Your little squirts will enjoy our fun-filled camp for budding scientists interested in the field of ickyology, better known as invertebrate zoology. Theyll explore different marine habitats, discover some of the shelly, fishy, crusty, squishy and
scummy critters that live there, and learn about environmental issues that are impacting them - including the invasion of sea squirts!
Send your young adventurers on an exciting Sea Safari where they will discover the big game of our local marine environment. Theyll hunt for wild
animals that survive in our coastal habitats and find out how environmental issues are impacting them - all while learning about the field of vertebrate
zoology. At weeks end theyll document their safari observations in a photojournal presentation. Dont forget your passport!

Hey Sea Chums - take the bait and get hooked on all things fishy! Explore the different habitats where
fish live and find out how their needs are met. Discover how the saltmarsh serves as a fish nursery and learn about life cycles. Monitor
weather patterns and research how they impact seasonal fish migrations. Investigate the differences
between fresh-water and salt-water fish and learn about buoyancy. Compare boney-fish to
cartilaginous fish (a big word for SHARK) in our anatomy lab. Discover the importance of yucky
fish slime during a catch and release session at the dock. Learn how even a kid like you can help
support sustainable fisheries

Take a wild ride with MarineQuest and discover the migratory
species that cruise our coast. Track the movements of turtles, sharks, whales and dolphins as they travel
our shores. Learn how scientists use tagging, telemetry and
photo-identification to document different migratory species in our coastal waters. Experiment with
ocean currents and barrier island movement. Experiment with using a compass and drawing a map. By the end of the week youll be a certified
Coastal Cruiser, too.

Learn about the impacts of ocean acidification on creatures such as Sea Angels. Search for angel wing seashells on local beaches. Study some of your favorite cherubs, baby sea turtles. Calling all Super Heroes! Our coastal marine habitats need your help. The Marsh Marauder is
filling in our wetlands. The Beach Blaster is eroding our shoreline. And the Foul Fiend is polluting our
waterways. Whats a threatened or endangered species to do? Join the CEPA (Coastal
Environmental Protection Agency) and learn how you can use your super powers to help defeat the
Ten Most Wanted Villains of our marine environment.

Hey, Sea Mates get ready to journey through time and space as we analyze how the forces of nature have created the coastal habitats we see today. You
and your mates will use the tools of meteorologists, oceanographers and paleontologists to explore our coastline and document how it has changed over
time. Investigate the effects of the Sun and Moon on ocean water movement and weather. Discover how water, wind and waves change our landscape.
Examine fossils and cores to find out what they can tell us about past environmental conditions. Identify adaptations that helped some of our key species survive coastal changes and learn how climate change is challenging their future. Along the way, you will solve some history mysteries like, How
did the seashell get inside a mountain? and Where did the barrier island go?

Coast TrekAges 10 - 12
Join MarineQuest as we travel back in time to the age of giant prehistoric sharks and discover how North Carolinas coast has
changed over the years. While time traveling through our coastal habitats back to the future, Trekkies will use the tools of
oceanography, meteorology and paleontology to experience first-hand how hurricanes and other forces of nature have
created the coastline that we see today. Discover some of the key marine
organisms inhabiting our coastal waters and learn about the importance of conserving
our coastline for sustainable fisheries.

Join MarineQuest as we explore the exciting fields of marine technology and coastal environmental engineering. Tour the Battleship North Carolina with
marine engineers, and discover why gyroscopes are necessary on a ship. Learn how the Army Corps of Engineers help to create artifical reefs out of sunken
ships. Assemble and operate working ROVs to explore under water. Engineer a simple hydrophone to listen to the sounds of the sea. Travel by boat to an
undeveloped barrier island and learn how scientists use global satellite positioning (GPS) to track ocean animals. Investigate the effectiveness of natural and artificial barriers that engineers use to protect our coastlines.
Research the pros and cons of coastal wind energy while building a working wind turbine. This camp is designed to engineer ocean tech fun!

Sea Sport Science OlympiadAges 11 - 14
Spend a week diving into ocean sports and preparing for the upcoming Science Olympiad season. Snorkel, surf, kayak and boogie board your way
to scientific principles that can help you successfully compete in Olympiad events such as bridges, dynamic planet, meteorology, fossils, road
scholar and crave the wave. Each morning you will be out in the field using sea sports to gain information that can help you with that days specific event. Afternoons will be devoted to building, practicing and competing.
This camp is sure to be a gold medal winner!

Spend a week at Ocean Lab immersing yourself in the fantastic field of marine biology. Explore the
biodiversity of the ocean, from the tiniest microbes to the largest whale, and discover some of the key
species inhabiting our coastal waters, including sharks, sea turtles, whales and local fishes. Learn
about conservation efforts focused on key species. Investigate the important role that ocean
chemistry, geology and physics play in supporting marine life while conducting field studies in that
great big outdoor lab we call an ocean.

Get stoked for a swell week of learning the science behind surfing while you rip it up on the
big blue ocean with MarineQuests dynamic program Surf-n-Science Groms. This week long
surfing intensive program has paired surfing with marine science to provide young marine
enthusiasts the opportunity to develop surfing skills while gaining a real education in modern marine science. Learn how marine science has
inspired the way surfing has developed into the amazing sport it is today. Explore ocean physics
and board design, create your own surf art project, and compete in a MarineQuest beginners surfing contest. Familiarize yourself with surfing and paddleboarding equipment, techniques, and safety while gaining the skills needed to become
a lifelong surfer. You will leave Surf-n-Science Groms with a surfers tan, a scientists brain, and a
smile on your face!

blisters? Why are corals dissolving? Experiment with analytical techniques that forensic chemists use to solve these kinds of mysteries. Learn how chemicals cycle through our atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere to impact life in the ocean.

Dive into the world beneath the sea with MarineQuests deeply rewarding Dive Hawks program. This week long dive intensive marine science
experience will provide serious teen marine enthusiasts with an opportunity to earn their open water dive certification with which they will
explore the oceans amazing aquatic life, beautiful artificial reefs and historical ship wrecks. Learn how SCUBA has changed the way marine scientists study the ocean through underwater research techniques. Explore the careers of an underwater archeologist, media diver, and scientific diver. Familiarize yourself with SCUBA equipment, diving
techniques, and dive safety while gaining the skills needed to become a confident diver. Dive Hawks is more than just a way to get SCUBA certified,
it is an opportunity to open your eyes to new depths in modern marine science!

Digital Underwater Photographer! While diving into this exciting underwater world
professional dive instructors will work with you to improve your buoyancy and navigation skills as
you set off to complete an underwater exploration project using digital photography. Whether you are completing a photo journal of
local marine life or doing a photo documentation of local shipwrecks, your chosen project will provide you with the opportunity to think,
observe and document like a real marine scientist. Learn editing techniques. All Sea Shooters will
exhibit their final projects at the end of the week as they share their new discoveries.

cruise, operating an ROV, investigating morphological and behavioral adaptations in
marine life, and exploring Discover Scuba Diving. Did you know female faculty, associates, and students at UNCW are actively conducting
research on topics such as marine mammals, sea turtles, corals, antarctic penguins, sharks, and moreand include an original member of the all-woman aquanauts team who served on the

The ocean is the largest unexplored place on Earthless than 5% of it has been explored. The next generation of explorers and researchers will find great
opportunities for discovery, innovation, and investigation. You can begin your journey to become one of these explorers with Sea LAB. Review the
achievements of early explorers and learn how they changed the way we explore the marine environment. Investigate the fields of marine technology
and engineering during a research cruise. Study morphological adaptations of the marine specimens you collect. Use technology to visualize the ocean floor and analyze the water column. career options at our program designed to let you step into the swim fins of different types of marine scientists. Gain first-hand experience using a
variety of field equipment to collect data and monitor the marine environment. Participate in a full day research cruise to collect specimens
and learn how to use aboard ship instruments. Try out diving by participating in a PADI Discover SCUBA diving course - no prior experience necessary. Discover how underwater remotely operated vehicles support
ocean exploration and try your hand at flying our Video Ray. Youll be amazed by
the career options marine science has for you!

Oceans-17 provides serious marine science enthusiasts with the chance to conduct lab and field based experimental research and participate in community service projects that benefit our marine environment. In
addition to terrestrial and wetland studies, students will dive into the ocean and learn
the ins and outs of scientific SCUBA in either an open water diver or advanced open water diver certification course.
Students will use these new skills to collect and interpret data that supports current
research being conducted by scientists at UNCW. In between their research students
will enjoy kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding, boating, snorkeling and more!
