by contribution to the HELP University community

Other achievements which are considered are: securing a�liation of their sport clubs to the respective national sports bodies, and successfully participating in MAPCU Tournaments, HELP Annual Sports Carnival, British Undergraduates Games, ASCPA Games and invitational tournaments organized by other colleges and/or sport organizations.

The Sun and the Malaysian Association of Private Colleges & Universities (MAPCU) Scholarship Programs o�ers scholarships in the form of full tuition fee waiver to deserving students to pursuediploma or degree courses at 18 local private colleges.

b) THE PRINCIPAL'S LIST SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

The Principal's List Scholarships are awarded based on the recommendation of the School Principaland on the SPM, STPM or UEC results attained. Forecast results are acceptable. Students who areinterested to apply for these scholarships can obtain application forms from the counselling teacher. After completing the form, students can submit the forms to the counselling teacher for the recommendation of the School Principal. Subsequently, these forms should be returned to HELP University for processing and confirmation of scholarship awards.

Selected schools only will be eligible for the Principal's List Scholarship Award. Kindly refer to your school counsellor or Principal for further information.

c) STAR EDUCATION FUND

HELP contributes 5 full-tuition scholarships (each of 4 years’ duration) to the Star Education Fund forthe following HELP degree programs:

e) SCHOOL ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS (SASA)

These are targeted at student leaders with outstanding leadership qualities and sound academicperformance. These scholarships are awarded to encourage holistic, all-rounded achievers amongst school students in line with HELP’s education philosophy.

The criteria are:i) Candidates must exhibit exemplary and outstanding leadership in the school.ii) Candidates should attain strong academic results in the school term examinations.iii) Candidates should have a strong recommendation from the School Principal.

Based on the recommendation of the school, candidates who fulfil the stipulated criteria will be short-listed to attend an interview at HELP in early September/October, and the results will be finalised by the end of September/October.

f) SIN CHEW DAILY EDUCATION FUND

The HELP-MIC Scholarship is a collaborative initiative between the HELP Group of Colleges and the Higher Education Bureau, the National MIC Youth that provides deserving Indian youths in Malaysia opportunities to further their studies in higher education.

The scholarship is awarded fully or partially, covering tuition fees depending on the type of course and qualifications of the applicants.

h) HELP-CHINESE INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship program is open to all Chinese Independent Secondary School Senior Middle Year 3students sitting for their Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) in 2014.

The CISS Scholarships are o�ered in recognition of the invaluable contribution of the CISS towardshuman capital development in the country, and in celebration of the close working relationship between the CISS and the HELP Group of institutions.

Scholarship Award:• 25% Year 1 tuition fee waiver for all undergraduate and diploma programs o�ered by HELP University / HELP College of Arts and Technology / HELP Academy.• 30% tuition fee waiver for continuing Year 2 & 3 (where applicable) on condition that students attain a minimum 2.5 CGPA in the preceding year

Terms and Conditions

1) The scholarship specified herein are open to CISS students sitting for exams in 2014 for admission to HELP in the 2015 academic year.

2) The scholarship shall be reviewed yearly; attainment of a minimum 2.5 CGPA (or equivalent) is required to be eligible for continuation of the scholarship for the following year.

3) Applicants must fulfil the specific entry requirements of the program applied for to be eligible for the scholarship.

4) Applicants may apply for the scholarship based on the school’s trial examination results, and the scholarship will be confirmed when the actual UEC examination results are produced.

5) This scholarship is only applicable to HELP University degree programs. For HELP Academy degree programs (University of Derby 3+0 Programmes and University of London International Programmes) the scholarship scheme is 30% for Year 1 only.
