Junyi Ding, Senior Recruiting Manager, Teach for China

Graduated from South China University of Technology, Junyi joined GE Global Commercial Leadership Program and served in various positions including sales, digital marketing and product management. She has accomplished million-dollar sales tasks and executed several digital programs. During college, she founded Students’ in Free Enterprise, now called Entactus, aiming at helping the disadvantaged groups. She also served as secretary for Lions Clubs International foundation as chief secretary in China. To her, a warm smile from kid means more than a million sales. This year, she resigned from her job in GE and joined Teach for China executive team, hoping to bring more positive impact to the team and offer more help to the children in the remote places.

Qiujie Dong, Consultant, Accenture

Qiujie has been working as an information and analytics strategy consultant in Accenture since she graduated from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011. In addition of being a data geek, she is also a passionate organizer and volunteer both in non-government organization and social entrepreneur like FYSE, KANGYUN, Light of Hope, etc. She paid on-the-spot visits to poor families in the extremely poverty areas in Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi and published investigating reports with ten-thousand characters, raised donation helping more than seventy children go back to school. She is now taking the responsibility of the account manager of CSR part, committing to expand the cooperative relationship of Accenture and Youchange. To establish a social enterprise aimed at solving poor children education issue in China is her career dream.

Xianwei Dai, President, The Light-of-Love Public Welfare Development Center

Xianwei started to engage in projects related to public welfare since 2010 when he was a college student in China Pharmaceutical University. He then was involved in rural education and medication security for 3 years. Graduated in 2012, he founded the public organization called "the light-of-love public welfare development center" in Nanjing Yuhuatai District. He devoted himself in providing health management services for the community and doing research for elder patients with chronic diseases. Joint with the social organizations, medical universities, pharmaceutical companies and the civil affairs and health departments in the government, Xianwei’s organization established a "community health management model" to help improve residents' sense of self-health management. Xianwei has gained a great amount of experience from his practice of the community health management in the community.

Jie Gao, President, Benshan Social Work Center

Jie began her journey as a social worker from 2008, after Wen-Chuan earthquake. In 2010, she decided to focus on hospice care, about giving people access to what they need so they will have the best possible quality of life during a difficult time. In 2012, Jie founded Benshan Social Work Center in Nanjing, and has been working as a full-time social worker since then. “Let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves.” Benshan provides dignity by understanding, peace by kind, calm by Professional skill. Benshan has received various awards including The First Public Demonstration Project (2012, Nanjing) and Annual Top Venture Capital Project (2013, Nanjing ), Jie was also selected as The Star of Volunteers (2013, Nanjing) and The Best Social Worker (2014, Nanjing).

Lang Gao, Senior Research Assistant, International Food Policy Research Institute

Lang is carving her way towards people in the developing world through researches on agricultural economics. Prior to joining IFPRI she did her MPA with a concentration on Agricultural & Development Economics at Cornell University, and Bachelor degree in Economics at Renmin University of China. Her enthusiasm goes for poverty, inequality and related socioeconomic issues. Her life experience from rural area to city has allowed her of the empathy for people who are suffering from poverty and inequality, as well as the social responsibility to make a difference. This is what has brought her to the northernmost pristine forests to explore a sustainable development solution for the Ewenki people, and then to East Zambia to develop marketing strategies for a nonprofit business that benefits both local farmers and the ecosystem, and now to IFPRI. Things have changed as time goes by, but not her dream to find a way back to the people left behind.

Yuan Gu, Photographer for NGOs

Yuan is a journalist and photographer. He was a lecturer in university and later founded a private non-enterprise organization, dedicating to create photographics for public welfare organization. He served in the Li Jiacheng foundation, Qianhe community foundation, and Gypsophila youth development center.

Jiao Hu, Project Director, CAPE

Jiao is a member of China House core team, currently staying in Nairobi, Kenya. She helps Chinese companies organize Corporate Social Responsibility projects. In the same time, she is running China House public space. Through organizing Meetup and sharing she has been trying to bridge Chinese and Africans, helping Chinese understand and adapt to Africa better. She is also the Meetup Project Director in CAPE. Together with teammates, she has initiated and organized over 150 Meetup in around 50 cities around the world. The Meetup topics include social innovation, education, entrepreneurship, psychology and so on. The multi-field communication platform has encouraged actions and innovation.

Hanzhi Hu, College Student, Beijing Normal University, B.S. in Social Work

In 2013, she studied in the University of Manchester as an exchange student and was greatly inspired by the vast contrast between the development of the communities in China and the UK and started to regard communities as a potential way for solving social issues. After returned to China, she devoted much effort in investigating the current condition of the communities in city and rural areas. During 2014, she volunteered in the Included Program of Chinese Social Welfare Foundation where she led group work for the migrant children in the community. Right now, she is working on a research about the reformation in the Lugu Community in Beijing, expecting to find the feasible pattern for Chinese community development.

Nan Hao, Founder, Zhuoming Disaster Information and Service Center

A dentist of seven-year professional experience, Nan Hao is equally devoted to the field of Disaster Relief, then further into the general industry of Chinese NGO as non-governmental unit since the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake. Nan chose to intervene the procedure of disaster aid through means of information management, which was almost in lacuna in 2008, and is now growing both technically and structurally with Nan as a principle contributor. Nan and his team Zhuoming are now recognized as precise and dependable in the field. He is also committee member of China Asset for Disaster Relief, and consultor for Humanitarian Aid Network of CFPA.

Wanjing Hong, Co-founder,Beijing YFZ toy library

Wanjing is a diligent and thrifty mother who co-founded the first toy library in Beijing, which loans toys to families with low annual fee. Free Toys accompany the happy growth of kids, is fully recycled, and reduce costs for parents. Toy library is a community-based, government supported program that has been popular all over the world for 50 years but not found in China before YFZ was established. YFZ also created Toy Truck, a service that deliveries toys all over Beijing to the people who live far away from the toy stores. YFZ tries to use social outcome to measure its colleagues’ effort in order to repay their hard work, which finally hopes to change the low salary system for Chinese Charity workers. Winter is still, but seed is strong.

Shuang Ju, General Secretary, Beijing Elite Volunteers Association

Shuang Ju graduated from Nanjing University, majoring in human resource management. She was the co-founder of “Pure Heart” in Jiangsu province, the first environmental protection association for youth in Taizhou, Jiangsu province. It promotes public welfare environmental protection, mainly through carrying out environmental education curriculum for primary and middle school students. After graduating from university, Shuang worked in Chinese Red Cross Foundation and China Siyuan Foundation For Poverty Alleviation. She initiated Beijing Elite Volunteers Association, called on the white-collars to use their own professional ability to serve the society. In 2011, Shuang played a key role in appealing for the cancellation of Hukou restrictions, which directly contributed to the birth of the national policy to enable migrant workers' children to take the college entrance exams in the cities where their parents work and live.

Jian Lin, Co-Founder, YiView Media for Social Innovation

Jian Lin is the Co-Founder and Producer of YiView Media for Social Innovation, the CEO of Hangzhou Shadow Culture Co., Ltd, a member in the 1024 Startups Plan supported by Hangzhou Yinxinggu Capital, and a storyteller in Youthlogy-story Sharing. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Business Administration (Entrepreneurship Management) by School of Management Zhejiang University. In 2012, after traveling, viewing and thinking about his dream in Europe for 6 months, he got back to China with unlimited passion in filming and social innovation, which turned him into a producer to be and social innovator to be. He is now devoted to finding and spreading more social innovations with great potential to grow, searching a better way to view the world.

Jing Ling, Executive Director, Horizon Center of Youth Entrepreneurship for Society

She is a person who wants to make a difference. After graduation from university, Jing became a partner of Horizon Center of Youth Entrepreneurship for Society (YES), instead of being a government officer. She has been working on all kinds of projects to support the social engagement of Chinese youth, supporting students’ infancy social service projects, organizing social activities for white collar. As a YESer, she keeps doing things such as giving speech to spread good ideas, developing new project for youth leadership, and learning innovation ideas to support youth’s action. Now she is leading a new project named honeybee initiative, and developing a youth community for youth supporting with gathering social resource. She thinks that everything is possible; we can believe in ourselves that we can make the society better.

Jane Liu, the founder of Happy Family Center

Born in Shandong province, Liu went to Wuhan Industry University received her MA degree in Beijing Technology University. After an early retirement from a power supply bureau, she now focuses on public welfare. She had a dream of fireflies when she was 12 years old. she dreamed that she could lead children in dysfunctional family to walk out of the dark childhood. she has held this dream for about 29 years. She never gave it up. After being a volunteer for about 9 years, she finally registered the Social Work Center of Happy Family in Civil Affair Bureau successfully on Oct. 17, 2013. Thus her dream of firefly came true with good timing and with support of a group of committed people. They have absorbed experts in China to our Center. They are devoted to pass the light of love, in hope that many people could join them and become the channel of light and love. They hope that children will grow up happily and families will harvest happiness.

Ziyi Lu, the University of Alberta, Major in Political Science and East Asian Studies

Comes from Zhejiang, Ziyi just finished her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and East Asian Studies at the University of Alberta this spring. She also studied in China Foreign Affairs University, Tsinghua University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and University of Exeter as exchange student in the past four years. As a social innovation enthusiast and education reform follower, she and her friends initiated and organized a voluntary teaching activity in their hometown in order to facilitate knowledge and exchange experience among the local teenagers. Now Ziyi is enjoying her gap year and willing to learn more about social innovation and education reform in China.

Lijun Ma, Project Manager, Teach for China

During her college study in East China Normal University, Lijun volunteered in various social projects including small animal protection, caring for children with special needs, teaching at the schools for continuing education and children of migrant workers. She determined to concentrate on education problems in the rural area and joined ‘Teach for China’ in 2010. In the following two years, Lijun was first a teacher at a village in Yunnan province. But besides teaching, she also worked on projects such as building library, promoting reading, supporting students extracurricular activities to improve students’ overall capabilities. Lijun continued to work in Yunnan as a project manager to train and recruit new teachers at rural area for another two years.

Panpan Ma, Project Inspector, Beijing Global Village Environmental Education Center

Graduated from Sichuan Academy of Social Science, Master in Agricultural Economic Management. Panpan is a rural development professional with a concentration in poverty alleviation in remote, ethnic-minority, religious and poor areas. She has over 3 years of working experience in local NGO, with strong background and skills in applying participatory methods to implement rural community development and capacity building projects. She has been involved in many projects focusing on natural resource management, community development fund, marketing capacity building and post-disaster reconstruction. She was born to be a rural community worker with eternal passion. Now she returns to her hometown and devotes herself to promote rural community development via participatory theory and methods.

Sheng Pan, Project Manager, Cooperative & Enterprise Department and Xinjiang Program Office of Heifer China

Graduated from Sichuan Agricultural University, major in Preventive Veterinary, Sheng has been working for Heifer International China Program since 2006. He worked at several departments in Heifer China including Yunnan & Guizhou Program Office, Training Department, Xinjiang Program Office, and Cooperative & Enterprise Department. Sheng gained rich experiences in rural development as a project manager at Yunnan & Guizhou and Xinjiang Program Office. Sheng was in charge of capacity building for staff and project partners on Heifer Project Model when working at Training Department. Now he is exploring agriculture product developing and helping small farmers better linking to market at Cooperative & Enterprise Department.

Sissi Tang, Founder, ‘Little Cosmo Studio’

Sissi holds a BA degree in 'Media and Cultural Studies' and a minor in ‘American Studies’ from Lancaster University in the UK. After graduated in 2010, Sissi returned to her motherland-China for a year, participating in a teaching fellowship in rural China with ’Teach For China’. She has been working with an arts project association the ‘Swiss Arts Council Prohelvita’ and has provided branding, cultural background consulting and designing for worldwide arts projects. In 2013, she worked as a documentary director sponsored by the ‘Libenshife Special Needs School’ in Germany and the ‘Beijing Arts Fund’ in China. In December 2013, she established the ‘Little Cosmo Studio’. The LCS is a non-profit organization that promotes and develops knowledge and understandings between Netherlands/Germany, China and Europe–Asia region in the area of contemporary art and creative art by holding art workshops, exhibitions, art resident projects and art education programs that focus on public welfare and leading cultural society.

Xiaona She, Co-founder, Doudou Travel

Xiaona is the co-founder of Doudou Travel. Xiaona involved in many social projects during her college studies and gradually she became an organizer from a volunteer. After graduation, Xiaona served in a scientific and technological venture park. In four years, she worked extensively with venture capital firms and hundreds of newly found companies. Such abundant experience provided her with profound understanding of business administration and further passion for entrepreneurship. Xiaona loves travelling and she learnt and investigated many social organization during her travels. In 2014, Xiaona founded Doudou Travel, focusing on providing customized travel plans for minority people.

Chongxi Xiang, City Chapter, FYSE

After graduation Chongxi went to Helsinki University for a gap year. She further obtained an MBA degree at Edinburgh Napier university. Chongxi started her career in telecom industry in Beijing, developing business and government relationships in various kinds of projects. It was an occasional opportunity that she got inspired at a seminar given by “Teaching for China” while she was getting part-time degree in Applied psychology at Peking University. Years later, Chongxi moved to Chengdu due to job change and became a volunteer at FYSE. Now she is officially the first City Chapter of FYSE Chengdu, in charge of annual social female entrepreneur leadership conference in Chengdu.

Xianfeng Xu, Manager, Liangshan Handa Social Work Center

After graduated from public health department of Qinghai University in 2005, Xianfeng has been working for the leprosy project for more than 9 years. Her team has worked on the projects related to the prevention of disability, community development, public awareness education, community hygiene, community children nutrition improvement and education supporting by leveraging the various resources from the community and society. Her team aims at eliminating the discrimination from the society to the Pal (person affected by leprosy) and their family members, and help them build self-confidence and personal development. Their hope is to have a world without leprosy at last. Xianfeng also joined the organization of Liangshan NGOs Union in 2014. As a member of the committee, she contributed to the establishment and development of the 20 NGOs in Liangshan.

Meng Wei, Entrepreneur, PP Rental Car

Meng is working in a hi-tech startup called PP Rental Car. By offering peer-to-peer car sharing services, PP Rental Car wants to cultivate a smart solution for urban transportation. Previously Meng is a management consultant in Accenture Greater China team. As the earliest advocate of sharing economy in China, she founded Sharing Economy Association, to propose media coverage, interview sharing economy startups, and encourage more users to get involved in sharing lifestyle. Meanwhile, as the lead of CAPE Beijing, she is also committed to building local hi-tech entrepreneur community in Beijing.

Jicheng Wu, Project Manager, “Food Safety Information Transparency”

Jicheng joined SHFDA after graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong university. He is currently working at Shanghai Biao Ma information technology co., LTD. In 2014 he founded the "food safety information transparency", a public transmission project dedicated to promoting enterprise information transparency on its food supply chain and to prevent “economic motivated adulteration” (EMA) caused by food safety risks. Jicheng and his team is seeking NGOs, public figures and famous entrepreneurs to promote the project.

Ziqi Wu, Undergraduate Student in Ludong University, Head of Research, Zhanjiang Past Club

Ziqi was born in Canton, a subtropical area. Now he is studying at Ludong University, north China, majoring in history. He is interested in the interaction between the individuals, and the local and national development. In college, as the director of the literature study club, he proposed and practiced Robert’s Rules of Order to reinforce the democratic procedure of the club. He also actively joined in the field work researches, audited the People’s Congress in Zhanjiang City and involved in other NGO programmes. For now, he is focusing on a project of local culture conservation. His team collects data from the disappearing old streets, historical buildings, historical evolvement, especially the residents’ oral histories. With this research project, Ziqi hopes to build connections between our young generation and our older generation, and promote culture inheritance, so that people can have a better understanding of the community we are living in.

Ruoxi Wu, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Texas A&M University

Ruoxi is from Changsha, Hunan. He is currently working on research projects of water quality monitoring in drinking water distribution system. He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University in the major of civil engineering. His research interests are: environmental microbiology, biosensor, and water quality monitoring. Ruoxi served as the director of Tongji Green Road Association, and the captain of Shanghai Greencamp during his undergraduate study. With his friends from the college student environmental organizations, he initiated the “Green Seeds Project”, which has built up a network for young environmental professionals in China. Green Seeds Project provides professional and financial support for college environmental research projects, and organizes online course series for environmental NGOs. Ruoxi was the lecturer for the Water Quality Monitoring online course.

Yi Wang, Assistant Professor, Indiana University Fairbanks School of Public Health

Yi is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at Indiana University (IU) Fairbanks School of Public Health. Broadly, his research focuses on the adverse effects of environmental exposure on human health. Specifically, he has expertise in air pollution, heavy metals and climate change. He was on the executive team of GYOUTH, a Boston-based non-profit-organization focusing on youth development. He is currently a faculty advisor of China Philanthropy Leadership Initiative at IU Lily Family School of Philanthropy. While he has research expertise in health and environment, he also incorporates critical thinking into his undergraduate and graduate teaching. He is a faculty member of the “Gateway to Graduation” Community of Critical Thinking Practice at IU. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a business development manager for the Department of International Cooperation at Shanghai Pharmaceutical (Group) Company.

Peng Zhang, Co-founder of Na+ Communication Limited.

He is taking in charge of the Creative Department and the business development in United States. Currently he is in the master program of Northeastern University in Boston, and his concentration is organizational communication and social media. He owns rich experience in communication study and advertising Industry. Before the graduate program, he had worked in Ogilvy&Mather Advertising and Interone China. He had led to provide branding communication services for CANYOU, CAPE and EDUA etc. As the supervisor of Na+, he lead Na+social media including Facebook, Weibo, Wechat and blog as primary channels to promote programs. Now he initiated Na+!N program, which dedicated to discover a sustainable business model for NGO and CSR.

Xinyu Zhang, Programme Officer, Beijing Cultural Development Center for Rural Women (BCDC)

Xinyu has been a volunteer helping disabled and left-behind children since 2005. She established and managed the first parents-children reading together programme (for low-income families of urban area) of Anhui province in 2008. From 2009, as a graduate student of University of Southern California, Xinyu began to work with low-income families with multiple ethnical and cultural backgrounds. In 2012, she decided to come back to China and became a front-line field worker in a grass-root NGO which concerns women’s issues in China. In 2014, Xinyu is going to start her new venture in the university. Her goal is to a policy maker and strategy planner to promote women’s rights and benefits.

Chen Zhu, User Experience Designer

Chen Zhu studied in psychology from 2011 to 2014 in Zhejiang University. He worked as a User Experience Designer after graduation in IT companies, such as Alibaba and Tencent. He used to be socially disaffected, who keeps complaining about the ugly side of our society. However, he realized that complaining wouldn’t have any impact on improving the society. As a designer, he learned lots of cases of social innovation and felt he can make some real change to the society by figuring out a practical solution. He hopes to solve problems of our society with Designing Thinking and Lean Startup practice. He is currently applying voice recognition technology to facilitate communication between healthy people and the deaf-mute. The product is called "the voice of heart", an application for smart phones. This product has been downloaded by more than 9000 deaf-mutes with 700+ active users daily. It is his dream to help the vulnerable groups to get equitable living with others with the help of practical technologies.

Shuying Zhao, Senior Project Manager, Tencent Foundation

Full time professional for public interest and great lover for food; had internship in CCTV and Phoenix TV and worked for Marketing Department for Commercial Products of BAIDU. Out of love toward public interest, she came all the way from Beijing to Shenzhen to join in Tencent Foundation. Always embracing curiosity in and enthusiasm for social innovation, she believes that it is the pragmatism and professionalism power the course of public interest. Shuying devotes herself to promoting public interest on internet, and developing creative and open platform for this great deeds.

Juno Zhang, Secretary of mainland China national representative to International Association of Volunteer Efforts.

I am currently based in Republic of Palau for a state youth camp coordination. 2010 China Youth Climate-change Action Network, 2011 Beijing Communist Youth League International Committee, 2013 European Chamber of Commerce, the experience in NGOs with different structure leads me to focus on the establishment of volunteer network and right protection regarding volunteer. Embracing the changes and be a good will hunter.

Yihong Gu, Project Director, China Foundation for Disabled Persons

A master's degree in MBA, in April 2009 to join the China foundation for disabled persons, as an international cooperation project director, the main responsibility for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan foreign exchange, project cooperation, training, etc. Responsible for more than 20 projects, design and organize the three year training of "public fundraising, promoting and communication and project management" targeted at personnel serving disabled persons, five year training of "improving the leadership and executive ability for charity organizations". The theme of these training is to improve the ability of the staff for disabled persons to raise fund, promote the idea and manage the project so as to raise the leadership level and overall strength. Staff from 20 plus provinces have participated in these trainings.
