VISITOR CENTER — This beautiful welcome center is the place to purchase Living History tickets, view the Ditches of Destiny video and stroll through the Founder’s Gallery, where the story of Edward and Frances Montgomery’s restoration dream is told. In the Exhibit Hall, located on the lower level, you will find detailed dioramas, maps and models of the canal and lock system and our cooperage exhibit. At the Village Crafter’s Shop, located inside the Visitor Center, you can purchase items which have been fashioned by our skilled Roscoe Village artisans. THE VILLAGE SMITHY — Built c.1889, this rustic structure is the home of our village blacksmith. Since its renovation in 1978, the barn has come alive with memories, as a blacksmith demonstrates, using the old tools and techniques of the Canal Era.

HAY CRAFT & LEARNING CENTER — Watch the broom squire handcraft useful brooms from broomcorn. Learn about the various specialty brooms made in Roscoe Village. See the printer operate an 1870s press and receive a sample bookmark. Home to the broom shop and print shop, the Raymond Hay Craft and Learning Center was built in 1987 and named in honor of Raymond Hay, an active community leader and supporter of Roscoe Village. THE TOLL HOUSE — This is the restored home of Jacob Welsh, the first recorded toll collector in Roscoe. It is now home to exhibit items and a video pertaining to the restoration processes used throughout the Village as well as The Toy Cellar, a vintage toy exhibit.

DR. MARO JOHNSON’S OFFICE — Built in 1842, Dr. Johnson’s Office is home to many medical instruments and furnishings of the 19th century. Listen to Dr. Johnson as he shares stories about 1800s medicine. Visit the medical display located on the second floor.

DR. MARO JOHNSON’S HOUSE — A beautifully furnished 1830s period home once owned by Dr. Maro Johnson, a prominent doctor in Roscoe during the Canal Era. Here he lived with his wife and four children while keeping his office in the rooms next door. Antiques from the 1800s provide the background, while costumed interpreters describe the lifestyle and furnishings. CALDERSBURGH PEARL CANAL BOAT EXHIBIT — Climb aboard this life-size replica of a three-cabin cargo boat. This exhibit is permanently moored along the hillside in Roscoe and will spark the imaginations of guests of all ages with its authentic detail. ROSCOE SCHOOL — Gather children of all ages at the one-room schoolhouse for a daily lesson of reading, writing and arithmetic under the watchful eye of the school teacher. THE CRAFTSMAN’S HOUSE — As both the oldest building in Roscoe, built in 1825, and the only building to be moved from its original site on SR 541 W, this little home has quite a past. Previously the home of canal weaver Daniel Boyd and his family, today you will find looms and a home representing the lifestyle of the typical Roscoe resident.

Your canal boat is stuck in Roscoe Village for repairs. Whatever will you do to pass the time? Are you as strong as a blacksmith? The village printer is looking for an apprentice; load freight on the deck of the Caldersburg Pearl and stop by the toll house and figure your toll. Enjoy your dealings with costumed interpreters while mudlarked in Roscoe.

Journey through all the Living History Exhibits and see a glimpse of life along the canal in early Roscoe. Visit Dr. Maro Johnson at his office, experience a school lesson in a one-room school house, observe a working blacksmith, and watch Roscoe Village artisans weave rugs, make brooms and portray life in an 1800s canal town. What’s It?* $5.00 per adult Sit back and relax as you interact with one of our costumed interpreters as they present an array of tools, utensils and instruments that would have been employed in our 1800s canal town. After seeing the items, guests will be asked the magical question “What’s It?” and will have the opportunity to make a guess. The answer will be revealed along with a brief history of its function. We will not be keeping score because everyone is a winner! Each participant will take home a village hand-crafted notecard.

On the 45-minute canal boat ride, you will be entertained by the Canal Boat Captain as he explains 1800s life on the canal. You’ll hear tall tales and a lot taof history told in first person so you’ll feel like you’ve actually glided right into the 1830s. Weird & WonderfulImagine going into Grandma’s attic and finding treasures that you’ve never seen before. We’ve got some of those things in our “attic” as well. Come and play “What’s that thing?”—a game that invites the audience to guess what the object really is and where it came from. You’ll be given three possible answers (remember What’s My Line?) for each object and we’ll see who in your group is the best at guessing. This program can be adjusted to fit your schedule. Suggested length: 30 – 45 minutes.Cost: $3 per adult with a minimum total admission of $45.

Black OutLet’s say you don’t have electricity for a week…. Unfortunately it’s not that hard to imagine so now’s the time to acquaint yourselves with alternative sources of light, utensils, and entertainment. (Hmmm…you might even remember using some of these items at some time in your life back in “the dark ages.”) We’ll share some interesting innovation that folks use to employ to illuminate, percolate and accommodate without one amp of electricity. You’ll be saying, “Oh, for the good ol’days.”This program can be adjusted to fit your schedule. Suggested length: 30-45 min.Cost: $3 per adult with a minimum total admission of $45.

The Glory of the SamuraiHundreds of years ago the Japanese perfected the making of armor and swords, fit for the class of warriors called Samurai. The armor was flexible and light, weighing a mere 25 lbs., and their swords were considered works of art because of the blade’s strength and the beauty of the fittings. Now aren’t you curious? Check out JHM’s weaponry and hear some fun stories about the Samurai. This program can be adjusted to fit your schedule. Suggested length: 20-30 min.Cost: $2 per adult with a minimum total admission of $35.

A Taste of SplendorLife’s too short to miss an opportunity of awe and beauty. You’ll do just that in A Taste of Splendor. As you wander through the magnificent Asian Gallery and the Montgomery Gallery with its changing exhibit, you’ll be served ap-petizers and fine wine produced in Coshocton County. This program can be adjusted to fit your schedule. Suggested length: 20-40 min.Cost: $9 per adult with a minimum of fifteen in group.
