THE ROAD TRAVELLED- TRIPARTITE VLMI milestones

1. SADC. Ministerial meeting, 2009, Swakopmund, NamibiaApproved the tripartite vehicle load management standards and policies [Nairobi VLM workshop resolutions]

2. COMESA Ministerial meeting in Djibouti, in 2009, Approved the Tripartite vehicle load management standards and policies. [Nairobi VLM workshop resolutions]

3. EAC. The EAC load control act was agreed upon by the council of ministers of partner states in February 2012 and subsequently debated and passed by the East Africa Legislative Assembly as The EAC Vehicle Load Control Act 2013. The bill now is awaiting the signature by all EAC partner states.

4. TRIPARTITE> VLM STRATEGY AND IMPLEMENTATION PLAN. Gaborone, Botswana 12 November 2014. adopted for recommendation to Ministers

The overall strategic objective is to facilitate the development of a more competitive, integrated and liberalised regional road transport market in the Tripartite region.  The project purpose is to develop and implement harmonised road transport policies, laws, regulations and standards for efficient cross border road transport and transit networks, transport and logistics services, systems and procedures in the Tripartite region.  The expected Key Results are:  Result 1: Tripartite Vehicle Load Management Strategy Implemented. Result 2: Tripartite transport registers and information platform operationalResult 3: Harmonised Tripartite vehicle regulations and standards implementedResult 4: Efficiency of regional transport corridors improved

• TRIPARTITE VLMI STRATEGIC PLAN WILL PROVIDE FRAMEWORK FOR COORDINATION AND SYNCHRONISATION OF NATIONAL ACTIONS

• SIGNING OF TRIPARTITE VLM MoU WILL LEGALLY BIND AND COMMIT MEMBER STATES TO COMMON POLICIES, STANDARDS, PLANS AND PROGRAMMES.
