Proposed Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) changes in overtime rules

• The Department of Labor (DOL) has proposed to update the regulations governing which “executive, administrative, and professional employees (white collar workers)” are entitled to overtime pay protections.

• As proposed, the salary threshold would be raised from $455 a week (the equivalent of $23,660 a year) to about $970 a week ($50,440 a year) in 2016. DOL has not offered any specific proposals to modify the standard duties tests, only the increase in the salary threshold.

• HR estimates that approximately 2,600 UGA exempt staff will be impacted by the proposed rule change.
