Mission StatementThe mission of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Lin-

coln University shall be to provide National Collegiate Athletics Asso-ciation (NCAA) Division II programs for men and women that are equally characterized by excellence. The primary philosophy of the Department of Athletics is that our staff and program develop and hold the concept of the student-athlete at the highest level of signifi-cance. This important standard must be encouraged and supported and never compromised, thus emphasizing to the student-athlete the importance of not only obtaining a degree, but also in reaching full academic and athletic potential.

The Intercollegiate Athletic program shall reflect due regard for the athletic traditions of Lincoln University, as well as future promise. The program shall fall within Lincoln’s abilities to provide appropriate facili-ties, along with the location, allows Lincoln to schedule conveniently and competitively and fall within financial capabilities of Lincoln Uni-versity to fund adequately. The goal of the Department of Athletics is consistent with the core mission of the university: to provide excel-lent educational opportunities for a diverse student population. Our student-athletes will be viewed as students first, and only then as athletes. The department will focus on producing graduates who are successful, well-rounded and prepared to make positive contributions to society.

Academic achievement in the classroom, together with the devel-opment of character, individual and team skills, the will to win and a sense of fair play and sportsmanship in athletic competition deter-mines distinction in intercollegiate athletics programs. Such distinc-tion is a source of pride and enthusiasm for Lincoln University, among its constituent groups including students, faculty and staff, alumni, community and friends at all levels of interest.

The Department of Athletics will strive to be a leader in areas of ethics, non-discrimination, diversity and authentic fiscal integrity throughout the Lincoln University campus, the state of Missouri and the country. At the same time, student-athletes must be given the greatest opportunity possible to strive for the highest athletic standards through the best preparation, motivation and support.

Jason Hall was originally built in 1958. Over the years, an addition was made to the front of the building, along with several other minor renovations.

The first phase of the Jason Hall renovation took place with an installation of a new HVAC system, a new basketball court and bleacher system. In 2008, the second phase addressed safety issues within the build-ing, such as updating the sprinkler system. The Physical Education department received a new office com-plex, complete with private offices and a conference room. New audio/visual equipment was also installed in the PE classrooms. The coaches' offices were also renovated to allow for more privacy. The locker rooms were completely redone and a new weight room with state-of-the-art equipment was constructed. The restrooms, ticket booth and concessions area were also remodeled. Finally, a new Daktronics scoreboard was installed in the gym to allow fans the chance to see up to the second player points and other stats.

After engineering the MIAA’s biggest turn-around last season, Nicole Collier enters her fourth season as the head coach of the Lincoln women’s basketball team in 2015-16.

In 2014-15, Collier led the Blue Tigers to a seven-win improvement, taking a program that won two games the year before into the MIAA Women’s Basketball Championship. Lincoln went 12-14 last year with four of those losses coming in the game’s final minute. Three Blue Tigers earned All-MIAA honors as Lincoln made its third postseason appearance in the past four years. Lincoln also did very well in the classroom, with 10 Blue Tigers earning a spot on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

In her first year on the job, Collier led the team to 11 wins and its second-consecu-tive berth in the MIAA Women’s Basketball Championship tournament. The season was highlighted by an appearance on the MIAA Network, where Lincoln defeated a Northeastern State team that was receiving votes in the national coaches poll, 54-49. The RiverHawks averaged the fewest turnovers per game in NCAA Division II entering that game, but Collier’s squad forced 25 takeaways with 17 steals.

Under Collier’s guidance, six Blue Tigers have earned All-MIAA recognition, includ-ing third team selection Arriana Walker, who became the first Lincoln player to lead the conference in steals in back-to-back seasons. The others are Freddie Sims, Jennifer Rosado, Kate Frazier, Hunter Yoakum and Kelsey Williams, who was also the recipient of one of the MIAA’s Scholar Athlete Awards.

The team’s success in 2014-15 led to Collier being named the assistant coach of the USA Sports Events Division II Select Team, which will play a series of games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil in August. Two of Collier’s players, Williams and Yoakum, were also invited to play on that all-star team.

Collier spent three seasons as Lincoln’s assistant coach before being elevated to the head coaching position beginning in 2012-13. Over the past four years, Collier has helped Lincoln transition from playing in the Heartland Conference to playing in the MIAA. After posting a 2-24 overall record, including a 1-21 league mark, in the Blue Tigers’ first season back in the MIAA (2010-11), Collier helped guide Lincoln to 15-13 mark last season and an 83-77 win over No. 12 Pittsburg State in the first round of the conference tournament.

The 15 wins tied for the second-most in program history. Additionally, Lincoln won eight MIAA games, the most league wins in a season ever by a Blue Tiger team.

With Collier as an assistant coach, the Blue Tigers posted 12 or more wins twice in three years. In 2011-12, Lincoln defeated two nationally-ranked teams, including beating Pittsburg State for the first postseason win in pro-gram history. A vital part of Lincoln’s recruiting process, Collier has helped develop a team that was an eight-point loss away (to Emporia State, 68-60) from playing for a berth in the NCAA tournament in the MIAA Championship game.

Two of the players coached by Collier earned All-MIAA honors following the 2011-12 campaign, including Vivian Essuon, who was the only playing in the league to finish in the top five in both scoring and rebounding. Essuon was an All-MIAA First Team honoree while Arriana Walker earned All-Defensive Team and Honorable Mention awards.

Before joining the Blue Tigers in 2009, Collier served as an assistant coach with Central Missouri from 2004-2009. At UCM, working with head coach Dave Slifer, Collier helped lead the Jennies to two NCAA Regional appear-ances and five-straight seasons of 14 or more victories. The Jennies defeated five nationally ranked opponents in that span and made the MIAA tournament field each season.

In addition to serving as an assistant at Central Missouri and Lincoln, Collier spent two seasons playing at Missouri Western before graduating in 2003. She was an all-region and all-conference player with the Griffons, ultimately leading Missouri Western a No. 1 national ranking during each season. Dur-ing the 2001-02 season, she led MWSU to an MIAA title and for 2002-03 she served as a team captain. In October of 2015, Collier was inducted into the MWSU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Prior to transferring to Missouri Western, Collier began her collegiate career playing at Jefferson College where, as a freshman, she led the program to its first-ever berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament. Collier also led the team back to the tournament as a sophomore, guiding Jef-ferson to a third-place finish. Collier was a two-time All-American at Jefferson and, in 2009, was the first athlete inducted into the Jefferson College Hall of Fame.

Collier has an undergraduate degree in physical education and a master’s in exercise science and sport administration. She and her husband, Terry, cur-rently reside in Holts Summit with their daughter, Reese.

Alex Wiggs

Assistant Coach3rd Season at LU

3rd Season Overall

Alex Wiggs begins his third season as Lincoln’s assistant women’s basketball coach in 2015-16.

In 2014-15, Wiggs helped engineer one of the biggest turnarounds in the MIAA, taking a team that had only won two conference games the year before back into the postseason. The Blue Tigers went 12-14 that season, with four of those losses coming in the game’s final minute, and qualified for the MIAA Women’s Basketball Championship tournament for the third time in the past four years.

Wiggs joined Lincoln after spending three years as an assistant coach at Moberly Area Community College. He was most recently a member of the Greyhounds’ women’s basket-ball staff, where he helped the team compile a two-year record of 40-22 after the program had gone 7-24 the previous year. Wiggs helped the team break a 32-year record for scor-ing defense in 2013, as the Greyhounds gave up just 48.5 points per game.

In 2013, the Greyhounds ranked 15th nationally in opponents field goal percentage (.331), 24th in steals (12.6 per game) and 34th in blocked shots (3.7 per game). Thanks to that impressive defense, MACC went 14-1 at home during the 2012-13 season and appeared in the National Junior College Athletic Association Top 25 poll for the first time since 2009.

Four players coached by Wiggs over the past two season earned NJCAA All-Region 16 hon-ors while two more were honorable mention selections. Wiggs coached 13 players who later signed with four-year colleges, the most a coach has had in his or her first two years in program history. Wiggs helped MACC achieve finishes of third and second in the NJCAA Region 16 and coached two players who are now on NCAA Division I rosters.

Wiggs assisted in organizing and scheduling travel, recruiting, strength and conditioning training and scouting as well as providing players with individual instruction. In addition to helping with game strategy and being an on-floor coach, Wiggs oversaw the team’s aca-demic progress and, over the past two years, helped 18 student athletes earn cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or higher; nine student athletes earn a spot on the Dean’s List with 3.5 or better averages; and six student athletes selected to the President’s List with perfect 4.0 grade point averages.

Before taking over as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Moberly, Wiggs served on the Greyhounds’ men’s basketball staff from August 2010-July 2011. Wiggs helped plan game strategy, scouted opponents and worked as a recruiter for the Greyhounds in addi-tion to his work as an on-floor coach. Wiggs coached two all-region honorees during his lone season with the team and led the Greyhounds to the NJCAA Region 16 semifinals.

Wiggs graduated from John Brown University in 2010 and earned a master’s degree in 2012.

New Rules for 2015-16

In the final minute of the fourth quarter, teams will be able to advance the ball to the frontcourt following a timeout after

a made basket.

Women's basketball games will now consist of four, 10-minute quarters.

Players will be awarded two free throws after the fifth team foul of each quarter.

Lincoln's games will have a different look in 2015-16. In June, the NCAA voted to make several big changes to its rules for women's basketball, with the biggest being a format change from playing two, 20-minute halves to playing four, 10-minute quarters.

Below is a summary of some of the other major changes:

Fouls- Teams will now reach the double bonus on the fifth team foul of each quarter. One-and-ones will no longer be awarded.

- Fouls will reset at the start of each quarter. If a team reaches the bonus in the fourth quarter, however, it will remain in the bonus for any overtime periods.

Advancing the Ball- In the final 59.9 seconds of the fourth quarter, and in any overtime periods, teams will be allowed to advance the ball to the frontcourt following a timeout immediately after a made basket.

- Teams also will be allowed to advance the ball to the frontcourt after securing the ball from a rebound or a turnover.

10-Second Backcourt Exceptions- Teams will no longer receive a new 10-second backcourt count when a throw-in results from the following: • The ball is deflected out of bounds by the defense • There is a held ball and the arrow favors the offensive team • A technical foul is called on the offensive team while the ball is still in the backcourt.

Timeouts- Each team now begins the game with one full timeout and three 30-second timeouts. Teams will only be allowed to carry two of the three 30-second timeouts over to the second half.

- Media timeouts will occur at the five-minute mark of each quarter. If a team takes a timeout prior to the media timeout being called, it will count as both a team timeout and a media timeout.

Bands and Amplified Music- Bands or amplified music may now be played during any dead ball situation. Previously, such music was only allowed during timeouts and at halftime.

John Moseley enters his second season as the head men’s basketball coach at Lincoln University and his first as the program's interim athletic director.

Moseley joined Lincoln after spending the previous four years at North Caro-lina Central University, including the last three as the team’s associate head coach. Working with head coach LeVelle Moton, Moseley helped lead the Eagles to a 28-6 record, tying the program record for wins in a season, and both the regular season and tournament Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships. NCCU earned a No. 14 seed in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, where the Eagles fell in the second round to No. 3 Iowa State.

Moseley brings 10 years of NCAA Division I experience with him to Lincoln. A 1998 graduate of East Carolina University, Moseley returned to his alma mater in 2008 to serve as the program’s Director of Basketball Operations. In 2009, Moseley was promoted to assistant basketball coach, serving as the recruiting organizers. In both of his years with the Pirates, ECU posted double digit wins.

Prior to coaching at East Carolina, Moseley was an assistant coach at Winston-Salem State University in 2007-08, where helped lead the team to its most Division I victories in program history. Before that, Moseley made a one-year stop at Wright State University, working as an administrative assistant on a Raiders team that won Horizon League regular season and tournament championships.

Moseley’s teams have enjoyed success at every one of his stops, and he has proven he can win at multiple levels of competition. Moseley was the head bas-ketball coach at Warren County High in Warrenton, N.C. from 2004-06, leading the program to its first state championship in 23 years.

Moseley has a bachelor’s degree in science, exercise and sport science and a master’s degree in education and athletic administration, both from from East Carolina University. Moseley and his wife, Crystal, have a daughter, Jillian.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2015-16 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE

Since 2003, few teams in any sport have achieved the level of success enjoyed by the Lincoln women’s track & field team. The Blue Tigers continued the dynasty in spring of 2014, when Lincoln won the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field national title. Winners of 11 total national championships over the past 12 years, including five-straight NCAA Division II outdoor titles from 2003-2007, the Blue Tiger track & field program was honored in 2013 by being inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

Lincoln has established itself as one of the top track & field programs in all of NCAA Division II, having finished in the top three at every outdoor championship meet since 2003. That includes a special 2012 season in which both the Lincoln men and women finished as the national runners-up at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. No team in the MIAA has come close to matching what the LU women have done on the track, as the Blue Tigers have won eight conference indoor and outdoor championship meets since 2010.

The Lincoln men's golf team has also experienced the feeling of winning a championship recently, as the Blue Tigers have won the past two PGA Minority Collegiate Championship Division II tournaments. An annual golf tournament sponsored by the PGA and open to all HBCU men's golf programs, Lincoln posted wire-to-wire victories at the championship in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, Blake Lammers continued the tradition by becoming the individual champion at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship.

Over the past four years, 10 of Lincoln's 14 athletic programs have qualified for some form of postseason competition. In 2011-12, the LU women's basketball team came within eight points of playing in the MIAA tournament championship game. In 2013, Twishana Williams became the only female runner in the MIAA to earn All-American honors. The Blue Tiger softball team, which had an athlete selected as an academic all-American in 2013, and the LU tennis team have also qualified for the MIAA championship tournament over the past three seasons while, in 2012-13, Cedric Ridle of the LU men's basketball team was the MIAA's scoring champion.

The women's track & field team poses with its 2014 championship trophy at a rally in Jefferson City.

Blake Lammers won the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship in 2015.

Dan Carr joined the staff at Lincoln as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations in October of 2011. He is in his fifth year as a member of the Blue Tiger athletic department.

Carr serves as the primary me-dia contact for all 12 of Lincoln’s Division II teams, and is respon-sible for the writing, design and editing of all media guides and press releases. Among his main duties are maintaining and updating the athletic department’s website, recording statistics and working with various media outlets to promote all of Lincoln’s student athletes.

For the past three years, Carr has also served on the MIAA Basketball Championship committee, helping to organize and coordinate the conference’s post-season basketball tournaments. Carr, a member of CoSIDA, runs the Lincoln Athletic Department’s Twitter, Insta-gram and YouTube accounts. Carr was the on-site media relations coordinator when Lincoln hosted the 2014 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the 2012 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Regional.

Prior to coming to Lincoln, Carr worked as a sports in-formation assistant at Cleveland State University, where he served as the primary media contact for seven of the school’s 17 Division I sports. In 2011 he handled all the media relation duties for the Horizon League Swim-ming & Diving Championships and also worked with members of the press when the school hosted second and third round games of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

Carr also has experience in television, as he worked for BCSN, a cable sports network in the Toledo, Ohio area before entering the field of sports information. Carr recorded stats, did camera work and created graphics for a wide variety of high school and college sporting events.

Carr began his athletic career as a student assistant in Denison University’s sports information department from 2003-2005, ultimately graduating in 2005 with degrees in communication and theatre.

Lincoln UniversityHistory of Lincoln UniversityAt the close of the Civil War, soldiers and officers of the 62nd United States Colored Infantry, stationed at Fort McIntosh, Texas, but composed primarily of Missourians, took steps to establish an educational institution in Jefferson City, Missouri, which they named Lincoln Institute. The following stipulations were set for the school:

1. The institution shall be designed for the special benefit of the freed African-Americans;2. It shall be located in the state of Missouri;3. Its fundamental idea shall be to combine study and labor.

Members of the 62nd Colored Infantry contributed $5,000; this was supplemented by approximately $1,400, given by the 65th Colored Infantry. On January 14, 1866, Lincoln Institute was for-mally established under an organization committee. By June of the same year, it incorporated and the committee became a Board of Trustees. Richard Baxter Foster, a former first lieutenant in the 62nd Infantry, was named first principal of Lincoln Institute. On Septem-ber 17, 1866, the school opened its doors to the first class in an old frame building in Jefferson City.

In 1869, Lincoln Institute moved to the present campus, and in 1870 it began to receive aid from the state of Missouri for teacher training. College-level work was added to the curriculum in 1877, and passage of the Normal School Law permitted Lincoln gradu-ates to teach for life in Missouri without further examination. Lincoln Institute formally became a state institution in 1879 with the deeding of the property to the state. Under the second Morrill Act of 1890, Lincoln became a land grant institution, and the fol-lowing year industrial and agricultural courses were added to the curriculum.

In 1921, the Missouri Legislature passed a bill introduced by Walthall M. Moore, the first black American to serve in that body, which changed the name from Lincoln Institute to Lincoln Univer-sity and created a Board of Curators to govern the University.

The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools accredited the high school division in 1925, the teacher-training program in 1926, and the four-year college of arts and sciences in 1934. Graduate instruction was begun in the summer session of 1940, with majors in education and history and minors in English, history, and sociology. A School of Journalism was established in February 1942.

In 1954, the United States Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, and Lincoln University responded by opening its doors to all applicably meeting its entrance criteria. Today, Lincoln University serves a diverse clientele, both residential and non-residential, engages in a variety of research projects, and offers numerous public service programs in addition to providing an array of academic programs.
