Get It On! What It Means to Lead the WayKENI THOMAS

Your presence is critical to everyone on your team. Each team is made up of personalities crucial to the success of your enterprise. But in the day-to-day of work and home life, it can be easy to lose perspective on your value to others. But make no mistake: your actions have an effect on every person you come in contact with.

When you raise your hand or assume a task, you have put on the “uniform.” Duty follows that responsibility. Good

is never enough because better is expected. Keni Thomas will help you see yourself in a new light. He’ll empower you to choose to have a positive impact on those around you every day.

On October 3, 1993, Keni and his fellow rangers distinguished themselves in an 18-hour firefight that would later be recounted in the highly successful book and movie “Blackhawk Down.” Nineteen Americans gave their lives, and 78 were wounded in the worst urban combat seen by U.S. troops since WWII.

Keni will command your attention from beginning to end as he tells the incredible story of extraordinary individuals and how they fought to bring each other home. Drawing from his experiences on the battlefield, Keni will inspire you to achieve greatness by stressing the importance of outstanding leadership on every level.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS

FRIDAY, APRIL 17 9:00–10:00 A.M.

The Drive to Feed the WorldRANDY SHANKS, Nutra Blend LLC

Why is public opinion of our industry headed in the wrong direction? We assume

people will research the facts ... WRONG! We have been fighting the war on the wrong front. Randy Shanks will show you how to get involved in a bold new movement to reshape public opinion and why our strategy is working. This battle is too important. We must win not only for the sake of our industry, but more importantly, for the millions of innocent children who will be affected if we don’t.

The first phase of this effort has been the Chew on This Tour (www.drivetofeed.com), a unique interactive road show traveling the nation to heighten awareness about one of the biggest problems facing our world, hunger. The tour has stopped at feed mills, universities, fairs, state capitols and civic events around the country.

During this formative time in new advertising regulation he facilitated interaction between the Commission and the advertising industry. In 1985, Snyder joined the American Advertising Federation as senior vice president, government affairs, where he represented and testified on behalf of 40,000 advertising professionals before Congress and state legislative bodies. Considered an advertising industry expert on public policy and law, Snyder has appeared on CNBC, CNN, Fox News, National Public Radio and NBC. He has written articles for publications including Advertising Age, Business & Professional Ethics Journal, the Advertising Journal and The Journal of Advertising Research. Snyder remains active in the business of advertising. In May of 2008, Snyder was named Distinguished Visiting Professor, Missouri School of Journalism. His current blogs on ethical advertising can be found on the University of Missouri Reynolds Journalism Institute website: www.rjionline.org.

handed sermon. But rather, a frank discussion of new methods and how the trend to combine digital, print and broadcast direct-delivery buys creates potential for ethical, ownership and legal conflicts for journalists, publishers, advertisers and agencies. Agency account managers, creative/design personnel, media buyers, ad sales reps and publishing staff will all benefit from this discussion about how to sharpen that blurry line between editorial content and advertising in new media.

Wally Snyder has devoted his professional career to establishing the importance of advertising to consumers and to the economy. A lawyer with a J.D. degree from the University of Iowa College of Law, Snyder spent 16 years at the Federal Trade Commission in the field of advertising law and policy. He litigated and argued on appeal national cases, and he then advanced to associate director for advertising practices becoming the Commission’s liaison to the advertising industry.

Darren Mark and Kevin Schwarzenberger are founding partners at Scenic Road Productions. Their company has established itself as a national leader in video storytelling, working on video projects for clients like Monsanto, Merial, Applebee’s and J.P. Morgan, among others.
