WHAT IS THEFROSTY MUG? “The Frosty Mug” refers to the Gryphons’ annual men’s varsity hockey game which is played at the Sleeman Centre on a Friday night in mid-January. This annual event has been labelled the Gryphon Winter Homecoming. It is a chance for alumni, corporate partners, faculty, staff and families to re-connect with the University of Guelph.
Thanks to the Junior Gryphons partnership that has been developed over the last few years with the Guelph Minor Hockey Association (GMHA), Guelph Girls Hockey Association (GGHA) and Guelph Minor Football Association (GMFA), “The Frosty Mug” also serves as another opportunity to provide a limited number of free tickets to our Junior Gryphons who get to experience an exciting brand of hockey while enjoying the excitement of a University event.
With over 30 former CHL (OHL, WHL & QMJHL) players in the line-up between the two competing teams, the level of hockey produced by these student-athletes is second-to-none in the area.
Taking our games off campus and into the community is an important step in helping to further cultivate the connection between the University community and the City of Guelph community. Many of the Gryphons’ Fall sports teams are now using “The Frosty Mug” as a recruiting tool, inviting prospective student-athletes to view first-hand the beauty of our city and the supportive nature of both the community and student-body.
DON’T FORGET TO USE THE HASHTAGS #FROSTYMUG & #GRYPHONPRIDE!
