Filmmakers Michael Nathanson and John Salcido present a collective body of award-winning work, beginning with a program of three acclaimed shorts – from Michael’s starring role in the Oscar-nominated Time Freak (directed by Andrew Bowler), through John Salcido’s audience favorite Cataplexy, to the darkly funny and daring This Is Ellen, all of which have been showcased previously at the Stony Brook Film Festival. The event will culminate in the screening of their latest collaboration, Tribute, a dark comedy that explores loss, love and obsession. Michael and John discuss the creative process of each film and how the meeting of two successful filmmaking teams, brought together through the Stony Brook Film Festival, resulted in the creation of Tribute, their most ambitious work to date.
Funded and Executive Produced by Stony Brook sponsor Joe Campolo (Campolo, Middleton & McCormick LLC) and his producing partner Joe Zepf, Tribute represents the evolution of two talented filmmakers who became one team, blending their comic voices to create a surprising and bold new film.
A Q&A will follow the screening of Tribute.

Directed by Erik Poppe. Written by Erik Poppe, Harald Rosenløw-Eeg, Kirsten Sheridan. With Juliette Binoche (The English Patient), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), Lauryn Canny.
Rebecca (Juliette Binoche) is one of the world’s top war photojournalists, capturing dangerous and chilling images in the most dire landscapes, all in an effort to shed light on the real cost of modern war. But she’s also a wife and mother, leaving behind a husband and two young daughters every time she travels to a new combat zone. Director Erik Poppe covered war conflicts himself for many years as a photographer for Reuters and other media. With its crackling tension and compelling authenticity, 1,000 Times Good Night reflects the director’s own experiences in this dangerous field.
Produced by Finn Gjerdrum, Stein B. Kvae. Edited by Sofia Lindgren. Director of Photography: John Christian Rosenlund. A Paradox and Zentropa International Sweden production. From Film Movement.
