Graduation RequirementsTo earn a diploma from Pacific Grove High School, a student must earn a minimum of 230 units of credit.

170 credits must be in the required subjects listed below:

A.40 credits (4 years) of English

B. 40 credits (4 years) of Social Science:10 credits Geography or Honors Social Studies 10 credits World History/Geography10 credits U.S. History 10 credits Government & Economics

C.20 credits (2 years) of Science(1 year of Life Science and1 year of Physical Science)

D. 20 credits (2 years) of Mathematics (This must include Integrated Math 1 and Integrated Math II)

E. 20 credits (2 years) of Physical Education (Grades 9 & 10)

F. 10 credits (1 year) of Fine Arts – OR - Foreign Language

G. 10 credits (1 year) of Health/Computers (each = ½ year)

H. 10 credits (1 year) of Career Technical Education OR

10 credits (1 year) additional UC “A-G” course

I. 60 credits of electives

J. Pass the High School Exit Exam

K. Perform 48 hours of community service

University of California (UC) Entrance Requirements:Fifteen courses will be taken during grades 9 – 12.Students who complete 11 A-G courses by the end of their junior year

with a 3.0 GPA (weighted with up to eight semesters of honor-levelcourses) and take the SAT or ACT with writing will be entitled to athorough review of their application.

Applicants meeting these requirements and who rank top 9% of class willbe guaranteed admission to at least one UC campus (not necessarilycampus of their choice).

Applicants are no longer required to submit SAT Subject Tests (thoughsome majors may require a specific subject test such as Engineeringor Science).

In addition, applicants can add an SAT Subject Test to UC Application.

•Combination of either Reasoning Test (SAT) or A.C.T. with writing. •SAT Subject Test scores may be considered in the evaluation of your application, but they no longer will be required for most majors.

AVID’s focus is on improving Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading

AVID students must take four years of math at PGHS and be dedicated to meet UC a-g requirements
