INTRODUCTIONTheCountyHealthRankings&Roadmapsprogramhelpscommunitiesidentifyandimplementsolutionsthatmakeiteasierforpeopletobehealthyintheirhomes,schools,workplaces,andneighborhoods.TheRobertWoodJohnsonFoundation(RWJF)collaborateswiththeUniversityofWisconsinPopulationHealthInstitute(UWPHI)tobringthisprogramtocities,counties,andstatesacrossthenation.Rankingthehealthofnearlyeverycountyinthenation,theCountyHealthRankingsillustratewhatweknowwhenitcomestowhatismakingpeoplesickorhealthy.TheRoadmapstoHealthandRWJFCultureofHealthPrizeshowwhatwecandotocreatehealthierplacestolive,learn,work,andplay.
WHATARETHECOUNTYHEALTHRANKINGS?Publishedonlineatcountyhealthrankings.org,theRankingshelpcountiesunderstandwhatinfluenceshowhealthyresidentsareandhowlongtheywilllive.TheRankingsareuniqueintheirabilitytomeasurethecurrentoverallhealthofeachcountyinall50states.Theyalsolookatavarietyofmeasuresthataffectthefuturehealthofcommunities,suchashighschoolgraduationrates,accesstohealthyfoods,ratesofsmoking,obesity,andteenbirths.CommunitiesusetheRankingstoidentifyandgarnersupportforlocalhealthimprovementinitiativesamonggovernmentagencies,healthcareproviders,communityorganizations,businessleaders,policymakers,andthepublic.
