It is with great excitement that I write to you about this past fiscal year. Thanks to the won-derful effort of our walk managers, staff members, volunteers and participants, we had an unbelievably successful Walk to End Alzheimer’s season. In fiscal year 2015, we raised more than $800,000. This money will go directly to services in our community, as well as to sup-port research. The Board and staff continue to strive to provide services to those in need, and will be expanding our services over the next year. Our chapter Helpline has provided information and support to over 10,000 people locally. As the largest, private non-profit funder of Alzheimer’s research, the association is committed to accelerating progress of new treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure. We thank everyone for their commit-ment and support, and look forward to your continued efforts as we lead the fight against this disease.
TREASURER REPORTWe would like to thank our donors for their generous support throughout fiscal year 2015. During the fiscal year, 80 percent of every dollar was used to fund local programs and services. Your donations enabled us to provide care and support for more than 160,000 persons with Alzheimer’s disease, their caregivers as well as their families. We were able to provide outreach programs, education and training, health fairs and conferences to raise awareness about Alzhei-mer’s disease. We are pleased to report that your generosity also allowed us to provide support for the advancement of research in the areas of better treatment options, prevention and cure of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Our revenue of $2.6 million enabled us to increase the delivery of our programs and services and to expand our outreach. We raised $826,000 from our Walk to End Alzheimer’s, our signature event. Thank you for your continued support as we work toward achieving our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease.
The Southeast Florida Chapter has one of the largest volumes of Helpline calls in the nation, and is staffed by Masters level clinicians. The Helpline staff and Program Coordinators provide professional education and guidance such as care consultations, behavior management, communication techniques, help with caregiver stress, and connection to local resources. Special thanks to all our donors for supporting scholarships for more than 50 percent of all Alzheimer’s Association MedicAlert + Safe Return local applicants.

ADVOCACY & PUBLIC POLICYAt the end of this fiscal year, we saw the largest increase in NIH fund-ing by the Appropriation Committees in the House and Senate. We are now working to urge Congress to support this momentous fund-ing increase for Alzheimer’s. The Health Outcomes, Planning and Education (HOPE) for Alzheimer’s Act is gaining support in Southeast Florida. Eight out of our nine representatives and Senator Bill Nel-son have all co-sponsored the act. We fight to ensure the HOPE Act becomes law. In the state of Florida, we advocated for an increase of $3 million for the Ed and Ethel Moore Alzheimer’s Research Program and $1.7 million in additional respite services funding. In the year to come, we will continue to raise our voices.

The Southeast Florida Chapter has made tremendous strides to grow its volunteer base with the help of increased outreach efforts and volunteers who are truly dedicated to the cause. In FY 2015, more than 1,300 volunteers donated more than 15,000 hours of service across the Chapter’s seven county service area. Whether to help a single individual or ignite change that benefits millions, our volunteers have come together to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.
