SCOTT: Orlando, Florida. Now living in Windermere.

SCOTT: Basically Butch and I wanted to start our own brand. We’re going on our 9th year now and it’s come leaps and bounds from where we started. With all the technology that Butch is putting in the boards and our team being some of the best riders out there, like all around. From contest to rail stuff to cable parks, they’re doing the craziest shit out there, I see it just continu-ing to do that. Just keep trying to stay in the forefront and trying to keep the sport cool, you know. Just kinda try to do something different and not the same old shit.

SCOTT: Man, he had blue hair, and a nose ring all the way threw his nose, a bull ring. He was like this surfer from over at the beach and he wake-boarded. He would always come over with these new boards he would make himself and it started that way. I think he was a team manager for Arnette? Yeah that’s how I met him. And then he wakeboard-ed too, skateboarded, surfed and made boards. He wanted to make me a board and I think made me my first finless boards. He’s been shaping ever since, for a long time. Every Time I go surfing with him I forget my surfboard, so I always end up going home with a new one :)

SCOTT: When Rathy and Mitch Langfield won the world championships in the same year on Byerly Boards.

SCOTT: When it had sandal strap bindings and the boards were one direction... back in skurfer days, whenever that was? The 80’s?

SCOTT: Can I pick three? Or one i don’t like? i dont like whiskey.

SCOTT: Um.... The Selfie Fad with these girls.

SCOTT: In Wake...where it is now, from where it was. Watching all these new guys wakeskating and stuff. It’s like all these tricks we dreamed of back in the day are like an every day occurrence now. And all these spots and all these kids and that’s all they do, that’s what inspires me a lot!

BRENTON: Melbourne Australia and I’m 25

BRENTON: I like a lot of Rock n’ Roll. Old 80’s music and stuff.

BRENTON: Skateboarding, skydiving and surfing.I used to snowboard. I kinda just like standing sideways.

BRENTON: Hu?... I don’t know? Where you getting this information from? All I know is that Wombats are gnarly little things. They’re so solid, If you hit em with a boat trailer they’d almost flip the boat trailer.

BRENTON: To live I guess! Living to work not working to live.

BRENTON: It’s only fuckin’ going forward. I mean when I was younger I kinda had it in the back of my mind that all the other sports were going to look at wakeboarding like it’s going to be the next rollerblading. But now with all the bigger gaps and winching and all the shit we’re doing like doubles and inventing new tricks, it’s only going forward and getting crazier. I don’t think it’s going anywhere and it’s good to be a part of wakeboarding right now. It’s a lot of fun

BRENTON: Been wakeboarding since I was 7 years old. Always hitting up the lake on family holi-day. I guess ever since then I haven’t stopped.

BRENTON: Right now I’ve been working on a video part and trying to winch a lot. Do some different shit and hitting a lot of urban spots. I’ve been filming since September and have only about 6 winch spots. Lot of fuckin’ hard work, a lot of building and lugging shit through the mud and hopping fences and shit. Definitely not going and getting a gas can and riding behind a boat for 30 minutes.

BRENTON: Um...Probably learning a Double Indy Tantrum over a set-up out in Germany. That was a pretty cool moment, to learn something new.

BRENTON: I find that a lot of Americans and the friends I have in America are very similar to Australians. And the worst thing? Probably when people flip out on my accent and try to fuckin’ repeat it. That’s pretty annoying.

AARON: Vancouver Island, Canada - Nanaimo

AARON: Seventeen. That was pretty much right when I turned pro. It was within a year after that.

AARON: It was just so much easier. I know I would have never made it staying in Nanaimo. It was mainly boat riding back then and you had to go to Florida, for me anyways.

AARON: When I signed with Hyperlite. Everyone looks up to him when they’re coming up. He was like one of the main dudes even back then. He was always super cool and we didn’t really kick it that much, but he was always cool on trips and stuff like that. He is just a cool guy because of the things he does for kids in the industry. He’s not like all stuck up and stuff, he’s really humble and down with the sport. He just wants to see it grow. He realizes that the new kids are the ones that are going to grow it.

AARON: I skate, surf as much as I can, I used to snowboard a lot but then living in Florida kind of put a hold on that.

AARON: I like really enjoy what I’m doing right now and I realize that barely anyone retires off of action sports so I’m not really blinded by that. I’m not really sure yet I’m still thinking about it. But I’ve been thinking about it a lot for a long time. Definitely do something I enjoy over something for money.

AARON: I don’t know... It’s been crazy, been a really weird roller coaster. It’s been fun for a long time and I’ve met a lot of great people. Hopefully it will go on for a lot longer and I want to move on to something else.

AARON: The kids obviously. More park events. I think there is a real cool movement going on in Europe right now. Boat riding is not dead, it’s just expensive. I think the future would be get-ting better in the park and better board control and then when you get the opportunity take it to the wake. Spend more time and not as much money at the park and when the time comes you’re better behind the boat.

AARON: I’ve only blacked out twice in my life and once was my 17th birthday and once was my 21st. It sucks. I think people black out for a reason and I don’t black out and I feel like it’s a curse because I remember all the stupid shit that I do.

AARON: Cage the Elephant is one of my favorite new bands. But I listen to a lot of Jose Gonzalez, a band called Junip. Mainly classic rock and I guess you’d call it alternative. I really like acoustic music. Oh yeah and Elliot Smith, always listening to him.

AARON: I guess it’s easy to say my favorite moment was winning rider of the year but that’s just like something that’s kind of a title. Man... I’ve had so many of them. It was cool cause like in the last few years I’ve got to see the younger generations progress. Like I got to see Dowdy’s double roll to blind in which he won trick of the year and I filmed it. There’s just all these cool little mo-ments. It’s just fun to be a part of. I was like a part of the growth of the sport in my generation and it’s just cool to see those younger kids push-ing it. So I had a lot of special moments this year that pushed me.

AARON: I play the guitar. I haven’t been doing it very long but it’s pretty much taking over my life.

AARON: It’s just home. I just want to go home. Vancouver island is so amazing. I didn’t really appreciate it growing up, like you know how it is but now I miss it so much.

AARON: Uh... Other I guess? Definitely other. Who’s supported you along the way?AARON: All my sponsorships are really good. My parents. They were super cool with me pretty much dropping out of school and moving to Florida and pursuing my dreams. I know that it was really temporary and if it wouldn’t of worked right away they would have brought me back, but just to let your kid do that and have that freedom and go for that experience was really cool. And I mean fuck, they’ve helped me so much along the way. There’s no way I’d be doing it without them.

KYLE: Guelph, Ontario. Just turned 29

KYLE: I really like basketball I wish I was taller and could play basketball.

KYLE: That’s kind of a disrespectful place to get a tattoo and I really don’t think the person would think it was funny, but it’d have to be George. He’d probably get a kick out of it cause he’d think it was funny. He’d be honored, maybe?

KYLE: People wearing board shorts as shorts. Like if you see people walking in the mall wearing board shorts with socks and shoes and a button up shirt I’m not into that. It just really irks me.

KYLE: My family when we grew up, we had a cottage about four hours north of lake Toronto so in the summertime I’d go up all summer long so I grew up tubing and kneeboarding and water skiing and one day my dad rented me a wakeboard from this shop in town and ever since that day I never went back to skiing. I started wakeboarding with my family at the cottage I started taking lessons and went to a couple wakeboard camps and sort of one thing led to another and ended up taking a year off of school between high school and university and ended up moving down to Florida to kind of wake-board for a year. I met the guys at O town and I met the guys at the boarding school and kind of the rest was history.

KYLE: Bacalar Mexico. It’s like a four hour drive from Cancun deep in the heart of Mexico. Me and J.D. actually went there for the Al Sur movie we had no idea where we’re going. It was super sketchy driving on the road for like four hours way in over our heads and we showed up in the middle of the night, no idea what it looked like. When we woke up it was this lake in the middle of no where, there isn’t one other boat on the lake and it’s 50 miles of 100 feet deep and crystal clear water. It was the sickest place ever.

KYLE: The first time when I really thought I’d try to make a go of it was Travis Moye and Shaun Murray approached me from the boarding school and offered me a job there I could work at the camp and live on my own and ride and train and I had a few sponsors. It was kind of what gave me that opportunity for me to have time to coach and have time to train on my own and that was when I was like ok I’m going to try to stay down here for a little bit and give this a shot and see what happens. I was 19 at that time and I’m still fighting the fight today.

KYLE: I have this weird thing its kind of embar-rassing I’m actually super scared of fish. When I was a kid I hated falling in the water I used to splash my hands so fish wouldn’t come near me and to this day I won’t fish cause I don’t want to take the fish off the hook . I’ve seen a ton of gaters, I’ve been super close. There’s no way in hell I’d want to touch it, jump on it.

KYLE: It’s a huge part in my life right now it’s really helped me, honestly, not feel old and not get beat up. I think it goes back to the level where wakeboarding’s at these days. I think the days of staying up late and partying on tour and showing up half there, that doesn’t happen any-more. To be able to compete and stick around as long as I have you kind of have to take care of yourself. I found cross fit like 2-3 years ago. It completely changed my body, it changed how I feel, how I feel on the water. It made wakeboarding easier, it made me not sore. It’s been a really fun secondary thing to have to wakeboarding. It translates back to our sport really well.

KYLE: I think just don’t take it super serious just sort of have fun and enjoy it. Once I sort of felt more comfortable where I was and where I fit in the wakeboard world I just kind of did my thing and when I started doing that things were a lot more fun and a lot less stressful and I started to ride better because I wasn’t worrying who was judging me. Just ride the way you want to ride. Especially these days, there’s all kinds of guys who are doing things that wouldn’t have happened 5 to 10 years ago that wouldn’t of been considered cool or wouldn’t have been accepted. I think wakeboarding’s ready for some kids to come in and shake things up a bit.

KYLE: I’ve tried, at the cross fit gym. I’ve actually recently been working on my juggling skills and juggling and riding a unicycle is something I should be able to do or want to be able to do so I’ve recently been juggling I’ve yet to find a unicycle. I’ve conquered juggling, and next I’m going to try to conquer the unicycle and then link them together.

KYLE: I’m kind of all over the map, I like hip hop I like dubstep I like electronic . It kind of just depends on the mood, if I’m in the boat or at the cross fit gym.

JACOB: Aww dude, white boys trying to be black.CODY: I think I’ve always known. I had a good influence around the lake. It’s really all I’ve ever known.

JACOB: I’ve always kind of looked up to Byerly as a legend growing up, even when he started the company. And then I worked things out in Septem-ber and got a call from Butch and just talked everything out and jumped on boards and things just started flowing.

JACOB: No. I mean living in California, at times you’re like damn dude I really need to move to Florida because I don’t have the same opportunities to ride as they do. At the same time, if I move to Orlando, I’m just going to be like every single person out there. That’s every other wakeboarders dream. But my dream, is to stay in California and do as best as I possibly can.

JACOB: Yeah, it’s like those pretty boy white boys that try to be black. They’re like “Aww yeah, ha ha ha.” But at the same time they try to be hardcore and they get knocked out.

JACOB: After wakeboarding, I might join the Navy. Or Coastguard. Or become a Cop. I want to do something badass. I’ve thought about going into gang related police work, something like that.

JACOB: I listen to a lot of Rap. I don’t like bad rap. I like Dom Kennedy. Schoolboy Q. Nipsey Hustle.

JACOB: I’m a father of two dogs. I do have a girlfriend, her names Courtney.

JACOB: Kind of style I guess. Like watching vid-eos of people riding and doing different kind of things makes me inspired to go out there and kind of do my own kind of thing. You know you have guys going out and finding different spots or you have guys like Brenton who is a style master and everything is just so different than anyone else.

JACOB: I see system 2.0 blowing up! Events like the Wake Open so you’re doing different kinds of stuff like boat, cable. And then other stuff like photo shoots, video parts as well, social media is blowing up. Off the water doing stuff like clinics, going around and riding with different people and kind of just spreading your name.

CODY: Wakeboarding wise, Randall Harris - other than that Mohammed Ali. He’s the greatest of all time.

CODY: I don’t even know TV shows anymore man. Oh wipeout. I think I could do Wipeout. I al-ways wonder if it’s as hard as the people make it look.

CODY: I would really like to do the triple flip. Everyday I guess I try to think more towards that. I been working on it on the trampoline and shit but I’m going to go out soon and do it.

CODY: My mother. She’s been there, just always putting her all in for me. And all my friends and sponsors, I hate leaving people out.

CODY: June is the first triple crown and I’ll be doing nationals, wake open. I’m going to try and do a lot of cable events. I think one of them is both boat and cable.

CODY: Hairy armpits. Yeah, that’s gross.

CODY: I listen to a lot of rap, a lot of hip hop. I like zero, slim thug.

CODY: They’re pushing it pretty hard. Every-body’s out throwing double flips and actually they’re getting really creative now with shredtown coming out with their winch and stuff. The urban scene is really coming alive. The cable scene is obviously taking over which is sick, it really allows you to get really creative and not just the typical boat stuff. Even though I love boat. Everybody is starting to build really big, cool shit.

WHERE YOU FROM?BRANDON: Orlando, Florida

BRANDON: When I was around 16-17 I started going to the OWC. Saw a few others on wakeskates, like Grubb, so grabbed a wakeskate and was always skating around the cable. I was just getting out of high school, or just getting into wakeskating at the end of high school.

BRANDON: I think wakeskate today is way different then when Grubb and I started or when Scott got into it. This is an awesome generation of kids. I see everyone who cant afford to always go wake board or wakeskate just go winch or to the cable parks. Or if your buddies got a boat just get-ting behind that and it doesn’t matter what kinda boat it is really. Kids going to the ditches and finding stuff on Google. It’s just neat to see it progress. Now its just more skateboard oriented and you see a rider who can ride the boat, and the cable and the winch.

BRANDON: Right now Ijust want to keep riding. I’m also really into shooting and filming right now and music. I like to bring that into our sport. I ride for some great companies that I can always support in some other ways too. I’m really freakin’ out on this drone stuff. Yeah that’s my new passion or something. I’ve had a drone for like a year and loving filming wakeskating and now I’m filming stuff like real estate and I’m filming a music video. Super pumped about the drone. Just flying it around wakeskating has got me really good with it.

BRANDON: I’m going to go with.. Iggy Azalea

BRANDON: Where’s this going to get posted? I’ll go with whiskey.

BRANDON: Pretty much been DJing as long as I’ve been wakeskating. I do a lot of the wake events and I also DJ downtown at a chill little bar called Magnolia. Just kinda freelance with it and get stuff here and there when I can.

BRANDON: Family, Friends, Fun?

BRANDON: Oh man, I knew you were going to ask that question. Dude there’s so many genres of mu-sic, I can’t even tell you what genre, let alone, my favorite artist. When I DJ I like to spin, you know, hip hop, newer music like Trap, dance music. My Favorite DJ right now is DJ A Trak. Oh yeah and DJ AM to this day still has some of my Favorite shit.

BRANDON: Oh man, seven years. Just started trim-ming them here and there. Scott cut one the other day, couple of my friends cut a couple. They’re starting to hurt my neck. When they get wet it feels like I’ve got two heads.

Blending influences of lost carnivals, Nordic mythology and hazy nostalgia, Mike Shine’s eerie yet often light-hearted art has been included in exhibitions with SFMOMA, Laguna Art Museum and The Museum of Craft and Folk Art. GEORGE: Ever since the first TOE JAM I met Scott and he’s like, “Hey, you wanna ride for hyper-lite?” So I start riding for Hyperlite and going over to his house like every day and hanging out learning new tricks, yada yada yada. Scott and Hyperlite formed his new brand and I have been a part of that since the beginning.

BRET: Um...man, first learned to wakeboard when I was about 12, but didn’t really get into until after high school when I re-found wakeskating, so about 11 years.

BRET: Uh, I play Soccer, Skate, try to Snowboard when I can.

BRET: Yeah,I wakeboarded for a little bit when I got back into it, but they built a cable park out here and I ended up getting a job out there. So when I went out there I’d heard of wakeskating,but didn’t really think it was some-thing I could do. Then when I started going to the park I started gravitating towards it, I got an older brother that skateboards and I grew up around Skateboarding. It appeals a little more to me.

BRET: You know we’re just a little more free from our boards. More skate influenced. Loose and a little more forgiving some times. I was kinda into snowboarding before I got into wake and stuff, so I like rails and stuff. I never really wakeboard behind a boat or anything.

BRET: Hopefully it sticks around, I think the doors are real open on it. There’s so many areas left to explore. With lock-in tricks and flip kicks that we know are possible through skate-boarding but hasn’t necessarily been done with the wakeskates yet, so I hope it sticks around long enough to grow to it’s full potential.

BRET: Probably Shark? I wouldn’t say I’m a super adventurous eater. Haven’t really had that many opportunities?

BRET: Yes, yes I have, and yes it does, but it was small, so I don’t really want to claim that one too hard.

BRET: Taylor Swift

BRET: Um... Probably switch heel flips.

BRET: Uh......Legs? You come in more contact with them I guess.

BRET: That’s tough, I’ve been lucky enough to see a couple things, but I’d probably say Danny Hamp-son’s first late front big spin. I think that was the first time someone’s done that off the wake.

GEORGE: Yeah I’ve caught a couple gators, I just think it puts hair on your balls when you grab one. It definitely separates the men from the boys.

GEORGE: When everyone started wearing the shit they slide over? The wakeboarders would put these like compression sleeves on. Like all the Basketball players wear them.

GEORGE: I’d say Scott. Scott’s had my back a lot through everything.

GEORGE: Right now I’m actually cutting down trees and shit, a lumberjack so I’d probably say that.

GEORGE: Um...I’d say Kyle Rattray

GEORGE: I do a little bit of surfing when the swells up and a I’ll do a little bit of skate-boarding when it’s nice and cool and a little bit of bass fishin in the evening time. Little bit of Mountain Biking too.
