1. PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It has been very rewarding and a great pleasure being the Inner West Little Athletics Centre President for this, my first season.

I would firstly like to thank all of our committed and energetic committee members for helping to make this centre the continued success that it is – thank you all for the many hours that you volunteer to ensure our members enjoy their Little Athletics experience with us.

There has been some great teamwork in action this season, as we strive to make our centre the best place it can be for you, our members.

I would like to extend an extra big thank you to our BBQ Helpers - Rick, Darryl and Margret who are there every week and provide you with an outstanding BBQ. In addition, big thank you to the onion runners who pick up our onions every Friday afternoon from the Five Dock Club. I would also like to thank the parents who came on your rostered Friday night to help us setup and pack away, it really does make a difference in being ready for a 6pm start.

A measure of success is the quality of feedback we receive, and this season it was pleasing to receive positive comments from athletes, parents, age managers and key officials of our centre’s efficiency and to compliment us on the work we do. I thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback, as this inspires us to continue to raise the bar.

This season we had 529 registered athletes. It has had its challenges. The major setback was with Westconnex taking over our top oval were we normally conduct our discus and shot put events. Despite constant communication and various meetings with both Westconnex and Canada Bay Council, we were unable to have this area opened by early January as promised by Westconnex. This was a disappointing outcome as they promised they would not affect the operations of our Centre.

From a representative perspective, all our athletes performed well at Centre level. In addition to this, participation and performance at State Relays, Trans Tasman Trials and Challenge, Zone, Regional, State Multi Event and finally the State Championships was to be commended.

We are very proud of them and their achievements.

Finally, I would like to thank you all again for the past year. We look forward to seeing you all again, when the season starts in September later this year.

2. REGISTRAR’S REPORT The 2015/16 season was our biggest season in relation to registrations for the last 5 years. With a total of 529 athletes this did not come without its challenges.

This has been my first season as Registrar at the Centre and I wish to say a huge thank you to all IWLAC Committee members, Age Managers, parents and athletes for all the support and assistance received. It was very much appreciated. The Centre had two specific registration days prior to the commencement of the season and they were held at St Lukes Oval, the vast majority of our members registered online either before the registration days or at the oval on the registration days. There were only a few manual registrations taken during the season.

As with previous seasons, the number of athletes registering dropped off in the older age groups. However the under 13s have maintained good numbers this season, so hopefully we can continue to make athletics appealing to the older age groups. Possibly with a push on social media we may be able to attract a number of new athletes.

I believe the club has got a good balance between competitiveness and fun, and I think most athletes enjoyed the season while producing some outstanding results.

I hope to see you all back next season.

3. TREASURERS’ REPORT The Club registered 529 members this season. Income received for the 2015/2016 season was generated from the following areas: – Net Registration contributed 54% of the clubs income for the year - $39,528, Uniform sales were $8,635 and the BBQ/Canteen contributed $17,766. IWLAC received a $1,500 grant from the Canada Bay Club, which was used to purchase the coffee machine and new freezer in the canteen.

General expenditure for the season totalled $43,674 covering BBQ/Canteen purchases ($9,346), ground hire fees ($5,210), coaching and Tiny Tot managers ($6,370), zone/region/state expenses ($5,479) and operational expenses ($17,269).

The club invested $30,621 into capital items, made up of uniform purchases of $9,334, updating of equipment $3,998, three new Timing Solution gates and Starter speaker $3,504, New Laptop $1,852 and

Page | 7

additional clubhouse fitout of $6,647. New Hurdles were purchased costing $5,286 of which LANSW contributed half the cost via a grant of $2,643.

Due to the injection of these capital purchases, the final fit out of the canteen and the increase in the ground hire fee by the council, the club has generated a small deficit of $2,829. The surplus funds as at 31st March 2016 are $33,312, which means the club, is in a good financial position going forward into the 2016/17 season.

4. SECRETARY’S REPORT The 2015-2016 season for IWLAC has been very successful one for our athletes and the club as a whole. An enthusiastic committee has initiated a needed change in the direction, progress and organization of IWLAC which will benefit the athletes and the club now an in the future.

From the introduction of the Inner West Games, organization of the Age managers, incorporating an equipment set up/pack up roster and providing more varied and healthier BBQ and canteen options, this season has shown that we are heading in a direction for the good of our athletes.

Thank you to all our committee this season, especially Darryl (President), Adriana (Vice President) and Peter (IT expert). Your tireless behind the scenes efforts months prior to and during the season made my job as Secretary a lot easier indeed.

Well done to those parents who helped each Friday night. The adage “many hands makes light work” really does help comp nights run smoothly.

Finally congratulations to all the athletes for trying your best, keeping fit and having fun!

Looking forward to a fabulous 2016 – 2017 Season

Paula Duong Secretary

5. EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES DURING THE WINTER BREAK

Cross Country

Cross country events are run at various locations in Sydney over winter. Most are held on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Details of the venues and times are available on www.iwlac.org.au. The NSW Little Athletics New South Wales Association will be holding the State Cross Country & Road Walks at Kembla Joggers Cross Country Park, West Dapto on 3 July 2016. For further information please check out www.lansw.org.au for entry and event information including closing date. If three athletes from the same age group participate, they are eligible to compete for the team medals, in addition to individual awards. You must wear your uniform at this event, so don’t throw away your registration number, age patch and centre number!

Coaching Courses

The contribution of the many parents who assist with running events is essential to successfully run any competition night. Training can be provided on Friday nights to familiarise parents with the rules of competition and how to conduct the various events. You can also become a formally qualified Little Athletics official by sitting an exam prepared by the Association. These officials can undertake duties such as training age managers, verifying club record attempts or being a chief official at the Zone carnival. All necessary assistance will be provided to anyone wishing to become a qualified official.

6. INFORMATION ABOUT 2016 / 2017 SEASON Next season will begin in September 2016. Registrations should start in August so please keep an eye on our website and Facebook for updated information.

10. MOST IMPROVED AWARD Each year we present a trophy for the athlete who demonstrates the great improvement over the course of the season. The details of how points are allocated for improvement and participation are explained in the section dealing with the Point Score Championship. Because the emphasis is on personal improvement, an athlete’s placing in their events is not considered.

The winner of the Most Improved Athlete Award is the athlete within our club who accumulates the most improvement and participation points throughout the season. This award is designed to further encourage regular participation and consistent improvement in performances among our athletes.

This season, there were 3 equal winners of this award:

Tanisha Lee Young Under 6 girls

Alexander Marshall Under 8 boys

Sofia Watts Under 10 girls

Being a points based competition that consists of 3 track & 3 field events (100m or 200m Sprint, Hurdles & Pack Start or 800 and Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump) the event is conducted over 2 days and is suited to all round athletes. 16. STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS The NSW Little Athletics State Cross Country & Road Walks Championships were held on Sunday, 5 July 2015 at Scheyville National Park, Scheyville. The early morning start was chilly with fog around the grounds but fined up for a nice warm sunny winter’s day. Given the recent rain the track was muddy especially in some sections where you really needed gum boots and not runners. Well done to all those that competed.

17. TRANS TASMAN CHALLENGE Trans-Tasman was a fun experience where you get to meet a lot of new friends and travel around Auckland. It was even more exciting for me as it was my first overseas trip. One off the most memorable days was the day when the New Zealanders took the Australians around Auckland for the day. Another day was when we spent a night in a Marae to learn about the Maori culture. It is interesting, in New Zealand the age groups for athletics are different. For example, under 12s in Australia is 11s for New Zealand. The 2016 Trans-Tasman marks the 40th anniversary so we were lucky to receive a medal with a '40' on it. Annabelle and I met a lot of lovely friends many of which we still keep in contact with.
